Days Gone coming to PC this Spring (More Sony games on the way)

This just signals good business sense to me there's alot of changes in the gaming world the landscape is getting bigger everyday Microsoft has expanded their scope considerably it's only natural that Sony follows suit else they will only get as big as they are now , 1st party exclusives going to pc after release date is nothing to cry about it's doubtfull exclusives will be on pc day one as to not water down the brand which is the best of both worlds really and another revenue stream for Sony .

There isn't one. It's the bleatings of the mentally ill. In a world where you are expected to hold down a job, go to school, raise families, and try to stay sane during a pandemic, it is a bizarre sight that there are supposed adults weeping because people they've never met will be able to buy games they already own three years after they bought them. It makes me think that atomic war isn't such a bad idea.

I think you have very little understanding of the situation. As a fan, you obviously care about the platform and the experiences that platform allows. Look at sports, people put a lot of emotional investment even if at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. Here is the same, I like the console experience and I want it to continue and a key part of that experience is exclusive software built only for that platform. However, it seems I'll have to switch a PC, as the design of the PS "Exclusives" themselves won't be made taken into account a single platform, rather it will be done for a wide range of configurations. It makes no sense to stay in the PS ecosystem if I can literally get a better experience by pushing some sliders to the right.

It actually makes me a bit nostalgic for the days of the PS2 where something like MGS2 couldn't be done on the PC due to the strengths of the platform. It's a bit sad to be honest, I'm actually going to look into building one, I just dislike the PC fanbase and the companies involved a lot.

So, just living up to the man child stereotype that we constantly get associated with then. Got it.

What about having to wait 2-3 years for the PC port, though? Is that a non-factor to you (honest question)?

Also, I am pretty sure HZD used all the strengths of the PS4/Pro at the time. The port on PC launched terribly, and while it steadily improved, I don't think it was quite as simple as just "pushing some sliders to the right."

I dunno, maybe I am wrong, but I like that PC gets ports of these exclusives, and given the wait required to play them on PC, I don't think it detracts from the initial console experience.

Death Stranding on PC looks stunning and runs wonderfully. I played it on my Pro. Does the PC version's optimizations (a year or so after the fact) really cheapen my console experience?

MGS 2 had a pc version actually, unless maybe there was some feature removed or something? I don't know anything about it, I was just surprised by what you said.

Hopefully this time the game is as optimized as Death Stranding. And please for the love of God don't make me load the shaders every time I start the game.

I don't think it's going to take that long, they started with the experiment of HZD and will have a shorter time to launch on PC going forward. In any case, I can wait, I barely ever pay full price for games.

I think going forward, HZD was a more difficult port as it seems the engine was tailored towards the PS4 hardware, but this will change going forward now that all the software will be coming to PC. It's not about detracting from the console experience per se, but rather that now they aren't offering anything especially made for their fanbase, you know what I mean? There's no point to keeping a PS5 as a PC will just offer you a better experience and the games will be made for a PC first and foremost, even first party ones.

I mean, perhaps with all the consolidation in terms of technology and companies, this type of mentality is long gone where a piece of hardware has such a particular design that it could do certain things so well that it outperformed everything else out there. Playing something like ZOE2 or MGS2 with the crazy amount of particles back then was incredible. Nowadays though, I suppose with all the similar hardware in there, having that mentality is not really possible, is it? At the end of the day, it's an AMD GPU and CPU stuffed in there with a few neat optimizations with miniscule differences between both consoles and PC. Convergence of technology.

I am not sure about the PC, but IIRC the Xbox port had to have heavily downgraded particle effects, which is something the PS2 really excelled at at the time. Perhaps I should have said that PS2 games had very defined strengths that even other platforms couldn't replicate.

Hell, the PS3 port of ZOE2 had performance issues at first, it was really neat what the PS2 could do. :)

Excellent news. Makes total sense from a business perspective. There are large, untapped markets especially in China and many emerging markets where console penetration is low vs. Sony's traditional markets but where PC penetration is high. Demand for quality Sony first party games are of course extremely high. Hardware expansion to these markets will be difficult as supply is already constrained as it is. Why not just port older titles and build up another revenue stream? Also note that profit margins from these revenue streams will also be high, as porting costs are relatively lower. This strategy can only lead to good things for Sony (as long as they don't get greedy and use the least cost porting houses leading to bad ports). Let's see how good Days Gone launch will be compared to HZD.

What would putting your game on PC have to do with it? Unless they didn't want to deal with a PC version?

Agreed. Why would he be mad? He is mad they are going to make more money or? Whats the issue exactly? I don't even know how much say or even extra money they even get from those versions to even care, they work FOR Sony. If anything I'd argue if they handled the port its extra money for them tbh.

lol well there goes any reason to buy a PS5. We are now getting PlayStation and Xbox games! I’ll just get a Switch and that’s me set!

hope they announce Bloodborne. That’s about the only game I miss from my PS4. I was gonna say Persona 5 Royal too but that’s not really Sony’s game.

Hmm, I wouldn't throw in the towel and say that all the games that would come out for PC are ones that are old and it would be a case by case basis. That's how I see it happening. I wouldn't jump to conclusions and think all new games be on PC just yet. Another thing I can see is that this is a make it or break it. Days Gone, is another way to see if it does good for them to think about them add more and more to PC. This is how it starts, that's how Microsoft started with adding their games on PC. It starts off piece by piece.

What time is it?
They are terrible and I feel suckered into buying them because the fanboys talked them up. Dropped them both quickly. Put the good ones on PC, Sony. BB, Ghost of Tshushima, and God of War, please.

About Tsushima, I've got bad news for you...

To be pefectly honest, as a PC gamer I could not care less anymore about further PS exclusives coming to PC. Why? Well, the answer is quite simple really...👇

There's absolutely no way all of them will cost so low and more likely the same as Horizon after price hike. So why on earth would I ever pay x2, x3 or x4 times more for a "privelage" to play PC version when I can buy (and already bought mind you) original PS4 versions and play them on PS5 with locked 60 FPS and maybe beyond with future updates etc.?

PC versions aren’t made for you, they’re made for those who might not have a console or for whatever reason haven’t played the original releases or those who weren’t satisfied with how they ran and looked on console and would gladly double dip for an improved version.

I’m running Horizon Zero Dawn at 80+ fps avg 150+ fps max on ultimate quality in 1080p on a 4 year old 1080ti. It’s a stellar upgrade even on such a PC. I enjoyed the game a lot on PS4 but double dipped to support this strategy and ended up enjoying it even more on PC.

And I haven’t even played Days Gone so this will be the perfect point for me to jump in, especially since I don’t have a PS5 so in my world this is still a 30fps game on console.

Usually you follow the leader but now Sony have decided to follow the loser..... morons!

Jim Ryan is incompetent at his job, he has no clue what made PS successful cause he was head of Europe where there was no competition for PS.

He is a clown and by the end of the generation he will have damaged the brand quite substantially.

glad you seen the light.

i been on this path since Phil took over.
truth is, if you look at all the developments under current, MS is potentially leading the way.

for 3 generations, have you seen a 'pro' upspec playstation like ps4p? guess who is following who back then?

Sony isn't following anything but money. People were in denial that Sony was going to go this route and plenty of signs were leading this to happen. They are just like any other business. Shit worked to a certain point, time to change it up.

Remember Demon Souls and FF16 trailers? Anyone still thinks the "Coming to PC" was a mistake? I bet we will see a DS port in 2022 and maybe a 1 year time exclusivity for FF16...
For sure.
But I also am interested how they would handle loading times on pc. Even with pcie 4.0, the IO on pc makes it no faster than normal ssd in games. Demon's souls loading in 2 seconds would not happen on pc unless nvidia finished their integration IO plans

If winning means huge costs and crashing, and playstation exclusives many years later, then I guess pc gamers win. You do get the best graphics though.....
I have both, great pc and consoles. Ps5 is such a simple, worry free thing to use (as ps4 was). I've bought pc for normal msrp prices last year and before but my buddy just finished building 3080 system.... He paid 4k usd for parts (and hp g2 vr).... yes. Gpu alone was over 2x more expensive than I've paid for 3080.
We are both very experienced pc users for 20 or more years but it was shit at first.
Msi x570 tomahawk needed uefi update or it would not boot. Just black screen. Thankfully it had the flash button you can do without posting. How are normal users suppose to know.
One of mp600 nvme drives was emptying itself...
Hp g2 would not detect each time on that msi x570 mobo...
Fan curves were terribly loud and jumpy by default eliminating all the wow factor on first few boots.
Each part required another software for rgb. One of which ran cpu in the ground at 1.45v all the time.
Hp g2 sweet spot sucks ass btw.

Anyway..he had to get asus x570 mobo to help with hp g2 usb issues.
He had to get mp600 replacement.
We ended building that pc 3 times.

Seriously. Fuck this

You can find Horizon for below 30 bucks. It's not like PC games have any price stability.

Not a fan of this idea.

Exclusivity, while perhaps reviled by some, has real value for a brand. Toying with intangible brand value like this is a risky game.
You want Sony to make more money and make more games?

Or you want playstation to make less money and bring you more exclusives?

Yup, it’s all about money. They’ve done PC+PS exclusives for some time now, they know how it works, they’re just doing it for their own games now. Once they realized that PC and PS isn’t really competitors it probably made little sense businesswise to not have that door opened.

PS fans are just acting strange here. Previously Xbox wasn’t needed because the Xbox exclusives was on PC. Then PS fans started crying about Bethesda being bought by MS even though we know all games comes to PC. And now PS fans are angry that PS exclusives are coming to PC.

Maybe if everyone realized that PC gaming and console gaming don’t have the exact same customers it all will make more sense. There is some overlapping within the core gamer group but outside of that bubble a PC version is most likely just another potential sale, and in some cases a double dip sale. And more money = thicker wallet for even better games in the future 👍

It’s funny because PC and and Nintendo get to slip up the cracks and win while the 2 fight it out in the trenches.

They see neither as a competitor and in the end they both win by doing essentially nothing.

Its fucking hilarious to watch from the side.

Will never understand the aversion some people have to a move like this...same with the Box

Nothing is lost...

Console loyalists still get their exclusive that takes advantage of the hardware...

P.C loyalists get to FINALLY see what the hubbub was about and at max settings with all the bell and whistles

The only real reason this seems to ruffle feathers is the BS console war crap... or other console diehard gamers to get in a tizzy and post another stupid "another one" gif...

The value of the PS5 and 4 hasn't changed at all, it's not like the PS library is going PC only...or somehow ceases to exist

To those whining Sony is losing it's brand by doing this, no they're not they're expanding it...you would need a powerful gaming setup to max out these games so enthusiasts are Sony's aim not casual PC users, and shocker folks...they don't have consoles anyway as they want 4K, 120 FPS, max settings etc and to achieve that you need an ever evolving architecture AKA P.C.

WE ARE GAMERS, bigger audiences mean better chances of the games we enjoy getting sequels, new entries or remakes...why not grow your base?

Some gamers think gaming is a zero sum game, where they only play on one platform.

So playing on a different platform suddenly means their home team just lost a teammate permanently.

It doesn’t help that one team was making fun of the other, only to watch their team make the same moves 2 years later.

It leaves them with egg on thier face.

Very similar to how if one said we are going to focus our games on all gamers, and the other said buy our next gen console of you want to play new games, and then at the 11th hour said just kidding, we love our old players too.

You fight for something for so long, and then the rules change, some people have trouble adapting.

And it’s not even losing a player half the time. Some PC gamers don’t even have a console. All they want to do is join the team as a fill in.

But the warriors have a pre requisite for joining. It’s not enough some people want to play ball paying a day fee, and bring their own gear. You also have to commit to paying for a uniform and only use the same shoes and bats as everyone else and you have to show up to every game. All or nothing.

another view is the snob view. It’s like if I like the maple leafs, only people in Ontario who go to games and buy jerseys can like them because we support them the most. So some random guy in Argentina who likes hockey can’t like the leafs because he’s not in the hockey ecosystem. Finding a hockey feed on some sports channel isn’t enough. Buying an outdated cap two years after we get it isn’t even allowed. Now if he wants to be a leafs fan he has to prove himself by buying gear and joining the ecosystem from day one.

I find great displeasure knowing someone likes the team but hasn’t spent as much as me supporting the team.
