Hi fi rush was played on my daughters account as we did it together. This is just me blasting it every now and again on my account, lol.

I've not even completed it on mine yet.

Also, he denied Starfield is porting over (while others double down) so that leaves Indy. I think they might do a day and date test case with indiana jones.

Wouldn’t a game like Grounded make more sense?
Multiplayer, cute and well received enough to sell quite decently on either platform.

All these pro-Xbox 'experts' are getting the criticism they deserve. This is why Jezz almost cried when Rand jokingly said it was his fault and went hiding before the nuke is dropped.

What they have done is gaslight the Xbox fanbase, parroting Microsoft's talking points: everything is A-okay. Microsoft's (MS's) infrastructure and war chest make them unstoppable; Sony is in serious trouble. Blah, blah, blah, blah...

Every decision Microsoft makes is just part of the big scheme, a 4D chess strategy... Let them cook. Well, the only thing that was cooked is Xbox's reputation

To be fair, by this time last year tons of GAF members were claiming the activision purchase was part of a grand plan to force Sony out of the console market and monopolize all major publishers.

Kinda weird seeing people throw rocks from glass houses

He's right though, I disliked HiFi Rush and yet have to play more of Pentiment, but those seem to be games that received critics and players good feedbacks but sadly just a few people played those, bringing those games to different systems is a great things.

Great for PS5 players who get new good games, great for MS who can say "look our studios can produce good things", good for the devs because they dev games so they can be played and enjoyed... I don't see anything wrong here.

Yeah, the "monopoly argument".
The "Consolidation is bad" just because MS is doing it
The buying publishers vs studios
Sony´s way is the honorable way to be competitive...etcetera
all was a shitshow of fanboyism

What I am talking about is the lack of analysis from these experts who have some aura of authority...."they know what they are talking about"

Definitely looking forward to checking out Sea of Thieves with the kids tbf, I've 4 playstations knocking around the house and I've always wanted to try this game as a coop

That's not what they said. The only claim in that tweet is false. A superniche Pentiment will bring no one to Xbox, but it will raise expectation of more future Xbox games going multiplat among core gamers.

Because sorry to be harsh:
1) No one wants Grounded if its not on gamepass so what revenue they make from it will be negligible. Why? Even sony exclusives Sackboy and Ratchet and Clank failed to light the charts on fire. Sony fans aged up basically.

and

2) If its another Obsidian game, might as well bring Avowed because of (1)

3) They need to see if they can actually sell and sell well on ps5. And for that they need data. Heres Sea of Thieves our gaas game. Heres Hi Fi Rush our most critically acclaimed game. Heres Pentiment our low profile indie darling. Heres Indiana Jones / Hellblade 2/ Avowed our day and date release on xbox and ps5.

Hi-fi Rush and Pentiment are actually two of the games I would give a shot from the Xbox catalog. The price has to be right though. I’m not sure what these games retailed for but they both seemed like small experiences.

I’m thinking I would give Hi-fi Rush a try for around $20 and Pentiment for $10.

Ironically enough, MS would benefit from financial perspective in releasing titles like Starfield titles on PS5 more than the smaller games.

Xbox audience can’t support modern AAA dev costs as it just can’t recoup the dev and there aren’t enough GamePass users to subsidize it. There is still Steam as a wild card, but even that may not be enough to offset $300mil dev and marketing budgets.

On the other hand releasing these sorts of titles on PS5 could damage the brand from perspective of “Why should I buy an Xbox” side.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what Microsoft and its Gaming side management do over this year. IMO, whatever occurs Thursday, MS is going to be watching for reactions, sales, etc and responding pretty quickly.

Also, I wonder if adorably digital XSX replacement is still going forward.

Most estimates for Grounded puts it around 2 million units sold on Steam alone. Way more than HiFi Rush or Pentiment. Comparing it Sackboy is frankly hilarious. On Steam, It’s outsold Returnal, Ratchet and Sackboy by multiples.

Has nothing to do with gamers aging up, since even Ratchet was relatively successful on PS5.

And destroy any hope of surviving as a console maker, as well as torpedoing their rental service which is reliant on Xbox consoles.

If need be, yes. Absolutely. They don't have much choice, do they? Game Pass is slagging. Console sales have negative growth for the second straight gen. Why would they sacrifice game sales for failing strategies?

Oh yes my bad, well I agree it won't bring people to Xbox. But it'll bring money to Microsoft, and probably more than what (for exemple) an Xbox Series S + 3 month of Gamepass to finish Pentiment and HiFi rush would bring them. Those games at full price or even with 20% off on PS5 will bring way more money.

These people are delusional, this is the exact line of thought about how PC specific players will play God of War and then run out to buy a Playstation console to play the sequel. That is not the intention of these companies when making these decisions so I don't know why that is always the expectation from these fanboys.

That "force Sony of the console market" was due to leaked internal emails from Matt Booty saying Microsoft had an opportunity to spend Sony out of business back in 2019. Let's not point fingers at GAF members for things that came directly from Microsoft.

I think these are smart moves for the Microsoft gaming business, but how in the world would this bring more players to Xbox?

Because of hope and not giving up on a goal. Did Nintendo abandon ship after the Gamecube and Wii U failures? Starfield remains an important exclusive not just for this generation but next generation where it will be able to run at 4K 60fps and full of mods.

Did you know this rerelease sold more than it's original?

Microsoft bringing their games to other platforms without gamepass would be pretty fucking funny.

Yeah, I agree, but if this was all just about games like Ori then they could have just thrown up a blog post......like they did with Ori. Obviously there is a lot more to this and yeah, games like Starfield are on the table. Tom Warren said he knows one big game factually going to PlayStation.
Err you realize that one big game is Pentiment right?

Starfield ain't Zelda. Nintendo rebounded from Gamecube with Wii. Nintendo also rebounded from Wii U with Switch. If Microsoft had rebounded from Xbox One with Xbox Series then we would not be having this conversation, but here we are.

I hear you on hope and not giving up, but ultimately it isn't up to Phil Spencer. And this ain't even about Xbox fans either. This is up to Satya Nadella and he answers only to Microsoft shareholders. That's why this is a business update.

Err you realize that one big game is Pentiment right?

According to? Or is that a joke?

Nevermind.....you had me there for a second. lol

I don’t know why MS is ripping off the bandaid slowly when we know they are eventually going to arrive at the same position they arrived at with porting games to PC years ago. Eventually games will release day and date on PlayStation and Switch consoles. They are just lubing their fans and taking it slowly before they start thrusting lol. We are eventually going to see them go full third party because they’ve done this before with porting their games to PC.

I honestly don’t know why they can’t just announce these games already. Why the coyness and dragging out announcements? Makes zero sense and will only make the meltdowns worse when fans start seeing Xbox games on rival platforms.

One thing I don't understand is when people think Microsoft is gonna suddenly start a shell game where *some* former exclusives are gonna be released on other platforms, and some aren't, and average consumers will put in the work to find out which is which.

This completely ignores the idea that the console is undesirable even when all of these things were exclusive, they foreclosed a fucking Todd Howard game for God's sake and customers didn't come in droves. What makes people think this idea of selectively un-exclusiving games is gonna make people buy an Xbox instead?

Timed exclusivity doesn't matter either, I've been a proponent for alternative game stores on PC and even a click is too much for a ton of consumers to switch, so what makes it suddenly conceivable that consumers will spend $300-500 to buy an Xbox plus either Gamepass or cost of games?

My money is on the slow frog boil approach. But you know that eventually that fucker will boil.

Their problems are too far gone imo. The brand has been thoroughly sullied and is firmly undesirable in the marketplace. Even %30-50 price cuts weren't enough to entice customers.
Yeah that's because you can't think 20 years into the future. MS needs to build their games for the day when consoles don't exist / platform apps start to appear on everyday devices. It doesn't matter if they sell 500 thousand or 5 consoles if their games are not popular enough to carry their app in the future they really loose all that invested money.

Much how Sony has put games like Spiderman and GOW on PC and hope people cant wait to play the newest version that's exclusive to PS in hopes people runs out and buys PS5

I've heard that theory before but don't think I buy it. Seems like something that comes from folks who are trying to rationalize Sony games on PC more than an actual strategy for Sony.

Agreed. I think the Sony strategy is, "let's release later on PC to sell to someone that will never buy a console" or "get people to double dip".

It just provides a second tailwind for additional sales of games. I don't think Sony expects diehard stalwarts to suddenly switch to console if they have historically been PC only

That's my thoughts as well. If it sounds like backward thinking then it usually is. Selling a game on console/system A to increase sales of console/system B is definitely backward thinking, imo.

Seriously. Tom Warren says he knows of one other big game coming to Playstation and then a day later releases this, saying Pentiment is coming. Pentiment is the one big game.

OMG wtffffffffffff it is a fake ? They really made this video seriously ? Who's the man on the video ? He is permabaned from giving any opinion about gaming (at least hardware) for his whole life ?

Afraid not, it is real. Stefan Etienne, was the fella. It was a huge meme when released and the Verge made it worse by disabling comments and voting and going after any YT'er who parodied it with strikes, which were dismissed because of fair use.

So he didn't just release this article that we all clicked on?

Tom Warren made it clear in the video that he was not at liberty to say what "big" game he was talking about. This article states clearly that his sources are pointing to Pentiment and Hi Fi Rush. So no, Pentiment is not the "big" game he was referring to.
