I have been threatening to quit gaming for a while here and I feel the same way tbh. I am tired of playing the same exact game we've been playing since 2005. I like that storytelling and graphics have improved. I loved different games like Death Stranding and what Capcom did with RE7, but overall gameplay has started to become very stale.
I was hoping to see some real innovation from devs this gen. Flying in Horizon has become this hilarious next gen thing when it was in GTA Vice City. Cutting down trees and grass catching fire was in Zelda BoTW, and we arent getting that in Horizon on PS5 in 2021. That's how low our expectations are, and they are still not being met.
Cory had talked about how they wanted kratos and Baldur to punch each other so hard that they land across midgard into mountains. But designing that on a console limited by the PS4 GPU and especially HDD streaming wouldve been impossible. Now 4 years later, they wont be able to achieve that vision. I dont even know how they would design something like it but thats the beauty of next gen games. For devs to do things beyond our imagination. i was imagining thor and kratos flying around migard and asgard battling each other in the skies. Now i have to imagine an arena fight thats been GoW's specialty since 2005.
Time to find another hobby.
Yeah, and this isn't dramatic gamer shit, there really should be a serious discussion about the progress made in gaming lately, and how big business is stifling it, and it doesn't help that titles that generally would move things forward...are either releasing once a decade or more now, or gone completely.
I had faith
Valve was that dev once: M.I.A, just released HL alyx but...still.
Irrational or Bioware: used to have some interesting chops: Pretty much M.I.A. and bioware is a shell of what it once was.
Rockstar is one of those devs: Still here, but scaring me with how they are being with GTA and releasing very little per decade
Naughty Dog: time for some new Ip's, but doesn't look like it's going down anytime soon.
bethesda: no faith in bethesda anymore
CDProjekt was actually still atleast trying to put something out that would wow us, they still want to push things....and would have continued to attempt to. but look how they were treated (I think it was a tad unfair IMO), they may not recover. I felt that was definitely one of the wrong devs to turn against like that for the sake of gaming right now, but people wanted to jump on the bandwagon. You kind of potentially killed one our good ones gamers. Hope it's worth it.
meanwhile, Ubisoft, From (sorry guys, they dont push anything), activision etc get to keep releasing the same shit unscathed. They should be getting what CDPR got IMO.
But hey, this is a hobby shared with a child audience aswell...and because of that, things like this will transpire.
