Phil Spencer Says Team Xbox Have a “Plan” to “Win” the Next Generation

Following on from his one on one interview with IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey, Phil Spencer has now been a guest on IGN show Next-Gen Console Watch 2020. This is IGN’s show where they break down all the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X news and rumours.

The video is just under 30 minutes long so it’s fairly lengthy in nature. One segment stuck out to us when Phil spoke about having a plan to win [the next generation]. In the video interview, Phil Spencer said that:

“You have to set a price target at the beginning for yourselves and then you roll in as you see the competition and you start to do your go-to-market planning.
“I feel good about the price we’re going to be able to get to. I feel good about the price and the performance capabilities that we have for Series X. I feel incredibly strong about the overall package.
“We have a plan and we feel very solid about it. I believe we have a plan that can win [the next generation.]
We can infer that Phil is referring to an amalgamation of things Xbox has put in place such as winning the power advantage, full backwards compatibility, xCloud, Game Pass etc. and how he and his team believe their plan is sufficient to win.

It is already going pretty well in terms of communication.

Sony still has solutions though, such as buying exclusives from famous third party series to force people into buying PS5 (likely), and releasing at lower price (less likely).

well they have been doing everything 100% right since the One X launch.

Sales haven't improved though, and Sony haven't skipped a beat despite keeping a low profile.

See the interesting thing to me is that although Xbox fans are banging their war-drums hard, there's nothing like the same sort of volume coming from disgruntled PS users. This is a big deal because if the majority of people are happy with gaming on PS4. why would they want to switch in the near future?

I'm so fucking tired of BOTH of these companies just talking and talking and talking.
I couldn't care less about either of your plans, just show me some games, good lord.

At least we have seen Gears 5 on XsX, and SoD loading time on XsX. It’s not much but it’s better than nothing.

Id like to think both companies release meaty gameplay trailers or at least teases by mid-June. Some in depth OS tours or official feature breakdowns would be cool too

$399 just isnt going to happen, best forget it now.

Counting for inflation the launch price of the 2013 consoles would be $443 today.

Now bear in mind how high tech this console is compared to the relative power of the XB1 and PS4 when they launched... yeah $500 minimum if were lucky.

I assume they're launching with a Forza... we know about a Halo... that's honestly pretty good even though you could get them on One X. Is there a 3rd launch title?
They match PS5s launch price and then we have a ballgame.
There's a LOT riding on the PS5 launch lineup. They're obviously pushing Last of Us 2 there. Also available PS4.

If by win they mean compete and not get totally blown out then I believe him.

I doubt the XSX can outsell PS5.
The Play Station Brand is like Toyota. You know you can rely on it to get you there.
The Xbox brand is like a Sports car brand. Its exciting but (it's 1st Party) is less reliable and lots of unknowns.
