I'm sure you'll let me know when it does, and I couldn't care less. Wii's trajectory was to surpass PS2 and fell off a cliff. So for the time being, I wouldn't go ahead and set things in stone for the Switch.
Wii:
FY1: 5.84
FY2: 18.61
FY3: 25.95
FY4: 20.53
FY5: 15.08
FY6: 9.84
FY7: 3.98

Switch:
FY1: 2.74
FY2: 15.05
FY3: 16.95
FY4: 21.03
FY5: 28.83

PS2 was a DVD player but I'm sure you don't make that distinction when talking about its sales.

PS3 and PS4 were also bluray players.

PS5 is a 4k player.

See how that works?
At the time the Playstation CONSOLES you named released they couldn't be played on the go. They launched as home consoles.

Most Nintendo devices don't have physical movie watching abilities and that's kinda sad considering some of them are home consoles.

Literally none of the consoles had "physical movie watching abilities"

it's interesting that the two consoles numbers it's being compared to are one company's best selling home console ever and the other company's worst selling home console ever.
Looking at the numbers I'm always surprised that the Wii didn't actually sell more than it did, it always seemed like the console that everybody I knew owned, including people who didn't really have any interest in games. It did have some good games but I didn't and still don't really have any fondness for the console.
It's strange, in some ways I do feel much the same about the Switch. Before people jump in with that, it's really not a criticism of what Nintendo are doing with it as they're clearly doing something very right with it for millions of people but I still happily play my NES and SNES games after all these years. It's weird, I really don't know what it is but it almost feels like it's just passed me by this generation. I'm probably just getting old!!

Yes. Clearly. Along with 99.9 percent of other humans. How many of those sold? Did they sell them in the us?
GAF is the 0.1% that would remember these things. However, the jury is still out on whether we can be classified as human.

I couldn't tell you the numbers sold but I'm pretty certain it was abysmal.

Incorrect. Also look at my edit. With all that being said. What's your beef? Why are you upset with Nintendos overwhelming success?
I'm not upset.
I just correctly separate Switch and home consoles.

If I could only buy one console and all three Nintendo,Sony and MS had similar power plus online capabilities.... it would be the Nintendo one.

Man, what is it with Nintendo bouncing back after dark periods, coming back stronger than ever?

While it's my favorite console ever, the GCN was in third place during its generation. Next generation, the Wii and DS completely dominated to a degree rarely seen in gaming. Next generation, the Wii U is an utter failure and laughingstock, easily Nintendo's worst selling console besides the Virtual Boy. In fact, despite selling less, I would argue that VB is actually a more relevant system due to its reputation as a shitshow of a console, whereas the Wii U was kinda just there. But then the Switch comes out, and Nintendo is on top yet again.

I feel like their next console will fail, but the console after that will sell like hotcakes. That seems to have been the pattern the last few generations.
Its like windows for microsoft!

The switch is a console. This isn't debatable.

If Switch is at 90 million, and it's clocking in at 25M+ units per year (it's actually picking up steam than dropping), it'll beat out PS4 in less than two years. And that OLED version is just an extension, so it'll add to the pot for years and not be considered a new platform. PS4 sales are at 112M as of June 30, 2020 as per Wiki. Maybe it'll end at 120M.

You try real hard but lack substance.

Let me say it for the 3rd time in this thread.
I can hook my cell phone to a TV and hook a controller to it to play games.
Does this make it a home console?
Nope. That's a cell phone. Again quote someone in the industry. Absolutely anybody that says switch isn't a console. I'll wait.

It's as much of a home console if not more so as it can play significantly more console games than the Switch.
Ironically Switch also shares mobile specs.

I can use my own common sense/logic no need to quote anybody.
Nintendo's faithful are a different market as Nintendo relies more on gimmicks.
Nintendo doesn't make a current gen console nor does Nintendo offer modern online gameplay abilities.

Agreed.

Wii was a fad. And once people noticed how shitty the games were and how dumb motion waggling is, sales dropped like a rock somewhere I think in 2010. Pretty sure 360 and PS3 outsold Wii in the final years of that era, but Wii's sales were so front loaded it still beat MS/Sony by 10-15M each.

It was one of those systems that was more of a secondary system or system for loners. I knew people too who got one who never cared about games. And some people bought it to add to their 360 or PS3. So tons of systems are out there. But back then I never heard any Wii user really talk about their system or want to play online. If you wanted to hear about the latest games or see who wants to play, it was always get your ass online after dinner on 360 or PS3.

As for Switch, I think the key reason it keeps chugging is simply because it acts as both console and handheld. And for anyone playing handheld games, you either go mobile phone F2P kinds of games or go the Switch console route which can have indie games too like on a phone. But you can also play Nintendo first party games and third party games. So you get a best of both console gaming and mobility. For anyone who prefers console maker handhelds, you got no choice but Switch.

If Switch was strictly a traditional console you played in front of your TV, this system would be dead fast.

Lmao. "It's a handheld because I say so" great argument there chief. There are probably dozens of people in the world who agree with you. Dozens!

You've got nothing. Move along.

Great selling system, but still way lower than Nintendo's best heydays which was Wii + DS sales 10-15 years ago. Those two probably combined for 200 million.
It's not even close to remotely be comparable... DS and Wii didn't have same library, people don't buy two Switches normally unless they collect them, they get one and have access to all Nintendo catalog in one platform, for DS and Wii people had to get the two if they wanted the same experience and they were cheap so it was easy to see many people having both even in third world countries. Switch is a single platform, most people don't feel the need to get another if they already have one.

Let them be, they've been too deep in this console war shit that they're just paving the way to their next argument JUST IN CASE Switch surpasses the PS2, so "PS2 will still be the most sold CONSOLE"... can smell it from the distance.

Thing is, only in english (that I know) "console" and "handheld" are two different things when it comes to videogames, in japanese (geemu), spanish (consola) and other language they're the same thing and referred as the same properly.

It's a hybrid dedicated gaming device, take it as you will, it's a home console for me and a handheld device for my gf, as it can be both, it can be called both as you need an argument for ammo.

Nope, my prices are correct and you're making stuff up to fit a narrative, the 360 actually cheaper than the Wii for a while, both were down to 299 within 3 years of release,
in 2008 the cheapest 360 was actually cheaper than the wii, and got as low as 180 for standard retail
feel free to peruse the archives and these
and the 360 always had a 299 model anyway
you might also be disappointed to find out the ps4 and xbox one were both the same price as the switch at the switch's launch so it NEVER had a price advantage and both cheaper than the switch in the US every single holiday season since it launched save for this 2020, when the xbox one and ps4 moved very few units,
clearly your memory is poor and you should really do 5 minutes of research before shifting to pompous know-it-all, that is of course, misinformed.
Now you are just getting blatant with your fanboyism. To continue to ignore that the switch having a 199 model and draw false equivalency to the LAUNCH of the switch price to the reduced prices of the PS3 and 360 is just shameful.

Okay we get it you like the damn system but to pretend that the switch doesn't have a price advantage is a straight up lie. At this point I'm just going to block your behind since you clearly can not dialogue without taking the blinders off.

I know you can't see it, but if you have to block someone because they provide factual data that you're wrong, you might be a fanboy. What a sore loser.

Y-yeah, well...! If you think about it, the Switch isn't really even a console! That's because it has a feature that the other consoles don't have, so...it doesn't count! Haha, better luck next time Nintendo!

I love how they compare it to the consoles that have similar graphical capabilities.
that's because they were the next 2 inline, when it outsells the wii and ps1, those milestones will be discussed, when it the likely even it outsells the ps4 that will be discussed as well, just as it going to be brought up when the ps5 outsells the snes (just guessing that will be the first milestone discussed), the nes, the ps3/xbox 36- , the wii/ps1 and then maybe the ps4 (much like the switch exceeding the ps2/ds is a tall order and would require something amazing to get that sort of tail)
so while yes it is accurate the ps3/360 are comparable to the switch, that isn't the reason for the toast

switch software doesn't include games that are only digital so if Nintendo counted software like sony did their total would be higher, how much is impossible to say by how much, reference

I see it passing the Wii & PSX, that's about it

Btw this is the 4th thread about Switch being on the road to the #1 selling console without a mention of the PS4 🤔
Why would you mention the PS4? It’s not the highest selling nor is it even selling anything worth mentioning anymore. The Switch is a certainty to overtake it unless they discontinue it next year.

Given the context of this thread and every other Switch thread....
We had the lowest selling console mentioned.
And we had two consoles that have been discontinued for year's.
But the console that the Switch has been on the market with and is currently the highest selling console of that generation and the second best selling console of a time.
Yeah, why would you mention the PS4?

Wait! I know because it the only one that relevant.

look, Its gonna overtake it so I don't know what the fuss is about.
