Between this and the new Ace Combat it seems some higher up at Namco just discovered the Burnout series.

But... this isn't....Flatout is cool....but I want my Ridge Racer. They had a good thing going with the nitro charge in 7. The main thing I liked about Ridge Racer was it's cool futuristic style. That trailer is ridiculous. I'm all for a change to the traditional Ridge Racer formula but this is just too far. It makes me scared for Ace Combat, the trailers they have put out for that seem cool but what if there is some huge gotcha with that?.

Ace still looks really good. SamBishop gave some impressions in the other thread and mentioned that you can still play the game exactly like the old Ace games if you want. They've just given you an option to go into a chase mode if you want upclose action.

That may be just the kick in the dick in the balls this series needs.

Well on the bright side, looks like RR7 will still continue to get play until PS4 comes out or at least the NGP RR providing that one isn't outsourced as well.

native FULL 1920x1080p 60fps in 2006 launch bitches!

They're basically shitting on Ridge Racer fans in the most flagrant possible way.
Best news I've heard all day!

Ok I'll stop now. Rewatching the trailer, it's even more unintentionally hilarious than I previously realised. Good lord @ the CGI quality! 2002/2003, and that's being generous.

Really, the only good thing about this is that Bugbear is the developer. Those guys know how to make excellent racing games.

Need For Speed Underground, Burnout, vehicular destruction, an open world, rock/metal soundtrack...these things are not Ridge Racer. If Namco and Bugbear want to make this game, fine, just don't call it Ridge Racer, they're not doing themselves or their game any favors by doing so.
This.

The meltdowns in this thread have me rolling, if it looks good an plays well I'll get it whether I has the ridge racer name or not.

I might dig out RR7 and play it right now. Also I pray for isamu's sanity. Although it will be coming to PC so he should like that part. He'll be able to use his wheel.

Not really getting the outrage, established racing franchises branching out into other sub-genres isn't anything new

Fans of the series don't want it branching off into "sub-genres". That should've been made crystal clear to NAMCO when no one bought R: Racing Evolution.

It's FlatOut 3. So no complaints there, love the series.

As a Ridge fan (too) though, this is terribly disappointing.

Polarising to the max!

I...........am....

I am just......... scratching my head over here in COMPLETE bewilderment. Not sure what to make of this guys, I'm really not.

1st RR game to grace the PC would normally have had me doing backflips down Hollywood Blvd in the fucking NUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(which I am still tempted to do)

****But****....farming out my favorite racing franchise to a European developer and then implementing "Burnout-ish" gameplay is ummm......yeah. I'll get back to you....

They should just call this one R:Crash Porn.

Then we could just ignore it, and wouldn't have Isamu's well-being to worry about.

How big a difference is RR7 from RR6? Like, how many new tracks?

The biggest difference for me was that R7 just felt far more polished than 6 did. The aesthetics were far more pleasing and the game wasn't as tedious. That said, I do think both games were pretty mediocre... definitely a far cry from Rage Racer/R4/RRV.

About 2, I think? It's been a while. Plus one awesome surprise near the end :)

I think the statute of limitations is up. Spoiler please? (played RR6 to 100% completion, never played RR7)

Since we're on the topic, which is the better Ridge Racer 6 or 7?

Ridge Racer 7 is to Ridge Racer 6 as Ridge Racers 2 is to Ridge Racers, therefore 7 is the better of the two games. Ultimately there's little difference between the two other than a few extra tracks and a different layout to the career mode.

I played 6 to death at launch so when I got 7 for PS3 it was all a bit too familiar and as a result, it didn't get anywhere near as much play time as 6.

Isamu, just play some Outrun 2 mate, it'll soothe your jangled nerves.

Not even the music sounds like Ridge Racer. I fucking hate you, Namco. There's no reason this needs the RR name, when it doesn't have anything that's even close to a trademark trait of the RR series. And if that girl is Reiko.. I don't even want to say right now. It can still be a good game, but this is a slap in face for me as someone who wanted a new RR.

But certainly not like this.

Just watched the trailer. As a fan of Ridge Racer since the first one, what the fuck was that all about? O_O

Sigh. -______-

Despite this using the Ridge Racer name I thought the trailer was pretty interesting. Let's see what they can come up with. We have several dozen spin-off "Mario" titles. I don't see the problem.

I'm fucking disgusted but somewhat comforted by the fact it hasn't been labeled "RR8".
Hopefully it'll just remain a shitty spinoff and the main series will still be deved internally.
No Sano music = not a Ridge.

Fuck this Japanese subcontracting craze. I can't even imagine what they think about this in Japan when WE from the west already react the way we do.

Ggrrrr, not Ridge. ;_;

It's in development at Bugbear Entertainment, the Finnish developer behind the FlatOut series and 2007 PSP game SEGA Rally.

Outsourcing again??? Why???!!! I loved RR7 and RR6 and I do not want any major changes done to them. I never played the FlatOut series, so I cannot comment on the quality of the developer's games, but I'm really beginning to wonder what is going one with Japanese developers. Oh well, if it's fun, I guess that's all that matters.

OK, it has been over two hours since I typed that post, and I am still just......shaking my head.

Honestly, I refuse to become enraged over this news, because right now I'm a bit under the weather and can't afford to allow myself to become emotionally unstable over this situation. I am FORCING myself to think only of the bright side, and the fact that I will be able to play a new RR game with my FFB wheel, due to it being on the PC. That is unquestionably fantastic news!

But.....if...*IF* this game really is going to be focused on vehicle combat in an open world setting, then yes, Namco will be utterly fucking DEAD to me from now on!!!!!!! I may as far as to do something drastic that I won't even mention here!

But alas gentlemen, lets all take a deep breath, and refrain from jumping to too many conclusions. It *IS* afterall, only a trailer, and we don't know what the graphics or the gameplay is really going to be like, other than *MAYBE* a hint of Burnout gameplay.

Let's wait a see what the next few days bring.

There's two new locations each with 3 or 4 tracks, I believe, and then a final surprise track (best looking track IMO).

It's definitely worth while as, apart from the awful engine noises, it's better than RR6 in every way. It just feels more complete and polished all around. Also, it's one of the only PS3 games out there that runs at full 1920x1080 at 60 fps. It's pretty nifty.

God you guys wouldn't believe the dream I had earlier today.

Alright now get this. I had a dream somebody posted a trailer to some new Ridge Racer game, except it had nothing to do at all with Ridge Racer. Instead it was some wannabe Burnout/Midnight Club thingamajig and the trailer resembled something straight out of the PS1 era. Worst of all it was being developed by some guys whose games I've never enjoyed.

....
.....
.....Is somebody going to wake me up now? Please? Help?

In other bad news I discovered I sold off my copy of RR7. I played RR6 to death and RR7 felt a bit too similar. But seeing as how this...whatever this is... is the future of the RR franchise I guess I'm stuck.
