I wonder if they'll be ready to show more gameplay in various maps/eras by E3? I guess the concept art is meant to be a tease, but it gives off the vibe that they're not very far into production on those areas.

Wait, are you getting those vibes because they only showed concept art?

Yea we're most likely getting a full gameplay reveal at their E3 conference. There's going to be a beta at some point and we'll get more footage at Sony's E3 Presser. Not to mention we'll get a trickle of gameplay and info in the lead up to launch.

This was just their official reveal. First phase of marketing.

Wait wat? Concept art is just meant to tease what they have in store. They'll show us the maps when they show us the gameplay.

Keep in mind it took a while last year before EA showed any BF1 maps beside Quintens Scar and Sinai Desert. That didn't mean they hadn't finished any other maps.

Some new details
MP
No more pickups, but more opportunities for more 'skilled' players to become heros. Though everyone would get a chance.

No vehicle pickups!

Gunplay changed towards Battlefield style. Slightly more difficult to learn.

ADS and hip fire will be effected now unlike BF1.

No squad system, but a new cool system for parties.

Heros will have a rock, paper, scissor system. Depending on the situation one maybe weaker/stronger.

Attachments for weapons.

Rolling will return.

Offline SP will be substantially different from MP/SP elements.
Terrible. It's Killzone 2 all over again. Battlefront, like Killzone 2, had unique systems inside the genre. Now they changing everything to please the "every shooter should play exactly the same"-crowd and they will lose their uniqueness ... Hype deflated :(

if it was in a state that they could only show concept art because they were too early in development then the game would not be coming out this year maybe not even next they just arnt showing any game play until their stage show at e3 to make it something so they can say its world exclusive footage

No pickups is huge. That shit was so dumb. I'm not worried about the "lack of accuracy" or whatever, most guns in Battlefield games are perfectly accurate even with "recoil". Even Battlefield 1 and those guns are old as shit.

Maybe I didn't word that right. But it would have been nice to see a comparison between the concept art and a screenshot of that same map from the actual game. It didn't even have to be moving footage.

I can't find the source, but via the Battlefront subreddit, one of the devs said on Twitter the reason no clone troopers were in the trailer is because they're still working on their models. No idea what that means for maps or other PT era content, but clones are definitely early in development (in terms of art assets, at least).

I wouldn't be surprised if they prioritized the OT and ST eras, since those assets are used in the campaign. PT era content is multiplayer only, so they can delay that stuff until the multiplayer reveal at E3.

EDIT: Got it: https://mobile.twitter.com/DICE_FireWall/status/853454124054085632

Any word on if additional VR missions would be included for PSVR owners?? That single mission added last year was seriously awesome. I would love to play a full campaign like that.

A full VR Star Wars game could be amazing. I hope we actually see a full game one day rather than these side mission add ons.

Seems like the Titanfall 2 model of paid cosmetic stuff supporting free maps.

This is what I got as well.

AFAIK, they said they don't want split the player base again. As long as the maps are free, I won't mind a season pass with other content - Skins, weapons, heroes, etc.

They can lock skins or other cosmetic content behind a paywall, but I'd rather they not lock weapons or heroes behind one.

The new details for multiplayer have completely deflated me. I hope the campaign will be really great, like Titanfall 2 great, because I'll be waiting until $20 otherwise.

And I was on board with Battlefront based on the beta. None of this sniper class crap that ruined every other multiplayer shooter (although it comes up in Battlefront, but it's not nearly as bad). A lot of Battlefront matches turn into "everyone run to where the enemies are over and over again" but I prefer that to Battlefield 3/4/1 where "I can't find anyone...oh oops I'm dead."

It doesn't seem like the Specialist class is a dedicated sniper class. The weapon they get with the Deluxe Edition preorder is a blaster rifle with a scope modification. I doubt we will see dedicated sniper rifles as a viable playstyle.

Not sure about this personally. More modifications and abilities would most likely translate in more variety and tools for each player.

Not really, if BF4 is anything to go by all it does is ruins the uniqueness of each weapon since everyone ends up putting the same sights and whatnot on every weapon and then weapons start to blend together. One of the things BF1 (both battlefield and battlefront ;) ) did right.

However I was going in to this reveal cautiously pessimistic after Battlefront 1 came out (and I tried all the DLC too) and I really didn't like it and Battlefield 1 is getting made worse by the minute by DICE... buuuut the initial reveal sounded good to me. A singleplayer campaign in a relatively unexplored time period focusing on a villain over 30 years not made by DICE? Good. No more hero and vehicle pickups? Good. All eras? Good. No season pass? Good.

Then of course DICE had to kick me in the gut.

- attachments
- ability modifiers, epic abilities and upgrades or whatever and what they are in general
- gunplay being effected by movement (the one thing that pretty much everyone can agree that they nailed in the 1st one and they fuck it up)
- classes across factions being identical
- still no landing and taking off in vehicles and instead using the stupid modern battlefield system
- no hints at reworking space gameplay

Them stressing lots of unlocks and gameplay customization while seemingly getting rid of the season pass model also has me worried. I played quite a bit of the first/third one and still didn't even unlock every weapon or gadget, let alone the direct upgrades to gadgets and that was with the season pass. I only dread how long it'll take to unlock things here.

I know I was very vocal against the previous DICE battlefront but with the initial trailer they seemed to have learned from their mistakes. Now it seems they may actually go backwards from the last game, christ.

I sure hope not. It was one of the refreshing things in Battlefront. CoD and especially Battlefield can be awful with that shit.

Didn't people complain about 2015 Battlefront not playing like Battlefield? Now 2017 Battlefront 2 does and I guess people want it to play like 2015 Battlefront.

Can't please everyone I guess.

The problem with 2015 Battlefront was never ever the gunplay and anyone who said it was either never played the previous Battlefronts or never played a Battlefield game. Or just didn't like Battlefront as a series and wanted it to be something it wasn't.

Why though? Battlefront 2 could really benefit from a more skill based gameplay even if it compares to the likes of other shooters like Battlefield.

Having such a low skill ceiling and lack of progression like the first one makes the gameplay really plain and boring after a while and then the player base just starts dropping and that is something that really deflates anyone's hype and faith in a game.

Because the other battlefront games never had movement effecting recoil iirc and that being linked to skill is dumb. Plenty of shooters with a high skill ceiling that have little to no recoil/ads.

We can only hope that they keep it somewhere in the middle where the extra mobility of Hipfiring makes it a viable alternative to the additional accuracy of ADSing. If it's like most modern shooters where Hipfiring is only an in your face last resort it'll suck.

They said they wanted to add more depth but also to keep it accessible to newcomers so I'm expecting something in the middle.
Yeah but they can add plenty of depth to the game without messing with the basic shooting mechanics. Oh well, at least without a season pass hopefully they can balance abilities and weapons better.

It's really a shame. I don't understand why some equate ADS with skill, when really all ADS does is limit your mobility. That doesn't require skill it just makes it more tedious, especially in a Star Wars game.

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if the TTK is faster too.

Then with dedicated snipers or not we'll get camp city.

Dice have always been good with shooting mechanics. Battlefield1s shooting is perfect. Dumbing a game down for the kids is never a good idea.

People are always gonna be more likely play good games that are easy to pick up but hard to master than a game thats simplistic with no dept. Thats exactly battlefront 1 was and most people dropped it real fast.

Oh I better stop playing DOOM and Quake since having no movement effecting recoil means it's a dumb baby game for kids lol

Look I'm aware of BF1's issues and I've written plenty of lists or rants about them. The way recoil works wasn't one of them.

I never said ADS or recoil is necessarily linked to skill but you can't argue that BF2015 felt really flat in terms of gameplay and skill, it became incredibly boring and plain to play after a while.

Not exactly sure how they could increase the skill ceiling in this game though, seems like devs aren't quite sure about it either as like you've said ADS and recoil are not necessarily linked to skill, hell even CS and Overwatch which are highly skilled games don't even have this mechanic but I guess for the devs that's one way to increase it as it makes the game harder?

Either way, I really don't care how they do it, as long as it's less arcady than the first one and BF1 for that matter and more competitive I'm all down for it, if it keeps the player base coming back instead of dropping it's good in my book.

The people who were still playing a few weeks after launch didn't drop it en masse because of the lack of recoil lol. It was generally just poor map design, poor gadget balance/design and questionable objective modes.

And I mean you're looking at the wrong series if you want a game that's less arcadey than Battlefield 1. That's not a DICE problem or a player base problem.

Edit: also you keep citing the player base dropping as some damning statistic when pretty much every mp player base drops over time.

Doom and Quake are from a different era altogether. Thats how everything played then. gaming was in its infancy. Gameplay has evolved since then.

If I wanted to play Battlefield and get slaughtered again and again and again without ever getting good, I'd play Battlefield. Why can't we have a more casual shooter for people that are old and sucky like me?

Better tell that to DOOM 2016 and Overwatch then huh, both with plenty of copies sold and great review scores and fan impressions from just last year :)

2 out of the gaf goty top 3 too.
