Meta GAF |ON| Gaf on Gaf

is nothing compared to what I’ve had slung my way.

Yeah I like all kinds of games. I only seriously got into shmups around 2016/2017. I was led to them by my love for fighting games, vs puzzle games, and rhythm games, and love of arcade games in general. I'm playing fewer and fewer narrative-driven games. I just don't feel the payoff like I used to.
Once again you have touched on a reason why I love playing for high-score: it is asynchronous multiplayer (assuming everyone is being honest) and there are no limits. I love seeing myself climb my own private leaderboard while also seeing how I compare to others. Certain shmups, puzzle games, and fighting games even offer "spectator mode" and replay modes to help you learn from these superior players. I love seeing how someone uses a move or handles a certain problem. Add in all the guides and YouTube video tutorials to learn even more about high-level play. It truly is a magical time we're living in for that high-score chasing life. I believe this type of gaming subcommunity is on the rise as modern gamers want the "community" and "competition" of multiplayer but without the vindictive hypercompetitiveness. Arcade serves that niche perfectly.

You forgot about this one:

Always going back to working the tip. This hamster is so magical.

@SLoWMoTIoN also bat tops and octagonal gates are always dope.

Jesus. Fuck. Now I remember why I hate this place.

I try to play any game that doesn't need dual analog with an arcade stick, personally. Side-scrolling platformers and metroidvanias, puzzle games, shmups, fighting games, arcade games (obviously), old 16-32 bit sports games, etc. Sticks are so comfy compared to normal controllers, especially for longer play sessions. But most people don't get them for comfort, they get them because "you need one if you're playing such-and-such genre" and then don't use em for anything else. Sad state of affairs.

Please post more in this thread.

also won an mlg stick at a local tournament (sfiv)

When people started talking videogames is when MetaGAF On Gaf OT died, and I have been a guilty participant in that.

Fuck.

Now that I know you're a SFIV legend. My lve for you has intensified 10x.
team also won the neogaf tournament

i had to bounce early for work and such, Rentahamster Rentahamster carried us through the finish line

Oh fuck. We must have played some sets then. I didn't join that GAF tournament but I was super active with the GAF SFIV scene. I mained Akuma back then.

i think renta and friends won some fancy madcatz sticks in the tourney, recall of that timeline is hazy

I remember being super hyped when Renta beat Arturo.

I'm feeling generous my fellow bozos. Who wants gold? Just guess one of my favorite sports games. Might be tough at first but ill drop hints. In story mode the team is led by Sam. My two other favorite teammates are Randy and Bill. What game am I talking about?

HELD BACK IS A MEME... I was thinking it through and while I've told people "yes, I'm concerned about how Horizon Forbidden West turns out" I have also multiple times made it clear I'm hopeful Halo Infinite comes out better from the other end of this delay... but... how can I be hopeful for Halo Infinite if my alleged "narrative" is cross-gen games are held back?

I will admit defeat if...

1. Horizon Forbidden West is downgrade from the first trailer
2. Halo Infinite doesn't come out the other end of its delay looking great
3. Halo Infinite's prior gen version is dropped
4. Horizon Forbidden West on PS4 is an entirely different version made separate to the PS5 one
5. The games of 2022 (when we can be assured cross-gen on PS5 is over) look a whole hell of a lot better

That was a non-sequitur, lol.

I think the Sony games, if those are what we can expect, seem to point at doing cross-gen ‘the right way’. They’re actually some of the most impressive looking games I’ve ever seen — Horizon 2 looks better than exclusive Souls.

Still hard not to be disappointed, though. Games will be held back, and often by the same pathetic CPU that’s held this generation back. That means games that could look brilliant, but act exactly the same, limited in the same ways. Most major publishers and developers are bereft enough in creativity — they don’t need help.

I get the business side, but more and more of an argument is being made for waiting a year or two into a console, to have the real next-gen experience all around.

Hmm its hard for me...never was much fan of Snes at time. I was a Mega Drive player.
Does it has anything to do with Tiny Toons?
No tiny toons. You play against different countries. each time u play a different country the background will represent that and the music to match.

I'm thinking I need to do a kill everything run of Fallout New Vegas... here's the question...

Do I do the level up exploit so I can be max level, then go do all the casinos, buy amazing guns like anti-material rifle, etc. and THEN start killing because it's way funnier to blow people away with explosive shells of an anti-material rifle... or do I do it the hard way and try to do it from the start (I have the courier's stash DLC so it's not THAT much harder)? Maybe both? Sorry, my addiction continues. It's weird getting into arguments about next-gen while you're still glued to a game from 2010.

Wow thats hard. Could be a basketball game? Nothing comes to mind though, as I said I'm not familiar with Snes games.
