Final Fantasy 16 Sony Exclusive Rumor 👀

Releasing 2031? Exciting.

Just like that wack, overrated, "dream E3" they had.

I'll be skeptical and cynical about FF til they get back to their glory days. FF finished more or less with the PS1 in my opinion.
FFVIIR was pretty good and i heard FFXIV got awesome at one point so i would be cautiously optimistic.

FF can get back on track

apparently here lot of people still doesnt played XIV...play it next month once patch 5.3 landed. Base game+ Heavenward expansion is available free.

XIIIs and XV dissapointed me but XIV restored my faith. The FF you guys looking for is already there.

Heavensward and Shadowbringers definitely one of the best ff and square giving one of it basically free starting next month.

more than one point. Heavensward expansion is amazing but people at first dont expect square to repeat the success. Then later last year Shadowbringers landed.

even the writer Natsuko Ishikawa got standing ovation at pax west.

Next expansion 6.0 should be coming next year and we see if they can nailed it for 3rd time.

I don't think they moneyhatted ANYTHING in the PS2 generation. Companies actually WANTED to be Sony exclusive - because with 155 million PS2s vs 24 milllion Xboxes and 21 million Gamecubes, going multiplatform was pointless a lot of the time. Maybe they see that situation happening again.
Nah they money hatted the *shit* out of everything. They didn't come out of the gate with 155 million PS2 lol.

The consumers who aren't buying their products?

Why would it be Sony's job to ensure they are satisfied with their Xbox, Nintendo, etc?
You dont understand what being "consumer friendly" means then if you think that a company doing deals to harm consumers is "consumer friendly".

If you expect a company to sacrifice their own bottom-line to satisfy the competitor's customers, then you're the one who is failing to understand.
I don't care about the company, I care about the consumer.

You just proved without a doubt that you don't understand consumer friendliness. I bet you're all in favour of monopolies too.

More exclusive BS. I'm not buying a console just to play one or two games anymore. I'm done with that nonsense. I'll either wait til it gets a PC release or I'll emulate it once it's available.

Like Fbh said, instead of Sony wasting money on timed exclusives, they could have created dedicated studio that make JRPG, same way Nintendo have with Monolith Soft.

We could have first party JRPG like we used to get on PS2...remember this?

ugh, salty salty tears..

DONT REMIND ME
I know man. I still remember those days of buying a PS3 for exclusives. I wanted XIII so badly I’d purchased a PS3 earlier than expected just to get a hand on the ACC/XIII demo bundle. Trailer at E3 2008 was badass!

I'm not really into FF anymore, but I don't mind more tears from the other side of the console war since I will get a PS5 for sure. lol

Not surprising look at FF7 Remake. This is why any chance they get Microsoft should fuck Sony over. Give people the same energy they give you.

You seem to forget that it's Xbox that started all this exclusivity deals with the 360!

It was their main tactic against the PS3.

When Sony does it though, everyone goes mental screaming it's "anti-consumer" of them.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Like I always say. I hate shit like this. Of course, I will have all the consoles, so I'll get to play it, but I'm sick of this practice in the industry.

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Business culture (I'm an expert), but releasing your game on as many platforms as possible are huge parts of it. We are not living in a communist society where you can make a living by sending people to the gulag. If you fail to make money here in the west, you will go bankrupt, and there is now way to recover from that.

What this means is the xbox crowd, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXVI for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh at me all you want, but Square has alienated the entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and release FFXVI on all platforms (inlucluding the OUYA) or you can kiss you business goodbye.

So when Microsoft bought Ninja Theory, Obsidian and all the other studios - basically locking away any future games from them coming to PlayStation and Nintendo, that’s ok. But heaven forbid if Spider-Man exclusive in Avengers happens, ” This is outrageous! Anti-consumer!” :messenger_grinning_smiling:

timed exclusives are waste of money tbh, get that money build a new studio for shooters, if its free why pay for it? ff always sell better on playstation anyways right.

Huge. But for me it doesn't matter. I always play FF on PS anyway. Btw, do we really think FF16 will be revealed before FF7R2?

I haven't forgot shit. Sony has been making these kind of deals with third parties since PS1. It's all good.

This cant be true. It's too early for FF16 no? I sort of feel bad for MS. It's going to be a slaughter this gen.

Can you imagine Gamepass on PS6? That would crazy. It's probably the smart move fo MS, if you can convince Sony that you leaving the hardware platform industry, giving Sony a monopoly.

MS has more money, do third parties give them the bird because their hardware sells like ass compared to playstation and to recoup missed playstation sales, exclusivity is just that much more expensive? Because when it comes to buying out studios and making their own new games, MS has really ramped it up and far surpassed Sony recently.

Wtf we in bad cycle now.

Anyway, it will be a short exclusive if anything, FF don't attract sales as much i guess. Too much shounen anime trite in FF games, makes me giddy 🤷‍♀️

If I remember correctly non of the FF games have sold well on MS consoles. Especially 13 and that was when there were more Xbox consoles than PS3 consoles out there. For Square its probably a good move if they get enough enough money from Sony. They concentrate on one platform and dont lose a lot of sales. I dont think its comparable with Tomb Raider back in the day. FF simply doesnt have the mindshare on XBox.

Also I dont think timed exclusivity is a waste of money. The game gets most of its attention when its announced and when its released and if that happens to be on one particular platform than thats whats ingrained on peoples mind. FF7 and 8 released within a year on PC. But to this day people say it was an playstation exclusive. Even though most people these days play the PC steam version. That just how that works.
FF7 remake's launch next year on xbox and PC wont gather much attention. All the analyzes, the speculation, the comparisons, etc. have been done on Playstation hardware, all the hardcore fans played it on a Sony platform and so Sony has gotten a lot out of it. If you like it or not. timed exclusives work and probably are more bang for the buck for the publisher and the platformholder.

People don't even know what anti-consumer means yet they constantly screech it.

It seems to be the standard go to word that snowflakes use when they see a business practice they don't like.

These people need to take a deep breath and go back to school. Maybe then they would also be able to afford things they want so it won't be an issue.

I can see FFXVI being a time-exclusive like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and not a console-exclusive. No need to worry XB fans, because by the time it comes out for the XSX, it will have all the DLCs included.

With what exactly?

Also deals like this become possible for games due to the following reasons:
  • Lower install base on Xbox
  • The game series (or genre of game) typically doesn't sell well on Xbox
  • (disclaimer: this point is speculation on my part) Xbox Lockhart is real and they can't be fucked with it, this is a way to avoid it while still making money.

My big worry here is that this has dangerous indication of Sony is no longer interested investing on first party Japanese games and instead they just pay third party Japanese games for timed exclusives and.....

You won't find me saying that I'm glad they acquired them though, so you can take that attempted "Gotcha!" back. I would prefer pretty much every dev company is third party apart from ones that the console makers build from scratch. There are situations where if a dev didn't get bought out they would have folded though, in which case it's a necessary evil (not saying any of these were)

Wait you think that Microsoft were the ones that started moneyhatting and it started with the 360?? :messenger_grinning_sweat: Oh boy, that must have been your first console generation.

If we end up with some unique Japanese titles as a result (not FF as it is in this case) then I'm all for it.

If it's just gonna be shit like this at the expense of them investing in Sony Japan then no bueno.

Not in content obviously but spending on acquisitions. Sony has only bought insomniac recently and seems to be spending a lot on third party while MS is spending bucketloads on new studios.

They need to because they didn't have enough, especially not if they want exclusive in-house content for gamepass.

They will ultimately be judged on the quality of games those studios produce under their tutelage, not just on the number of studios they have. The jury is still out.
