God of War Sequel and Gran Turismo 7 are Cross Generation Titles

People's problems aren't with Sony making niche titles like Demon's Souls, Returnal, and Destruction All-Stars (LOL) exclusive to the PS5. Their anger comes from the big SYSTEM SELLERS being cross-platform. Ratchet has never been a system seller, even back in its origin on the PS2.

But major games like God of War and Gran Turismo? Those are the games that people would camp out to get a PS5 for. And they don't have to do that if they have a PS4.

Nice try rewriting history. Ratchet and Clank is the second best selling Playstation franchise of all time.

Why isn't it? More people get to play the games. Isn't that what people love to say about PC ports?
Because as been posted numerous times, Cerny himself said that games designed for the SSD wouldn’t be able to run on old hardware. Game design would change but because they are cross gen it’s holding back the extra feature he talked about

Ratchet & Clank games are nice and everything, but nobody thinks of that franchise when they think about the triple AAA PlayStation first party system sellers.

God Of War is obviously a different story.
Great games but I agree.

It's an odd stance to take that we only saw when it became obvious (more and more so now as time goes by and we get more announcements) that R&C is the only nextgen title of significance that we're getting from Sony this year. Weird how that goes.

Even a BC non-native game like that the PS5 outperforms the series S. PS5 runs at 60fps in quality mode. Series S runs at 30fps.
Yeah sure but perf mode is 1440/60 on XSS and PS5, 120 on XSX.

But we are going off on a tangent a bit, I was just merely pointing out how XSS is a lot more capable than some would have you believe and regardless of its pure TFs its still current gen architecture. You can't argue that XSS is a bad idea and holding back devs while in the next breath say that the PS5 can't do anything the PS4 isn't also capable of doing.

Bruhhhh. Next-gen only GT7 was like my most anticipated game...

PD was talking about pushing 240 FPS not too long ago, now we're presented with this news...

There's still a possibility of GT8 being fully PS5 only. But that assumes Sony will launch another GT game during the PS5 era. If they do, GT8 would probably be around 2026 or 2027.

I always trust in Santa Monica and PoDi to deliver the best BTA/Story adventure game and the best Racing game, so the cross isn't the real issue, the issue is the 2 clowns Jimbo and Hermen with their shitshow communication.

its native 4k 60 fps with ray tracing right now. which means they can hit 120 fps at 1440p with ray tracing and 240 fps at 1080p without ray tracing.

If anything, this game being last gen pretty much confirms you are going to get basically GT Sports at really high framerates or ray tracing.

No one is doing advanced next gen physics, destruction, ray tracing and weather simulations at 120 fps on a 10 tflops console next gen, let alone at 240 fps.

again, these games have been in development for years, well before final PS5 dev kits existed. Scope is much larger than ratchet. And these games simply sell a lot more. You can risk ratchet, DS, or returnal having less sales. Not something like horizon with 10+M in sales

and it’s not like god of war or horizon aren’t significantly upgraded by next gen. horizon is better arguably the best looking next gen game revealed

The only one that surprises me is GT7 because we were led to believe that it would be PS5 exclusive. I think Sony are fearful that they can’t manufacture enough PS5s to warrant releasing their biggest franchises on PS5 only. It’s a sensible move business wise, but they do need to set expectations correctly, even if gamers do tend to take it too far.

its not like once they made the game it will only be sold for a limited time is it? I can't see not being enough ps5's sold yet as an excuse for cross gen

The issue isn’t really that the games are cross gen (though they will suffer for having to run on very old hardware) it’s more that Sony weren’t up front and transparent about it, because they were trying to shift Ps5s. Shady shit.

Unfortunately, there is more to it than that. I’m quite certain Sony had set their expected sales targets prior to covid19 turning everything to shit. The fact is, even if you wanted to buy a PS5 to play the latest games, you can’t and the shortage does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

Mira amazing the amount of spin being put on it in this thread. I agree with you totally, if you go to the god of war thread there was endless posts about it being ps5 exclusive because of the SSD and what not

it isn’t a bad thing being cross gen but it’s far from how they advertised in generations

Confused why you think this news will effect their ability to create a 240FPS mode.

In fact.... that indicated a heavy focus on a scalable engine tech... which means they probably always had it running on PS4.

how many do you expect GT to sell?

also when Xbox games aka halo was affected by Covid the masses of Sony fans in here had a great time. Yeah Covid has screwed over but doing cross gen games even more labour intensive unless they doing crappy upgrades to ps5 version

and I agree they should have been more transparent

but it’s false to say they aren’t delivering next gen exclusives on games where it makes sense from a production and business case

Back on topic folks. But valiant attempts at trying to derail the thread with Xbox Series S talk.

If GOW and GT7 are cross gen games in 2022, will Sony even more sequels that are full PS5 only games in 2027? The generation would be ending.

They might not even make another GOW or GT after those 2022 games.

You might have to wait until PS6 only games. And that assumes that don't make it cross gen with PS5.

True, not only all Sony's studios are known to take their time, but PD and SSM are the ones who have the longest development times of them all. While I'm rather confident in SSM, they already went throught the process of reinvent ing the franchise, so all later installments should take less time than GoW4, but it's really hard for me to imagine PD delivering another GT on PS5 after GT7. And with PS4 being the base once again, I''m afraid it'll be just another outdated GT with pretty Graphics on top...

There are lots of PS4 racing games that do all that.

I honestly think there will be 2 GT games on ps5 if am honest. Once they have the first out they will fine tune there tech and get about her out befor the end of ps5s lifespan

Games not able to take full advantage of the hardware you say? Isn't that what this whole thread is about?

Uuuugh.... what are you even talking about?

Why are you trying to make a false equivalency between a cross-gen game and a BC game?

Or is it that you can't grasp that there's a difference between them at all?
