poor decisions on both Fyfe and Hodge.

Fyfe may not have had intent, but there was head high contact from recklessness. A fine at least. Given his record of being reported for similar contact and recklessness, he should have had a week or two. Funny how he got off and then is somehow injured for the last couple of games...something smells fishy to me...like the rumour of Franklin being suspended for drug use a couple years back but it was written down as a hamstring injury....

Hodge showed intent to hit Wingard head high. Even if Wingard went on to play, the incident itself was bannable.

It didn't occur to me at first until it was mentioned but Hodge, without his bad record, would have only gotten given the 1 week (down from 2). Ridiculous to say the least.
It's essentially a rest for finals.

A few of the decisions last couple weeks have been really soft imo.

Nah, fyfe' form has dropped off a cliff due to this niggle. Tbh I'm surprised he wasn't rested earlier.

As with most Friday games I'm going to miss the majority of it. I'll be lucky to see the last few minutes this week...
Think Collingwood will give us more than a run for our money but hoping for a good game at the very least.
I mostly hope Menzel gets through unscathed and gives us a highlight or two.

Pies played tonight like they did for the first half of the year. Signs are good for future years with this team but it's still disappointing they couldn't have played 2 or 3 more games like this in the second half of the year.

Even though it's against poor opposition it looks like we're hitting some form heading into the finals. Just need Buddy to have a good game next week and I'll be excited.

Yeah had some good patches in today's game. Young players seem to be getting better, Jones could be a reasonable player. Mitchell good too. Just worried about our pace.

Mini-Jack has added some pace and a fully fit Rohan will help us on that front.

It's annoying to not have any clue whether we're in good form or not until week one of the finals because of the last four rounds of the season being against lesser opposition.

Some interesting matches in the end, good to see Melbourne ending up with 7 wins.

Congrats to Andiie for winning the tipping competition for 2015.

What are poeple thinking for the prize? Steam Wallet? XB/PS gift card? JB gift card?

I'll give him my last Whopper voucher :p

Well done to Andiie. A commanding performance this year. I'll get you next year.

As for the prize, who do we send money to? Should we just send it straight to Andiie via paypal?

I won? I was getting ready to duke it out with Grassy in the finals. ;) Wasn't sure if they were included or not.

It certainly wasn't easy. A few of the tippers kept plenty of pressure on the entire season. Leading the whole time probably made it harder tbh.

A few things worth acknowledging:
AnkhWeasel spent 18 of the 23 rounds 2nd. A great effort!
Grassy's 3 whoppers. jambo with 2? If you got one at all pat yourself on the back because I got squat. :(
nbsportsfan could have gone back to back. Didn't tip in Round 7 where I picked up 4 tips on them which ended up being the end margin.
Jables Swan had the lowest margin.

Thanks to everyone who entered.

As for the prize, I'd be happy with anything even just a congrats.
If you'd prefer an actual prize, paypal or any of jambo's suggestions is fine, just message me whenever for the relevant info.

$10 each via PayPal might work well.

Not too much of a burden for tippers, but adds up to a nice little prize.

Thoughts?

Why doesn't the tipping go into the finals?

I went back and checked, the last 3 years it looks like we've called it at the end of the home and away season rather than go into the finals. I think the comp is set up for finals (it seems like you might be able to decide the end round) but it's a less traditional way to tip so I wonder if people were expecting it to end at Round 23 and didn't know it went on or they wanted it to end.
I think if we could get admin rights for the comp we'd most likely change it to end sooner.

I'm not really that fussed to do it either way tbh.

Nah you won, every tipping comp I've been in ends at the last round of the home and away season. Well done.
If only I hadn't picked Carlton to beat Hawthorn by 76 points...:p

I still have my last Whopper voucher if someone wants to claim it(Jables?), send me a PM with your email and I'll flick the PDF through. It expires on the 13th of September.

Yeah tipping is always just the normal season, no finals.

Thanks for the offer Grassy. I won't make it to HJ before the 13th so I won't grab it.

So Sydney decided to play Franklin last week against doctor's advice.

What was that Legend was saying all last year about players' welfare being an important consideration? Interested to see what the difference here is.

He can't see past club bias.
I reckon he'll say that the club did no wrong as their doctor okayed it

Let's not go too hard on the offensive, as you were defending a near miss of a very serious concussion incident scant weeks ago.

If we're going to be serious about it, playing people post-seizure, or post-concussion, or causing it, or injecting with whatever cocktails of unknown/undocumented chemicals, then there needs to be a uniform WHS approach to it. Same as in any other industry where serious injuries (not talking about ACL joints etc) or chemical exposure (e.g. asbestos, solvents) are a risk.

I'd have said the same comments regardless of the team. I like to think I'm not blinded by club loyalty.

It is a bit strange that the AFL can say mandatory time out of the game for a concussion but if a guy has a fit the day before the game he is free to play. I don't know how all this medical stuff works in regards to the brain but I'd be listening to the doctors on it

......que?

You went from explaining how you have the right to boo Adam Goodes because apparently he's an awful person to defending Hodge drink driving.

Anyway, the Buddy thing is interesting. I'm not going to sit here and talk like I know a single thing about epilepsy. I have read people on line who are epileptic say that it varies person to person it's not unusual that Buddy would have been fine to play. That seems to be backed up this page which says there's no hard and fast rule: https://www.epilepsy.org.au/living_with_epilepsy/lifestyle_issues/sports_and_activities#returning

So from that information it's fairly silly to second guess the doctor who's looked after Buddy for the last two years and would know his condition better than anyone, including the hospital doctors who treated him.

Anyway, it's a weird discussion because it seemingly has nothing at all to do with why he's not playing.

zzz, has it rained at all? I was expecting it to downpour the entire match the way people were carrying on...
I thought if West Coast could win this game they'd be a very big chance to go all the way because of the way the games would then fall in their favor.

That depends on what those doctors in the hospital specialise in. Its a bit of a stretch to rule it out as being better or not without any evidence beyond public domain.

So there is a very very good chance the Grand Final is going to be West Coast vs Dockers now :O

I'm glad I'm going on Holiday to Japan on the 30th, I so do not want to be in Perth while this is all going down. Eagles and Dockers fans are already at each other with knives most weeks, if its between both teams and a Grand Final, its going to be a very dirty week over here.

Freo dodged a bullet with the Swans, and they will have to up their goal scoring if the Hawks see them in two weeks. The Eagles were awesome, deserved the win last night, had us Hawks on the back foot from the get go. I do reckon that they should not have slowed in the last and really crushed the Hawk's spirit.

Umpires were lousy for all teams. Hoping tonight with the Dogs / Crows is better.

Still predicting it's going to be a Hawks / Eagles Grand Final.

Oh... And GO HAWKS!

I reckon it will be hilarious to hear all the WA locals complain about

a) Victorian conspiracies
b) plane flight ticket costs skyrocketing
c) Why no local final
d) Secession
e) Who gets subiaco for the fans day/commiseration day afterwards
