UPDATE
Now being rumoured to be dropping in the PS5 showcase (maybe as a teaser), which makses sense as Sqaure also have a showcase two days later at PAX

This will give an update on the currently announced games as well as reveal some of the upcoming projects for the PS5, one of which is rumored to be Final Fantasy XVI. To further add some support for the rumor, it was recently discovered that a Twitter account has been made for Final Fantasy XVI that is registered by an official Square Enix domain.

Shinji Hashimoto, who is a key figure for the series at Square Enix has recently retweeted the announcement of the PS5 showcase. He has a tendency to retweet such news if there is an announcement related to the projects that he handles at Square Enix.

Similar to the fable account dealio?

I counted the asterisks and was thrown off by an extra in the domain name. Turns out they use "square-enix" and not "squareenix" though :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:
What's the fa short for? It's followed by seven asterisks.

Could be anything - could be standard account, community manager name etc.

You understand that literally everyone can create an address on a domain beginning with an S?

Yes, that is why the title says 'looks to be.....' -the same criteria as used by the fable account when m********.com turned out to be microsoft.com. I suspect you are intelligent enough to understand the difference between making a little leap for some speculation as to making a statement of fact?

Can you make a twitter account with an email address that doesnt exist and without answering to the confirmation email? Maybe someone just made up some square enix email adress and called it a day.

I'm probably misremembering, but I believe there was an admin-verified person on the other site that said FFXVI was closer than most would expect, and they weren't sure why it wasn't included in the June PS5 show, as it was far enough along to be shown then.

I went back and found this, but I don't think this was the person. Might've been; not sure.

Either go full old school like Final Fantasy 4 or 9 Medieval

Or Something new.
I dont want something too technology insipired like FF 13. And I dont want a modern/future FF15 style either, I did like it but want something else.

Squeenix should study what made the best Final Fantasy games so good and then formulate a game as good if not better. FF13-15 was a joke.

IMO the highest points in the series has been (ranked in order of highest to lowest high):

Final Fantasy 10 / 10-2
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy 12
Final Fantasy 6

I sort of feel like Square Enix still hasn't nailed the perfect formula for these games, after this many iterations you'd think they'd have perfected it by now. Sometimes they seem to know what they're doing and other times their decision making seems questionable at best. At times it's like they get close to hitting on something great, but then they veer off course. I think we've seen instances of brilliance over the series running length, but it's very inconsistent.

Would be cool to see an ultra gritty version of Final Fantasy that tells a dark, personal storyline. I feel like that's where these games and Square in general excels at.

A winning formula for FF16 would be a solid character cast, a solid story with darker themes, and a solid combat system. No boy band tropes, none of that type of shit.

Lol if this board gets hyped for this after denouncing FF XV but soy facing off the FF VII reskin of the same game.

Announce staff first. If Hiroyuki Ito is director it's enough reason start soy facing.

Excited until you realize that:
  1. It's going to be sold in pieces. We'll be lucky if all of them are in video game form, and there are no movies, books, mobile crap and audio dramas.
  2. Before the remake of FF7 part 1 there haven't been a good single-player FF game since FF10.
  3. It'll take at least 3 years to be released, and it'll still be an unfinished game like most of the recent ones.

"PLEASE BE EXCITED"...

Now that trolls know that fans are looking out for these twitter emails, I won't be believing these registrations for a long time.

after XV i was very excited for the series (it was MAJOR issues but it was a step in the right direction). but now, after ffvii remake, i fear for it again.

im hoping for a game that is big, and beautiful and open like XV, but has the more solid feel of ffvii remake, but without all the things that made playing through ffvii remake infuriating (linearity, boring towns, filler side quests, blue arrows all over the place even when it very fucking obvious that the area i need to go... ugh, so immersion breaking... and so much more wrong with ffvii remake, i could go on all day.

i could go on even longer about XV problems, but at least XV felt like an adventure. they could have done so much more to make midgar feel big, open and make the game feel adventurous... ya know, like the RPGs squaresoft used to make? but its square enix and theyve let me down with just about every single game release since FFX (i didnt play XI or XIV)

i have almost no faith in squareenix anymore. they are just going to have to surprise me i guess

Use the best stuff from 14 and it could be amazing. Job system, gear, crafting etc. That sense of progression was nice.

Ideally Final Fantasy 16 would be 14 without having to pay a monthly subscription. Trial alone (even before they raised it to the first expansion) was one of my most enjoyable gaming experiences, ever.
