4ch: MS is going to announce $50 price reduction on both XSX/XSS tomorrow

How much loss can they take? If they dropped the consoles further and most people get gamepass instead of individual games they'll be hemorrhaging money like crazy.

Cheaper is always good news but this doesn't sound realistic.

Seems it would be petty and desperate, but could also be seen as just competition.

but who knows maybe this was all Phils plan.

If they were to even consider doing this, I suppose they can call it a $50 off flash sale price for the launch preorders. It doesn't have to be a full on "price cut"

Proof Phil cares about the gamers more than any other CEO ever ever in all of human history. Trust in Phil. He's been been just warming up and been hindered by Microsoft for the past 6 years and now is ready to go supernova.... 2 years from now, maybe. He just needs more time. Wait for E3.
More like proof that he doesn't care how much hardware they sell is pure BS.

Not happening but if so I just may get one just for the multiplats and since ps5 will be nowhere to be found

You new here? Lol
No, lol. It’s just really getting to me. I feel like the video game community used to be more of a united front. A good game meant a good game. It didn’t matter what system is was on. Now if a good game comes out instead of praising why it’s great people seem to use it as fuel to why their system/ecosystem is better. It’s just disappointing.
This generation playstation killed it with first parties, causing Microsoft to heavily invest in new studios to try and compete. Xbox came out with gamepass, which probably heavily influenced Sony’s decision for the criterion collection of playstation games coming to Playstation +.

Rumour that MS will reduce the price of their console: NeoGAF “Ha! Desperation!”

Rumour that Sony would reduce their price after the MS leak: NeoGAF “Yay Sony you’re a G!”

Stay charming, kids.

I hope they do cut the price, that would be amazing. And the salt... My god the salt.

Kinda like the goal post moving when Sony went even harder into cross gen than MS lol...was quite the spectacle.

The console wars are the best....

Microsoft has tons of money but do not think will give the xbone/games division the freedom of reduce 50.00 US more the console....

But if this happens think will be only on Series X not S.

Lets wait

Sounds like Michael Pacther with his predictions. Lol

In a periscope event just after Microsoft’s Xbox Series X showcase yesterday, industry figure Geoff Keighley talked with Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter and former Microsoft executive Peter Moore. In it, Pachter goes against the conventional wisdom that these consoles will both come in at $500. Xbox Series X, he says, will be $400. You can watch the whole show here.

“Microsoft’s being pretty smart about waiting Sony out here. From what I’ve seen, Sony’s going to have to charge $500 for their PS5, and Microsoft has a big balance sheet – if they want to cut the price by $100, just price below and subsidize the first ten million, they will.

“So, I think that they’re waiting to have Sony blink first, and then they’ll reveal the price and the launch date. It’s going to be holiday, so very likely sometime in November, very likely $400. And fans are going to get a lot from their $400.”

I'm on mobile, cannot quote properly.

Wouldn't make sense to do this. First batches will be sold out anyway... If you really want to hurt them, then reduce the price from January-March

I already have PS5 on pre-order, but if MS dropped the price by another $50 bucks that would definitely trigger an auto pre-order from me. Not because $50 dollars difference alone, but from what I have seen and heard so far. Xbox X series seem like better engineered piece of hardware.

I think it makes sense, if you drop it in January that looks a bit desperate. Drop it now and it pricks up the ears that creates more interest that will keep on rolling. Imagine a £200 S. It could turn it into a Wii type demand situation. Want another controller ? may as buy a S for another £150. Or it could just flop :)

They better cut it by $200 each just to sell 30% of PS5 overall sales.
I think maybe if it sold 30% of PS5 sales that maybe seen as pretty successful. 30 million subscribed to Gamepass or digital only games is nothing to sniff at.

Edit i was thinking S only.

That would cause issues. Do you remember what happened with the Xbox One launch? Because of Kinect, XboxOne was more eexpensive than PS4. Xbox eventually cut their price, but at that point it is too late and most casuals still assume XboxOne is more expensive. This despite the fact that Xbox One had been cheaper than an equivalent PS4 for years now. First impressions matter.

True, but I don't think there's a problem with current pricing as-is

I remember when they cut the price of the original Xbox not long after launch. You could pick 2 free games if you bought before the price drop.

I highly doubt this will come to pass, although they are essentially a trillion dollar company and can eat the cost if they are that willing. Chances are they will try to put more value by adding free games for the pre-order.

Its because of this "tomorrow never comes" I switched from xbox being my main platform to wholly PS next gen. Fed up of the evangelising BS

Yes, both GameCube and original Xbox had £50 knocked off just weeks before launch due to stuff competition. I think GameCube was literally like 10 days before release.

Can confirm. Microsoft knocked £100 off of their console a week after i bough it and they gave me a free pad and two free games in return

They're already taking a loss on these consoles. I don't see how an additional 50 price cut will benefit them, not even in the long run.

but i thought Microsoft said they don't care about how many boxes they sell, surely it looks like they do desperately care if they are planning to drop the prices even further than the announced ERPs.

Win-win for consumers if true, stop worrying about the wallets of billion dollar companies.
Fine. But I worry about my wallet. When a company gets less money from me than they’re anticipating they find other ways to get that money and those ways are usually worse.

You don't have to give in to those other ways though.

Since getting an X with gamepass, i haven't spent a single penny on games. I'll break the rule for BG3 and Div 3, the rest of the games can suck it.
