God of War Sequel and Gran Turismo 7 are Cross Generation Titles

What I want to know is why we are getting such diminishing returns in these games? For example. I can argue days gone in ps4 pro looks better than returnal built ground up on ps5, and it also runs at a higher resolution. Returnal is just running at 60fps.

I haven’t seen any generational leaps visually from ps4/pro other than FR and resolution.

8GB ram - 16GB
HDD - SSD
1.8 TF - 10.3 TF

idgi?
because returnal is pushing 60 fps lol thats why, thats what happens when ask for 60 fps all the time. unimpressive looking titles.

No, one company has a totally custom setup, the other is very off the shelf in their parts, api they use and even OS, and developer tools that literally are PC based.

Sony's setup for their skd's is different. So how they do things in designing is very different.
stop with "off the shelf" antics ...games will be held back (if ever) in the same exact way as a Xbox series x game have to run on Xbox one. Accept it instead of finding excuses for your company of the heart that make you look foolish

lol borderline on one of my last legs with games lately, not liking where I see things are going...
I have been threatening to quit gaming for a while here and I feel the same way tbh. I am tired of playing the same exact game we've been playing since 2005. I like that storytelling and graphics have improved. I loved different games like Death Stranding and what Capcom did with RE7, but overall gameplay has started to become very stale.

I was hoping to see some real innovation from devs this gen. Flying in Horizon has become this hilarious next gen thing when it was in GTA Vice City. Cutting down trees and grass catching fire was in Zelda BoTW, and we arent getting that in Horizon on PS5 in 2021. That's how low our expectations are, and they are still not being met.

Cory had talked about how they wanted kratos and Baldur to punch each other so hard that they land across midgard into mountains. But designing that on a console limited by the PS4 GPU and especially HDD streaming wouldve been impossible. Now 4 years later, they wont be able to achieve that vision. I dont even know how they would design something like it but thats the beauty of next gen games. For devs to do things beyond our imagination. i was imagining thor and kratos flying around migard and asgard battling each other in the skies. Now i have to imagine an arena fight thats been GoW's specialty since 2005.

Time to find another hobby.

Gran Turismo obviously. Back when they dropped the reveal, those who didn't figure out it would be essentially a re-skin of GT Sport with slightly higher poly environments and a bit of ray-tracing were setting themselves up for disappointment.

I even went into great detail at the time about how the cockpit looks practically identical to the ones in GT Sport, and that there is so much pop-in that it is definitely not a native PS5 title. And yet I bet it'll still end up getting delayed because Polyphony take fucking ages to put games out.

God of War? Meh seems like a bit of a waste, but there was a sizeable difference between GOW3 and GOW Ascension so we can only hope another one comes out that is PS5 only.

It's only year one guys. End of 2020 the PS5 came out. It's been 7 months since the PS5 came out and the only way to really get one now is on ebay or craigslist. The only solution is for Sony to sell them in store shelves. In 2022 the virus thing will be over and we will go back to normal life! So Sony better put the PS5 on store shelves next year! So Ragnarok and GT7 being PS4 and PS5 is really no problem at all. I don't see games getting any better than 4K anyway. PS6 will be a minor upgrade, just 10 or 12 cores, 16 GB of ram, and 1TB SSD. That's it. And so maybe $700 to $900.

To each his own. I paid 1800 for a 3090 just to play Cyberpunk 2077 at its highest setting. As a bonus, i'm able to play other games at extremely high fidelity. No regrets.
One day you'll be able to play the next GOW on PC at highest settings as well, should just wait till then if you care about performance that much.

Upgrading a PC is a much better investment then a PS5 so it's just a bad comparison to make.

So after all that concern and drama about Xbox supporting last gen until the end of this year, Sony might actually extend for one to two years beyond that? This thread should be a crow buffet.

I had a PC with a 3090, an alienware R12. I kept it 2 weeks and returned it. Does the super 4K graphics make it look great? Sure. But does it make the game stand out like woah! NO! Therefore waste of money and returned.

And to think that PlayStation fanboys crapped on Xbox for doing exactly that, yet somehow the crickets are going and nothing is being said. This is why there is still bias in the gaming community
If Xbox had a better showing for halo we would not be having this conversation.

Yeah, and this isn't dramatic gamer shit, there really should be a serious discussion about the progress made in gaming lately, and how big business is stifling it, and it doesn't help that titles that generally would move things forward...are either releasing once a decade or more now, or gone completely.

I had faith Valve was that dev once: M.I.A, just released HL alyx but...still.

Irrational or Bioware: used to have some interesting chops: Pretty much M.I.A. and bioware is a shell of what it once was.

Rockstar is one of those devs: Still here, but scaring me with how they are being with GTA and releasing very little per decade

Naughty Dog: time for some new Ip's, but doesn't look like it's going down anytime soon.

bethesda: no faith in bethesda anymore

CDProjekt was actually still atleast trying to put something out that would wow us, they still want to push things....and would have continued to attempt to. but look how they were treated (I think it was a tad unfair IMO), they may not recover. I felt that was definitely one of the wrong devs to turn against like that for the sake of gaming right now, but people wanted to jump on the bandwagon. You kind of potentially killed one our good ones gamers. Hope it's worth it.

meanwhile, Ubisoft, From (sorry guys, they dont push anything), activision etc get to keep releasing the same shit unscathed. They should be getting what CDPR got IMO.

But hey, this is a hobby shared with a child audience aswell...and because of that, things like this will transpire.

IDK about bias in the gaming community, but will be quite strange seeing the Game Media that joke about this on Xbox not responding to the same case on Playstation.

3 years. That other article has more info. We all just didn't know which games. But GT7 and Ragnarok are two more of them and are 2022 games. So expect more games announced later which will be 2023. Then all-in PS5 gaming will come in 2024.

PS4 to PS5 transition will take 3 years, more cross-gen games coming - SIE VP Hideaki Nishino confirms. | NeoGAF

Lol, if you stick to one platform maybe...There is crazy innovation and unique games released on a monthly basis almost on PC. Or hell, even finding insanely fun and new ways to play old games with mods. You play on a closed platform, your only allowed to play whatever that platform holder will allow released, play on an open one and you can play whatever YOU want to play.

The cost of AAA production means careful planning into what will sell the most to maximize return. When you can make unique shit with a small team of 8 or 9 people, you'll start seeing amazing things, which has been what's happening in the PC space for a long time.

Yeah, I really dont care for how mediocrity is praised in this industry with mid 80s scores for ubisoft games.

As for cd project, they had the right idea. IIRC, their first demo was running on a 11 tflops 1080 Ti at just 1080p 30 fps. I was like how are you gonna get this running at 1080p 30 fps on a 1.3 and 1.8 tflops gpu? answer was, you simply couldnt. They messed up by releasing this as a cross gen game. it shouldve been a next gen game through and through with maybe some paired back versions for the mid gen consoles. It looks absolutely stunning but they never shouldve released it in that state.

Rockstar's output has been quality but man if i have to wait 5 years between rockstar games, i might as well take a 5 year sabbatical from gaming.

Doubt it, due to gamepass.
If new games not available for old gen system, it will exclude alot of xboxone owners. Not everyone is on xcloud, xcloud still has latency and resolution issues.

Wasn't GT7 revealed as a PS5 exclusive? Maybe this is one of those situations where someone misspoke. Has Sony clarified or confirmed?
lol lets be honest here, alot of PS4 game boxes says "only on playstation" but its not lol, best example is days gone.

What i want to say here is that never believe what corporation says lol

yeah but without those budgets, a full fledge title that shifts things forward isn't likely to happen in those games...sure you'll get some cool indies, and some good games using more or less old mechanics. but you aren't going to get that progression were talking about usually....that progress costs money and devs were more willing to spend it once upon a time.

I.E. crysis 1 should have been expanded upon, but instead we got crysis 2 and 3. regression for profit. that in a nutshell is whats happening, crysis 1 to crysis 2 lol but the problem, alot of gamers dont see the same problem with crysis 2 and 3 vs 1 that me and some others do...so gamers like us might have to do some soul searching lol

and i own a 3070 i7 9700k PC, aswell as consoles

sony used to be a company that had quality at the top of priorities, if you start making decisions solely on possible profits, you start losing the fanbase
To be fair, Apple did fine.

They ditched all their weird gadgets 20 years ago, went mainstream, and their biggest innovation at the time (iPods which jump started them) was aimed for wide audience allowing PC users to even use iTunes software. Then Macs started converting to PC kind of chips.

Pretty sure they don't care if any hardcore Apple rebels from 1985 were angry they were going after the PC crowd. And the PC crowd is where the big opportunity was.

That would be hilarious. But it won’t happen as gamepass and streaming need the widest audience possible to maintain subs.

I mean come on...e3 is becoming a relic of the past, sony games are coming to PC...it's like the industry doesn't give a shit anymore lol

God of War 2 launched exclusively on PS2 when the PS3 was out. When Jim said we believe in generations he meant adding things that can be experienced on PS4 like ray tracing/3d Audio/near instant loading to name a few from feature perspective and things like exclusive games to utilize the feature set of new hardware. We've received Returnal, Demon Souls Remake and Rift Apart is launching in 9 days and these are PS5 only exclusives. There are exclusives from third party studios that are only PS5 exclusive only like Deathloop. Will we not get first-party PS5 only exclusives from SSM/Guerilla/Sucker Punch etc? The answer is no, we will definitely get PS5 exclusives from them in due time. SSM has an unannounced brand new IP that's rumored to be a PS5 exclusive. Stop with this Sony lied to us nonsense. That being said Sony could've outright said these are cross gen games from the start rather than slowly reveal them as yeah we are bringing them to PS4 as well.

So the dream about seamless travelling between worlds in GoW goes out of the window.
For GT7 it makes sense atleast, ssd doesn't change core gameplay in a racing game. It will be just faster loading, RT, better graphics etc., they can scale that back for PS4.

Care to explain this?

Why would I wait? I'd rather play it day 1 at the best possible configuration I can play it at. Also have a 2nd unopened Playstation 5 for no reason. If Sony decides to release their exclusives day 1 on PC, I'll have no reason to own one.

you think that was the only thing that was cool about the idea of E3? you feel as if it promoted just...fanboyism? I saw it as more a celebration of gaming and what's to come. and no the game awards doesn't do that as well.

and...console exclusives still....make sense. otherwise whats the point of any different box? I think certain companies don't want to compete anymore in the same way, but they still rely on fanboyism. once again....it's about money

Your absolutely right. It IS about money. E3 has never been a celebration of videogames. Hell, it was never meant to. It was started as a way for companies to shop their hardware/software to big box retailers. It's just been co-opted by your average consumer as a celebration. It's always been about money.

I love E3, but I'm not gonna pretend it's something it isn't.

And console exclusives make less sense now than ever considering the different avenues of play being tested, you can stream hundreds of Sony games straight to your PC right this minute if you want.

Remember when they were telling us that series s will hold next gen back….

Also PC version soon:

PS4 will hold back next gen PS5 games until 2022. Maybe 2023.

XSS will hold back next gen XSX games until 2027 and then NEXT next gen gaming for another 2 years since it will also have a cross gen period.

Sony has no shame lmao. As if lying through their teeth about it being a PS5 exclusive wasnt bad enough, look at how it says Coming 2021.

This probably belongs in the MS E3 thread, but I have been meaning to discuss the implications of this move by Sony and how MS can take the initiative and do what Sony did to them last gen. Remember #PS4NODRM? This could be it for MS. #XBoxNoLastGen. Right here right now at this E3, go out there and show the world what REAL next gen games look like.

Horizon looks very impressive but its no Hellblade 2. MS showed five CG trailers last year. 10 months should be plenty of time to make realtime in game trailers or vertical slices of those games. Doesnt matter if those games dont come out until 2023 or 2024. The narrative will shift immediately. MS will be the console maker offering gamers a true next gen experience while Sony is left with some cross gen games that look real pretty but play like last gen games.

UE5 demo shows that you can get photorealistic visuals like Hellblade 2. Fable can really go in on destruction, gorgeous cg visuals and dense forest design we didnt see in Horizon. State of Decay and Avowed could really push the envelope. The ball is in Microsoft's court. Sony has essentially taken the Nintendo route and removed themselves from the equation altogether by limiting themselves to last gen. It's time for MS to grab this opportunity and really show us what this 12 tflops console with 16 thread CPU and SSD can do.

.. play PS4, wait for PS5 Pro .. dont buy PS5.

Sadly, after this made-up Q&A, I think this is their strategy. It's going to be a fucking pain in the ass that they will continue making cross gen titles until they announce a PS5 Pro, and then start releasing true exclusives.

you aren't completely wrong, BUT we did like it. and there was some artistic nuance put into it, and it did make our hobby feel special. they paid and worked to "sell" it if that makes sense

now however, I think these days they said "you know...this e3 thing is expensive and stressful, why do we do it? We can sell our game without this"....that's a problem; and reflection of the overall thought process. They could have thought that a decade ago...so it's just mindset change more than a technological one.

Yap, just keep Halo-i for the crossgen, and the rest of their E3 lineup be for Series gen only, like the medium.
Gamepass subs are probably grateful to switch to SS or SX in light of such news.
They are already subb'ed, just need a new box. :lollipop_sunglasses: 🤞
