That's exactly what they are doing, no? Game Pass, Play Anywhere, xCloud, different SKUs, for me it looks like they are going the ISP/telecom route, where they want to have as many people attached to their ecosystem who pay them small fees but on monthly basis, vs traditional model Sony continues, where there's immense burst of cash but only once in a while whenever a blockbuster AAA launches.

Sorry but I don’t see them winning, this gen. It’s going to take the full gen for them to prove the exclusives moving in the the gen after. If they they build a portfolio and have exclusives going into the gen after, ps6 is fucked... if they do it right all this gen. Of course that means Sony has to Fuck up the whole gen. Best case scenario.. even with a more powerful console, is they would be about tied fity- fity. Right now little Johny switch is killing it. On both PS4 and Xbox x... that’s crazy.

Depends on your definition of winning. Hardware sales alone won’t predict a winner, if Phil just considers turning over a profit or making Gamepass and XCloud a win then that will be their win.

Just like many here consider most hardware sales as winning but it’s all really arbitrary. If both platforms have good to impressive sales, good revenue from services and increase their MAU then I think you can call both platforms a winner. Otherwise it’s just stupid ass fanboy speak that people stroke their ego to.

You might be into something, I had myself previously stated if they really do go with the two SKU solution then they may sell Series X at a small loss or even a premium and make the Series S dirt cheap to undercut Sony. Because holy shit as bad as the hypothetical series S May be in terms of power compare to the PS5 and a series X, if it still has the same CPU, close to the same amount or equal in memory and the SSD drive, that price would make it sell like crazy.

It would also make buying both systems at launch more viable.

Only by a couple of million and when you put in into perspective of Sony coming off the back of the PS2 selling what 150million? MS basically came in and took half the market away from them. So it was a massive lose for Sony but a big gain for MS.

There's a reason why Microsoft's stock is worth almost 3x that of Sony - MSFT has its fingers on every important pie in the technology space right now, from Cloud technology to analytics. They are sitting on loads of cash and are significantly more liquid than Sony. In the last five years, as Sony dominated the console market, their stock price increased by 96%. Microsoft's went up by... 270%.

Game Pass, xCloud, Play Anywhere are laying the foundations for gaming to be merged into their already extremely robust Cloud portfolio. Gaming is a sideshow, an excuse to work their way into people's living rooms.

People here arguing about who will "win" while Satya and Phil laugh all the way to the bank, counting the money they get from SONY for hosting their entire entertainment platform on Azure.

Still no timestamp on where he said they have a plan to "win the console hardware sales race"? I watched the previous interview with this same guy on the top right, and Phil said something to the effect of "we think Xbox+PC+xCloud is a winning plan". It was an hour long interview, and I'm not watching another 30min of the same thing. Since everybody is operating on the pretense that he said "we have a plan to win the console hardware sales race", it would be an easy thing to point out where he said that. It would save me 30min(couldn't find it in the transcript, but Youtube isn't the best at auto transcript), and I'd give you a thumbs up, or even a heart for saving me time.

Concerning price, I think both consoles go for $499. If you want a cheaper alternative, they still might have Lockhart, and if not, they have xCloud, PC, and All-Access.

it might retail at $299, but MS will have regular sales like they do with x1’s. So black Friday $199.

4tf apu will be tiny, cut the ram in half, cut the # of cpu threads, have a small ssd, like 250 or so, then take a $100 loss to gain marketshare. If you are going to make a cheap console, it has to be cheap.. $399 is not cheap.

But then 4TF is extremely weak compared to the other two. I heard rumors that it might be around the 6TF mark which would be ok for a console like that.

I mean, “we have a plan to win” is just a meaningless platitude. Really Phil, would be stunned if you didn’t tbh.

Xbox vs PlayStation is Rc cola vs Coca Cola. Rc cola ceo goes out everyday to say the obvious. Yes they have a plan. Yes they’re going to do something. Yes they’re going have a great launch. Until they don’t, until plans change. I for one am tired of coming here and other websites and every front page is “Phil said this and Xbox has the most power.” I don’t care what Phil said and I honestly don’t care about Tflops. Sony isn’t saying much because they don’t have to. Rc cola has to say something, anything for attention because their the product no body wants.
