On another note, I think I’m taking this opportunity to tackle on the games side quests since there are lots of them and I beelined the main story. Then again, I might wait for the 40fps mode.

This guy is fucking moron every time talking about something relative to Sony. Hope Jhon make a video update about it and not him. Anyway I can finally buy it. Day one is confirmed again as a mistake and not worth it.
I hate that guy. And it seems lots of people don’t like him too. Era users also didn’t agree with him.

I mean sometimes he really shit out of the bed. They take a lot of time to improve it and for him it's just a oversharpening with hideous results. I bet whatever you want he is completely wrong (as always when talking about sony studio tech) he barely care to be properly informed about the studio sony feedback ; Guerrilla they already claimed to have started to change the rendering of the plantes in the perfomance mode with the previous patches.

After spending a good 2 hrs with the game last night after the new update, wow, what a difference performance mode is now! Graphically it's fantastic and much better now.

Did they do anything with resolution mode too, or was this strictly to make performance mode better?

No change to fidelity mode but i noticed a difference immediately. it felt far smoother.

Huge difference. Disabling most of the foliage sway in performance mode is a good trade-off. The whole screen does still go slightly darker when I move the camera, I thought they will address that as well but the overall picture quality is so much better.

I think I'll play some more this weekend as I left the game with tons of side content unfinished.
Reconstruction does it unfortunately, noticed already in many games with TAUU DRSS and CBR. Hardly is it fixable, my wild guess.

He is still downplaying it, but it is him being him…
You can always count on him to do his favorite maneuver when there is any positivity about a Sony game.

Ahem.. get into the Zero Dawn lore first, then play the game from the start and you'll understand why Utaru people sing.

Lore is the best portion of these games to me, you could write an entire really good book series with it.
In the realm of videogames this is S Tier stuff.

I played 2 hours now, and its more then just a sharpening. Maybe its jus DRS, i dont know. Whatever they done, its heavily noticeable.


Everyone knows (and that includes Alex, of course) that adding a ton of sharpening to a shimmering mess just causes... well, even more shimmering. In fact the only way to mitigate this issue a bit was turn the sharpening setting on your TV all the way down. So I don't know why Alex is saying that bullshit. It's obvious Guerrilla has done important tweaks to their temporal AA solution, and maybe more changes. That's not something you can fix with a sharpening filter, that was the problem and the reason it took 14 patches, a completely new approach was required, as John predicted on Tweeter when the game launched and people started complaining about the IQ in Performance mode.
 
Looks so much better now. They have cut some stuff down like draw distance and some particles but nothing you would notice outside of a side by side comparison.

The glider (and probably the holograms at Vegas) still looks a bit dodgy and there is some TAA blurring or something but nothing crazy.

Can't believe people were blaming TVs..

The transmog is great too as some of the sets were useless for my maximum cheese minimum skill strategy.

Correct me if I’m wrong but they didn’t originally use TAA, they were using checkerboard rendering even on the PS5.

Now maybe they’ve implemented a TAA solution, it’s definitely not CB though but whatever it is, it’s dam good.
You can use TAA with checkerboard rendering.


Guerrilla experimented with several higher resolution strategies, trying them out side-by-side before settling on 2160p checkerboard. In terms of native rendering, the team gave 1500p a shot, but weren't fully satisfied with the results. And to be clear, checkerboarding in the case of Horizon involves rendering half of the pixels for the full 2160p frame, the other half resolving via reprojection from the previous frame - a process that Giliam says provides a "native resolution detail level", if not quite the sharpness. However, every natively rendered pixel - be it 1080p on base PS4 or checkerboard 2160p on Pro - also benefits from 4x temporal super-sampling.
"For our anti-aliasing we prefer to use four samples per pixel, we also do that at 1080p," explains Giliam. "That's because all of our vegetation is alpha tested. Individual leaves of grass can be less than half a pixel wide, so you get all sort of jittery artefacts in the distance that can be annoying to work with. We figured out with 1080p that four samples per pixel - four times super-sampling - is the minimum. We also use two frames of sequential animation for anti-aliasing in 1080p which is just a variation of temporal reprojection."

The people in witcher 3 organise parties and play gwent and they are way more fucked up than horizon tribes...

Didnt see this posted, but GamingTech was the only one who covered this Performance Mode issue for the last 3 months. DF, NX Gamer, VG Tech, ElAnalDeBits didnt even acknowledge it in their reviews and barely covered GG's disastrous attempts to fix it. This man singlehandedly held GG responsible patch after patch, and deserves all the credit for it. A true journalist.


You can see just how poor the IQ was in Patch 1.4. It looked like how some series s games look when the resolution drops too low. Just a blurry vaseline covered mess. Now it looks perfect. No shimmering, details are not blurred out, IQ remains stable in motion. How DF and NX Gamer were ok with this is beyond me. How they never followed up with GG on behalf of their viewers is simply disappointing. Their allegiance should be to the viewer who gets them the clicks to get them the ad revenues, not to the studios they want to be besties with.

What’s the problem with this exactly? They had very good lives with the machines taking care for them. These people are mostly like superstitious cavemen, there’s nothing wrong with what they’re doing lmao

CDPR has became quite adept at story telling and world building. They're simply on an another level. HZD/HWF has nothing on games lik w1/w2/w3/cyberpunk

It’s written like a comic book. Aloy & Horizon are very similar to Peter Parker & Spider-man.

Difference is 1 is a new IP (relatively) and the other is the most famous comic book character & world of all time.

And it might also come down to the director, leads of Horizon being Dutch. English isn’t their native tongue, so they might have slightly different feelings towards judging dialogue. Tho surely 1 of their writers probably is a fluent/native English speaker, idk. I can notice this at times with English dialogue written by Japanese native speakers, which isn’t a big deal for me. I give em props, like I could never write a game script in Dutch lol.

And yet, all the scifi in horizon is explained to the smallest detail while in witcher you just have to shrug because magic explain everything...not sure how one is more believable than the other.

But sure, dialogues are much better in witcher, i think that horizon has great lore but i would hire someone else for the characters dialogues for the third game.

This team has been amazing with the post-launch support in consistency, and adding in this new content as well. Not enough of a masochist to play any game at Ultra Hard difficulty but I'm really curious about the Reset Skills function (if it's not tied to New Game+) and new Trophies.

Downloading today.

TBF this is the same guy who said Halo Infinite's June 2020 showcase was "fine" and that it was really just the lighting that needed work.

Though also TBF, DF did more recently get pretty harsh about Halo Infinite's visuals...at least Rich and John have been. Dunno if Alex is still making excuses in that regard. Still though it's pretty disrespectful and dismissive to the work these teams put into their games, especially post-launch, to throw out a backhanded insult and claim it's just a "sharpening filter", like they just ran the game through a Photoshop or GIMP Sharpen filter pass and called it a day.

Especially as a claimed professional tech analysis; you need to put some real effort into what you post considering a lot of people will eat up what you say as fact. Let's see if any of the mods or admin over there maybe tell him to watch his wording a bit more so that it's a bit more professional given his status. I bet you they won't.
 
Anybody get this it’s random when ever you manually save at a fire it freezes the game maybe it will last 30 sec or it will stay frozen causing you to reset the system cause the home button doesn’t work,I’ve just been quick saving and haven’t had that problem doing that.

Fucking hell, I finished the game Yesterday!!! I had to endure 50 hours at 30fps. I thought they'd never solve the shimmering issue.
