NPD Sales Results for November 2015 [Up3: Combined Hardware For PS4 + XB1 + Wii U]

But if you do, you get eerily close to making "sense".

Steam and console digital sales are not going to count towards shipment figures...

Do you know for certain? A lot of companies include them. I don't think the jump from that initial 3M shipment number to 5M happened on the back of the non-existent legs that the game had after its first 2 weeks.

You can't compare video games objectively at all.
At least you can decently compare games that are within the same genre more than you can games that aren't. And this of course is usually based on how game mechanics work and if they facilitate helping or hurting the game's identity into a certain base genre, neverminding if it branches out from there.

It's much more logical to compare Tekken to Virtua Fighter than it is to compare it to Devil May Cry for example. And in terms of measuring a game subjectively, that holds even less weight, b/c in a lot of examples people are saying one game is absolutely better than another based on qualities that are mostly window dressing or show a clear bias for or against a given preference.

I know I'm mostly joking. Both games are great.
Yeah I figured as such, but some more suspecting might take it at face value and turn it into some epic debate using all kinds of science to factually prove what's basically an opinion x3.

Um, did Pokemon Snap end up outselling Super Smash Bros in NA?

December 1999 NPD will be interesting
Smash will have longer legs, it will outsell Snap. Snap was front loaded because the Pokémon phenomenon was beginning to sweep the nation.

Very interesting past sales. Can you add HW numbers for GEN/SNES PS1/N64 and Dreamcast please?

Hopefully they tell their story better. Guerrilla Games got way too cute in their chapter transitions in Killzone:Shadowfall and the story was just stilted and badly paced.

Game should be in good hands :

- John Gonzales (Lead Writer for Fallout: New Vegas) and dialog writer who previously worked on Shadow of Mordor ( Nemesis system ) joined the writing team ( https://nl.linkedin.com/in/johnrgonzalez )
- They hired CD Projekt Red quest designers and other experienced RPG developers
- Lead cinematic artist/cinematic director of The Witcher 3
- A freelance writer from Blizzard joined the GG
- A game designer who worked on Elder Scrolls Online joined the GG
- And several creature artists and game designers who worked on Medieval RPGs
- in size and scope it will be comparable to Witcher 3

I didn't think I Gould get more hyped, but there you have it.

Now this and Cyberpunk are my most anticipated games.

Do we know what the average retail vs digial split is on wii u vs the other consoles? It would be interesting to see if its higher or lower than the 20% that sony and microsoft average.

Splatoon would be an outlier regardless as digital promotions existed with the testfires, and the game is like 2GBs.

Sega was a beast at Christmas season advertising.

But the thing w/ DKC was that its effect didn't really begin to kick in until 1995, right? That's when it began regularly outselling Genesis in NA iirc.

Still tho, its steady sales just show how foolish it was for Sega to officially discontinue Genesis then; it had a hell of a strong line up in 1995.

We need a gif of Mario pumping some dumbbells.

Bloodborne has been $20. Splatoon being $35 wouldn't be a reason for it to rocket ahead. Mind you, I bet Bloodborne is actually ahead after digital. It has always crushed it on the PSN store.
True indeed...just pointing out it did have sales, I've got one!

Big mistake from Sega, especially with the disaster that Saturn was, they couldn't afford to give up the profits coming from Genesis.

Sega as a hardware company made way too many mistakes. It's such a shame they had to pull out of manufacturing hardware, but some decisions just did not make sense.

Are there any examples of games labeled with 5 (e.g. Halo 5, MGSV) that weren't massive disappointments compared to their predecessors besides Rockstar's game? Assassin's Creed has done everything to avoid this number for a reason.

I imagine it especially hurts story-focused games because people don't feel comfortable hopping in at the end.

An outlier for the Wii U, certainly. But probably not enough to sell more copies digitally than Bloodborne.

Why? I see no basis for this claim. If it can outsell it at retail (with a RP of 15$ more, minimum) to a smaller consumer base, it can outsell it digitally all the same given it has also been on discount and the game is tiny so the WiiU's usual space hurdle is a non-issue. Price differences have apparently not been a factor in Splatoon's eventual move to outsell Bloodborne (though they likely greatly impacted the speed of such an event).

I don't think there exists any indicator to say with certainty that Bloodborne has digitally outsold Splatoon. On the contrary, I'd say there exists extrapolated reason to believe it may in fact have been outsold by Splatoon in digital as well but that is neither here or there to NPD numbers. The fact that Splatoon has had digital promotions and a very small footprint was only a statement to suggest that (whatever baseline WiiU titles enjoy for digital) Splatoon is likely an outlier to baseline-% of WiiU titles (to which was my response).

Splatoon has shown to have fantastic legs (and in spite of its predicament of being saddled with a failed console), probably right up there with the legs of the original Dark Souls if we're to be comparing a third-person inking to a souls title.

wii u's lamentable internal storage probably turns most regular folk off of downloading stuff.

But Wii U's plug and play external storage capabilities turn a lot of people on to downloading stuff, while PS4's lack of external storage turns a lot of PS4 users off of downloading.

This game. It's easy to play.

Was Kalinske the man behind the strategy of the Saturn's surprise and limited launch in US?

Sega Japan forced the launch on him.

I don't think Kalinske ever even wanted to release the Saturn. He was trying to merge Sega with Sony instead but Sega Japan didn't want that.
