Sounds more like they implemented Ray-tracing last minute to last gen engine.
Couldn't be arsed with actual programming for consoles and PC they can brute force it and have a coke and smile.
Fuck optimization

If I'm not mistaken Insomniac are mostly just doing low resolution ultra low LOD reflections and even then are having to pare back density and render resolution to get it running. That doesn't really say or mean anything for developers wanting to use multiple or more costly effects. Metro is probably the best example of console RT, but it's a last gen port and runs near 1080p most of the time to pull it off. Games targeting any semblance of next-gen asset or density aren't going to have the overhead to use much if any RT without significant sacrifices to resolution and frame rate. Which is a trade off (rightly so) that most developers aren't going to take.
Yes you are mistaken. Maybe you means Watch Dogs Legion on console. Nsomniac games is an another level and probably the best raytracing reflections implementation on console.

I mean... I have a PS5 & PC but he's not lying, these consoles are weaker than a RTX 30 series.

Say console are not capable to have better raytracing than Far Cry 6 is definitely an huge bullshit. Fact my balls, it's pure trolling if I can say.

Get an RTX 3070/3080 and you will become a living god. No fanboy of xbox or ps will stand against the true might of PC GAMING.

/s

lmao anyway, it's still true. true raytracing at 60fps will become standard when PS5 pro and Xbox Series Z release. Until then, they are gonna have to sacrifice a lot of stuff, unfortunately.

Not sure what you mean for true raytracing (if you mean full raytracing well it's literally impossible on pc too cause it's too expensive there also) anyway I would bet whatever you want console are definitely more capable than what Far Cry 6 shows on pc. Otherwise game like RE8 wouldn't exist on console. Sure reflections are very low resolution (though neither on pc raytracing effects are full resolution most of the times) but achieve lightings and raytracing reflections at the same time at the first tries with such fps, it's encouraging.

Instead to blame the article let’s make first a small question:

FarCry 6 will run with RT enabled on RX 6700 or RTX 2600? I tried to find the specs but they listed the 1440p + RT and forget 1080p + RT.

Who the fuck cares if they can or not. Developers are very good in faking these things without wasting lots of resources on raytracing. I‘m sure 90% of gamers can’t even differentiate raytraced reflections from SSR, a lot of times proved here on gaf as well.

Can we just agree on three things and move on?

1) The best PC GPUs have better RT capabilities than XSX and PS5 with a large margin
2) The RT in FC6 that have been shown so far can clearly be done on consoles (with proper coding)
3) The largest gap in RT implementation is on software optimisation and not hardware - the software algorithms in current engines are plain poor and RT is often simply brute forced

ya, they will never be as good as PC but consoles do have rtx, its just such a waste of resources too. insomniac has the best implementation.

Well that's where I don't agree at all. I think we haven't already seen what's the limits of console in raytracing. If I'm not wrong Direct X are quite substandard to achieve optimal raytracing performance cause virtual coding. Probably for now only ps5 can push more raytracing thanks to the low API access but seems no one is capable to push it without using the unfortunate virtual code approach outside a particular Sony studios.

Is it though? GT7 will not have any RT too on gameplay. Or FH5. Both cross gen...

Man I haven't heard about Tom's Hardware in like 10 years. Totally forgot about them tbh. It also surprises me every time when I'm reminded that Ebaum's World is still a thing.

Doom Eternal has raytracing on XSX, PS5 and PC Vulkan. XSX's Doom Eternal RT beats PS5's.

even mid range PC RDNA2 cards are more powerful in terms of rasterization and RT performance, and RTX30 cards are a whole level above that.
the RTX3080 wipes the floor with the consoles in any category. even the RTX3060ti beats them in basically every way, that includes raytracing performance.

the issue largely being that the consoles don't have even remotely as many ray intersection cores as high end RDNA2 cards, and again, RTX cards are even a level above that with specialized hardware.

PC cards can run Minecraft RTX at 4K60fps, even the Series X can only dream of reaching even 1/4 of that

RE8 is open world like far cry 6 is? nope.

The reason why ubisoft even goes for hybrid RT with mix of settings is because even top RDNA2 cards on PC which are a metric ton faster then fastest console can't run RT for shit and the game is most likely sponsored by AMD which means they will have to cut it in pieces.

Ehh it’s still too early to make such assumptions as RT is still being tacked into engines and not fully implemented and optimized into those engines.

While you always can get a more powerful pc than a console, no one can deny that Ray tracing technology is at a point where the performance drop aren't worth the setting.

Yes it looks very good but the trade off in performance is too great to make it worth it.

Who cares. It's clear amd rDNA 2 isn't great for raytracing (I have the 6800 and PS5). Just enjoy the games, I couldn't care less as long as it's 60fps. Wait for pro models with rDNA 3. If you really care get and Nvidia card.

I believed this nonsense until I saw R&C Rift Apart.... an experience that sounds like quite a few people had.

It absolutely can be done incredibly well.... if the right people are doing it.

Ubisoft are not those people.

Nah Ubisoft devs are fine, but not all devs are the same.

Watch Dogs launched last year with RT reflections and looked stunning on consoles.

Avatar is using RT everywhere. Even for foliage. It's just a matter of effort. Some devs just dont have the time or resources to add RT to every game.

It's just Ubi being Ubi.

Their games are always unoptimized on PC and are resources hogs. Not surprised in the slightest they could work out an RT mode for consoles.

No. It just proves Ubisoft is incompetent and just did a rushed port of the last Gen version.

Watch Dogs uses on consoles only "short range" RT. Everything in the distance is more or less a mix of SSR & cubemaps. Only reflections near you are RT based.
And those RT reflections are also really low-res.

But yes, still looks good.
Spiderman on PS5 (as good as it looks) is also just low-res & lower-lod, short-distance RT with checkerboard-upscaling. Stills looks great, but don't expect much more of it.

Or they would not be fucked to implement it.

And the journalism

Also Ubisoft just can't keep up with superior Slavic technology

So tell me more

Also let's wait how the RDNA 2 card will perform at this title, because without DLSS...
Yeah, Metro Exodus showed that it is possible.

If they sacrificed performance for resolution, it could easily run at least at 1440p. But they wanted the game at 60 fps, so it ran almost at 1080p. Which is fine.

I'll take the next gen version of Cyberpunk, for example, at 1080p with full on ray tracing instead of 4k with none at all.

In other words: Metro showed them that yes, you can have the full RT package if developers want so.

Well, WD Legions raytracing is awful on console. The LOD is ridicolous low, ps2 level I'm not joke.

They normally are full resolution on pc, it's why dlss improves performance so much in RT. It's actually something we need to see as an option on pc become standard, being able to set RT effects to 1/2 and 1/4 resolution would be very useful.

I'm quite confident both consoles can do RT for Far Cry 6, but it would likely come with a rather large reduction in resolution. Not sure if the trade off will be worth it. They could have least made a RT mode for those that want it though.

Yah thats why the PC version is going to be better since the PC will also have DXR Reflections & Shadows, Fidelity FX (FSR, CAS), unlocked FPS, ultrawide screen, and adjustable FOV

And you're still playing console games. Lol. I was a fan when there was a reason for staying: RTS, point & click adventures, first mmorpgs. I don't need all that to end up playing another ugly but bumped up Sony game on it. Give me a nice game at 60 fps on ps5 or xboxseriesx and you have me happy. For proper RT I go on pornhub anyway, if you know what I mean... it always comes down to what you like to fap on in the end.

its performing beyond console’s limitation on PC. Why will it be a console game? Games are games on PC

I can't really. Only way I tell is if I walk past a mirror or a window and see my own reflection. Then I figure there is raytracing?

What I can absolutely notice though is 30 fps vs 60 fps vs 120 fps. Gimme dem frames!

Not always. Doom with RT looks great and runs great.
