This is nothing but scummy asshole behaviour regardless of who does it. It was bullshit when Microsoft did it with Tomb Raider, and it will be bullshit if these are true.

Fuck Sony, this only hurts the xbox gamers who have been playing cod or whatever on their platform of choice for years.

The only exclusives I'm okay with are first party exclusives and games that wouldn't even exist unless funded by first party.
Dont bitch at sony bitch at MS whose treating you like sloppy seconds. MS has just as much money to throw around of they want to. Tell them to, if they dont someone like sony sure will

I am wrong? What makes a third party game better because it is exclusived or timed for Sony?

You are comparing first party games, which is paid and developed by Sonys devs, to third party games, made by third party devs, which gets a truckload of money of cutting other platforms out. You really don't see the difference?

Didn't know there were people here on Gaf that loved the timed tomb raider exclusive on Xbox One. Or is it only anti consumer when it's not about Sony?

The problem is you have the same mind set as Sony - not to enhance gaming and first party exclusives, but to destroy gaming for anyone else. You are legit supporting Sony to destroy gaming on non Sony platforms.

Have fun when Sony kills Microsoft, and they can charge whatever they want on hardware and 100 euro on games. I assure you, if Sony had monopoly, they wouldn't think twice about fucking you over, just like any other company.

Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo are not your friend. Your favorite piece of plastic is not God. They are companies that want your money, and they don't give a fuck about the rest.
Ohhh sony is deff my friend. They want me to spend the money and they go out and spend their own money to lockdoen content for me as a purchaser of their console. Why fly coach when I can fly first class and be treated better and get perks?

Guys. If this is legitimate, I’m kind of leaning towards Elder Scrolls 6. Maybe, maybe there is something going on with COD because have you noticed all of the free recent COD games lately? Free2Play COD, WW2 COD, COD:MW1 and COD:MW2 on PS Plus? Coincidence? Don’t remember what happened with COD DLC recently. Resident Evil 8? Silent Hill? Maybe Metal Gear? Really, really doubt this, but GTA6???

In truth the PS5 looks like a more expensive console to produce than Series X, but Sony has been a hardware pioneer for so long, they have the deals and better hardware rapport with most of these HW manufacturers.....Being in hardware and producing so many great TV's, image sensors and the like, they are in a position to get deals others can't.........Despite the PS5 being more ambitious in terms of custom hardware, the SSD, the controller, hookup for VR, ports and features. I think they will still come to market at least Matching Series X's price at the worse....

I still think a $399 Series X is a pipe dream though........This was the same MS that released a an upclocked Jaguar with a 580 downclocked with no advanced custom features in late 2017 at $500.......
While the DualSense controller is most certainly more expensive with a built-in battery, touchscreen, and other added functionality, the console might cheaper to manufacture if the APU is designed with chiplets.

I on the other hand think that ps5 will be sold out anyway for the first year or two. with the numbers that we've heard they are producing, I'm willing to bet on that.
so that leaves the possibility that such rumors serve mainly in order to keep the fanbase pumped up and "focused on the narrative" and not pay attention to anything else
No. It won't be. 10 million units ready for launch. Even if all of that is sold-out within the first 2 months, more will be on the way. At most supply may be constraints for up to 6 months.

Why does it seem like in these threads Sony are always the bad guys but never the developers or publishers making these deals with them. If what Sony is doing is anti-consumer then surely the company agreeing to such a deal is also being anti-consumer. But you have to ask yourself why they would make such a deal. If they're giving either timed or full exclusivity theyve made a calculated decision that whatever money Sony is offering them is more appealing than having a whole other install base have access to the game. and there are very clear reasons why this happens look at the kind of games that got epic game store exclusivity on PC games like Control which were not guaranteed to be a hit and didn't end up being a hit. it's tough to get new IP is recognized by gamers sometimes even existing ones it can be tough to get them to invest in in these deals can be very lucrative developers or publishers that feel like they're in a risky spot with their intellectual properties. There are also cases where the money isn't there to even make the game in the first place without these deals. If their timed they only really matter for a certain amount of time how many people care today that games like Dead rising and Bioshock in Mass effect were timed exclusives for the 360? No one really gives a s*** anymore or even talks about it. But that's the thing with gamers theyre so obsessed with living in the current moment whatever happens now is what matters which means forgetting past transgressions and also means blowing up the impact of current ones.

A lot of timed exclusive deals could have a few interesting effects.

It would probably cement the PS5 and its custom features as the benchmark for the next generation, encouraging a clean cut from the older architecture and its compromises. It could also push a quicker adoption of new technology in the PC space. Perhaps we will see PC architecture (and other devices) adopt changes to its I/O system in order to catch up while keeping costs down? Or perhaps it will become common to compensate for poor I/O performance with a much larger pool of main memory? RDNA 3 probably won’t hit the market until at least 2022.

Exclusivity deals could help share the burden of marketing, while keeping development headaches down to a minimum. Then later, if the business warrants the effort, more platforms would be supported. And of course, PS5 sales could go through the roof, setting historic records.

Sony is taking their Playstation business far more seriously than Microsoft with their Xbox division. While Sony simply can not afford major missteps, colossal screwups seem to come naturally for Microsoft (RROD, Windows CE/Phone, Xbox One & Kinect). Launching a new Xbox into the next generation without first party next generation software is a case in point. It just boggles the mind, and I still cannot believe this is actually happening. This could end up being one of the biggest business blunders in video game history.

PS5 won't be chiplet based, but a PS5 PRO will be though.....

The problem is, if sony does it microsoft will do it and then u won't get all these perks because microsoft will lock the software behind there box again. U are back to buying all consoles all over again even while the current console could play the game without issue's perfectly fine.

That’s interesting. What makes you think that? Rumors for the past few years have been hinting at this. And yes, I am aware of the potential of chiplets for an hypothetical Pro model.

GPU cache coherency seems to be a good match for Infinity Fabric, the communication infrastructure underlying AMD’s chiplet technology. It also seems that Sony is seeing high yields for their APUs, which might be another clue.

A custom chiplet based CPU+GPU would be interesting though, so I guess we will see what they show in the teardown. My take on the PS5-PRO is as a result of the PS4 PRO. two gpu chiplets 36 CU's each......

meh, will still be getting the XSX. Also COD/GTA is not going exclusive, like lets live in reality here. Maybe some stupid DLC garbage but I doubt anything more.

Even xbox insiders have talked about this that sony is getting timed and exclusivity deals.

I'm fine with that its called business, hell if microsoft did that they'd actually give my incentive to want to buy their console because right now that ain't for me chief

Too much smoke, folks. Pretty sure Sony has busted out the checkbook in a big way this time from the sounds of it all.

Question is--is Gamepass really that reviled amongst the publisher/developer circle? Is it really loathed enough that you'd bequeath your biggest AAA titles to one console rather than multiplat it?
What do musicians think of Spotify and Apple Music?

Din't flinch when MS does it, why would i care if my platform of choice does it?
People get their panties in a bunch so much about exclusivity deals and it's being going on since the industry exists...if it's timed, wait the time...if it isn't, buy the platform or don't play it.

Sounds like Cod. It can go either way. Certain people shifting to ps5 or certain people shifting to Cod alternatives. I think latter is a higher probability.
If Xbox leads in sales in US, damage to the activision brand will be huge.

They already had DLC / content exclusivity for those... so that isn't even something worth talking about. Nobody would fuss about that.

A long haul flight from wherever you are.
Actually, yes I do.

For those volumes to his the market you need to be able to store a certain amount of units. But in no way ever will there be 10 million units just sitting anywhere waiting for launch day. There will be a day one buffer and after that the production and supply chain must flow like a river. 90% of storage will be at retail distribution centers or in transit.

I think the idea is that the PS5’s APU would be composed of a number of chiplets: CPU, GPU, I/O, maybe something else. The Pro would be an evolution of the PS5, saving on design costs; the basic components re-assembled like Legos for a more powerful machine.

Anyway, I agree with you that we will need to wait until the teardown makes it all official. Until then, here are a couple of interesting articles:

[Jim Keller] explains that the fabric would allow AMD to employ a “chiplet” approach to design. Instead of building one processor on a single die AMD could package a series of processors together—connecting them via the Infinity Fabric system bus. This would make the CPUs way cheaper to produce and ideally as fast as a CPU, like AMD’s previous CPUs and most of the ones from Intel, that included all the cores on a one die.
And this packaging also meant AMD was designing a very different kind of CPU from its competitor, with a different, and according to AMD, much more efficient methodology. “We came up with a very regular structure for it,” Joe Macri told Gizmodo. “We basically had a data point and a control point and everybody that bolted into [Infinity Fabric] bolted into it the same way.”

Macri claims Infinity Fabric actually sped up design of the processors across the board. The modular design it gave the Zen architecture meant AMD didn’t need to reinvent the wheel for every kind of CPU. “One of the biggest challenges in designing a core is actually validating it,” Macri said. And thanks to Infinity Fabric AMD could quickly validate, or confirm the operation of, a whole slew of slightly varied designs ranging across their entire offering of Zen processors.

Think of Infinity Fabric as the little snaps in Lego blocks and all the components of a CPU as the blocks themselves. AMD could take a few blocks to build a desktop CPU, or tack on more to create a big multi-core server processor, or snap on a GPU to make a wicked fast chip intended for laptops.

Despite claims to the contrary, gamepass as the Xbox prominent feature will cannibalise a la carte sales on the platform, it’s logical. Like going to an all you can eat and then buying off the menu, the odds reduced.

This seemingly will create a flood of 3rd parties singing to Sony’s tune for mutual benefit.

Gamepass.... Gamepass... Gamepass...

Timed exclusive shit is fuckin' gay.

(I'm half gay so I can use that word that way. Fuck it, anyone can when it fits!)

Seriously though it is such a pointless, petty practice. If the game is multiplat then let it be a fuckin' multiplat.

Just holding back a game from someone else who may want it and making them wait is weak as fuck.
So...wait...if it’s IT fits, it’s gay? So because I FIT I’m gay? Oh no. I gots the gay mama...

People were excited at the possibility of MS buying WB games and Take-Two to make exclusive games for the Xbox platform and now they're mad at Sony for money hatting?
I’d rather MS buy WB than sony because at least then games would be on PC as well as Xbox.

I’d prefer a third party publisher like EA/Acti/Ubi buy them though.

Fanboys for Ms want Ms to buy exclusives. Fanboys for Sony want Sony to buy exclusives. Everyone else wants zero third party moneyhatted exclusives.

The excitement is to keep the race remotely competitive. Also there is a big difference between buying studios than wasteful timed exclusives. I'd rather see more insomniac deals for Sony than wasteful timed exclusives. Sony has great studios so more of them the better. Give me a ghosts of tsushima over a timed exclusive.

It's anti consumerism to take away games from other platforms. They were focusing on Playstation already, Sony just pays them for not focusing on others but only theirs.

If you can't see that as anti consumerism, then you are a fanboy.
Maybe MS is making this a little easier for Sony to acquire, as im wondering if they're pushing for exclusivity also, so it can go on gamepass. Its a lesser of 2 evils, but the silver lining is devs going the Sony route won't get held back by the old technology.

You sure about that? Xbox Series X has barely any high-profile first-party games for 2021 - as Avowed, Forza Motorsport, Everwild, State of Decay 3 or Fable are early in development or still years away.

With that in mind, let's say that Sony has yet to reveal that they've moneyhatted AAA third-party games such as, for instance, Beyond: Good & Evil 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Battlefield 6 and Batman: Gotham Knights; don't you think that such move would hurt the Series X in a really big way? And that's without mentioning the exclusive content in GTA Online, Red Dead Online, Marvel's Avengers, Call of Duty, etc; or already announced timed exclusives like Ghostwire Tokyo and japanese games that will launch first on PlayStation regardless of if there's a deal with them or not.

When I just said how I dislike third part exclusives like this, how would Microsoft buying more third party exclusives make anything better? Two wrongs make a right? Microsoft has done the better thing imo(long term at least). They've expanded their first party studios enormously, and will end up with a ton of new first party ip.

That's far better than moneyhatting a title here, a title there just to lock sole gamers out of their favorite series.

Regarding GTA VI and Elder Scrolls VI that won't happen, at least for now, as the rumors are pointing towards Sony moneyhatting third-party games launching during the next fiscal year, not in 2024. But still, they already have a marketing and exclusivity deal with Rockstar for GTA V/GTA Online on the PS5 and even if it's too early for Elder Scrolls VI, we don't know what's going to happen with Starfield - so that's another possibility.

Also, Resident Evil 8 cannot be one of the games (as it's already confirmed to be a multiplatform release), neither can Silent Hill (the game would be a first-party title) or Metal Gear (confirmed to not have any game currently in development according to the SH leakers).

In Microsoft last show, almost every thirdparty game were a timed exclusive, including modes in existing ps4 games...how is that better? or are you being dishonest?

I said in my original post it was bullshit when MS bought Tomb Raider. I dislike third party exclusives like this, period.

But yeah, GTA and COD are definitely worse. Why? Because they're huge series associated with multiplatform and affects far more people who might not have the right console, than some relatively niche game.

Before you get any ideas, yes, ot would be just as bad if it was the other way around.

Convenient amnesia when it comes to these topics. Or another favorite, "its different because reasons". Totally silent after Xbox announced console timed exclusives, Sony announced here comes the bad for the industry hot takes. Their come backs are intellectually dishonest and predictable.

I remember when Tomb Raider was announced as xbox exclusive on here and MS was blasted for it. This should be no different.
I think this is disingenuous, no offense.

At least part of the stink over ROTR exclusitivity was that TR was considered a PS-associated franchise and had just had a successful reboot game, which if I recall correctly sold best on PS.

You can't even compare COD to ROTR, since Sony now has the marketing association with COD since beginning of last gen. Not sure on Destiny, as Halo IP stayed with XB.

Maybe you could draw the comparison to PS1 snagging Final Fantasy series, but that was down to Nintendo's stubbornness of sticking to cartridges and bossing companies about, so even that is not a fully apt comparison.

So its alright for Xbox, long as its games nobody cares about?
