You get a chance to play it? What'd you think?
I played it three times, twice the same starting point on the map (which incidentally is the one shown in the video -- was playing as "LuckyLou102" both times). The other one had you swim out to the ship.
Coordinating the ship activities, managing the sails, dropping the anchor for "hand break" turns, being the lookout up in the eagle's nest, repairing and shooting the cannons and such was great -- unless you were stuck manning the wheel. That was quite boring, you couldn't see anything due to the sails being in the way. Of course nothing forces
you to stick to any one task but for one of the demos I did.
It's clear you need a competent team communicating to really make the game work. One of the times I was playing with 4 Rare developers on my own team, which unsurprisingly was the funniest session.
The demo only really showed what it was like manning the ship -- which was mostly really fun and played well, if a bit simplistic. You couldn't tell anything about the game play loop or progression outside of this particular aspect though (do you scavenge for upgrades? gear? musical instruments? how big/seamless is the world? etc.)
