Gran Turismo 6 • Coming on PS3 Holiday 2013

Busted out my PS3 for the first time since I've moved into my new place, waited an eternity for the game to install, (I've gotten a new PS3 since the last time I played GT5) hopped into my Supra and headed straight for the Ring.

It just isn't the same without a wheel. :(

The controller just flat out sucks when trying to play GT.

Did anyone ask Kaz why the career mode sucks so much and how he intends to improve it in GT6, with a real progression system and that sort of thing?

Would be nice to have a bit of variety in terms of starts. Why running start for everything? Also why doesn't GT or Forza let you do qualifying, if you're going for simulation and authenticity I fail to see why this is overlooked. Make it an optional difficulty level so people that don't want to do it can skip and reward those that qualify with credits and starting position.

Less homicidal AI would also be nice, again a problem with both GT and Forza, if I'm lapping several seconds faster yield and let me pass having them ram into me kind of ruins the immersion.

Left analog for steering right analog for manual gearbox, Gas pedals (L2R2) for gas/brake and you can easily play without wheell with all assists off.

But i agree GT without whell is not same game.

There's no way the lighting will be "downgraded" from GT5. Clearly some of the released shots show improved and some...different, we dont know the conditions these we're taken in. I'm confident when more material surfaces (E3 i guess) everything will become clear. On the whole i'm happy with whats currently been announce and really cant wait so see what the bigger picture will show. I'm sure there's a great number of things they're keeping under wraps for now.

With all due respect, did you read the part where I stated that PD are listening?

People are in absolute uproar that Grid doesn't feature a cockpit view. But it's fine that the majority of cars in GT don't either?
People would absolutely destroy any other game that featured such inconsistency, but it's fine that PD do it?

I'm not asking them to tailor the game just to my liking. This standard/premium divide is a major talking point all across the net. So is the audio. So is the career mode.

All I am asking for, is consistency and focus. I'm not demanding from or belittling PD in anyway. I'm sure when Turn 10 announces FM5, my opinions, wishes and critiques will be relayed in the same way as I have been doing for GT/PD.
Sometimes, my passion for racing games gets the better of me. Sometimes, I might sound like a whiny bitch, but I can assure you, it only stems from my wanting my favourite games to be the best they possibly can.
I'm sure i'm not alone in this regard...

Apologies, I manged to miss out a few words, I meant to type, "Not having a go at you specifically" but I'm still half asleep.

My comment was meant to be more general, pointing out that people are assuming that because they haven't done something as they would personally do it, it means they are ignoring all the feedback, when in reality they are filtering the feedback they've recieved through the filter of what they think is most important and what it is possible for them to achieve given the time/technology/software legacy available to them.

It'll be interesting to see what PD have in store at E3. Kas has been saying "change" for GT6.
Obviously, we don't completely know what that change entails.

I also wonder if "The human element" is still part of this change..?

I've always suspected it's because it would be so easy to qualify first, and then you'd just leave the rest of the field behind in the race, it would basically be like time trialling however many laps. Basically it's to hide the poor quality of the AI.

Please give me a garage I can walk around, that optionally upgrades depending how many cars I have. I want to look across an airplane hangar and see hundreds of cars, or just walk through a showroom and look at my favourite ten or so.

GT5 had standing starts for a while, but they changed them all to rolling starts to get a better performance, I guess.

I used to hate rolling starts but I've come to enjoy them through playing GT5 so much. Definitely would like to see standing start return in the sequel, even if it means a smaller grid for those races.

The in-game lighting still looks very similar to GT5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbwbxBeqL6Q

mm, no.
plus palette doesn't look right, this track's greens and reds look like forza 3.
it looks like they had to use a simpler lighting solution on cars, much less convincing ambient light, where the side of the car not directly lit by the sun almost becomes black, very similar to forza.
sacrifices had to be made for those soft shadows, it also looks like self shadowing now ignores smaller car parts.
I hope ps4 version is indeed coming

I never did like the colour platette of GT5. GT6 looks worse in that regard. Look how bright the grass is in the GT6 vid. It looks oversaturated.

I really liked the look of GT4. Hell, GT3 looked beautiful too.

BS. It's just time of day coupled with a TV set to dynamic mode. Eg obtuse colours. They've actually improved the lightning engine according to Kaz. The new rendering has 50 times more dynamic range.

There's nothing wrong about rolling starts, but they don't make sense for every single race.

Okay I made a "Standard Cars that I wouldn't mind seeing as Premium Cars" list like Mush. It's kind of long.

Not entirely true. You can access the garage by pressing square while you're browsing events or whatever. And if you check the race limitations, it'll show you the garage with all your eligible cars.

You can buy all upgrades now from the settings menu too, so there's really not much menu hopping anymore.

Yes but in practice mode you cannot change your car unless you go all the way back. Plus even in the events screens there are problems with the garage.

For example if you click on the garage button in an event ticket you get your whole garage, but if you click on garage in the race limitations tab you get a filtered version of you garage which shows only the cars you have which you can use at the race. Why are there two versions of the garage in the event ticket? Surely the filtered one would be enough but that is the one they hide away.

It's just bad.

I agree it's bad, but I think they should make the filtered one go away, since often I want to use a car that is too powerful at that time that needs detuning or something.

DAT real-time HDR light bouncing with surfacing, diffuse scattering and different light temperature at Alfa and Audi headlamps.

I be damned. They are crazy 100% confirmed.

Can't wait for the game to arrive. I hope my funds for the new Panny will be ready.

Indeed fellow GAFfer, now I just need to wait and meanwhile keep checking my wallet to see if everything is controlled.

GAF's Bob Woodward
Sky News has an interesting article up...not sure if it was already posted? Not sure also if the info contained is old hat to close GT watchers, but I found it interesting stuff anyway.

http://news.sky.com/story/1092588/gran-turismo-wants-to-build-real-life-racer

At a special event to celebrate the title's 15th anniversary, its creator said he hopes the brand will eventually build its own car.

"We have big dreams and I think one of those dreams is maybe one day making an actual car," Kazunori Yamauchi told Sky News.

Speaking at the Silverstone circuit, the game designer and former racing driver said he has worked more closely with car manufacturers in recent years.

"As we made series after series, our relationship got closer and closer," he said.

"Now we're at a point where we know when the newest cars are going to be released by the manufacturers sometimes two or three years prior to the rest of the world.

Darren Cox, global motorsport director at Nissan, said Gran Turismo's success initially took many people by surprise.

"I don't think anyone in the motor industry realised that when this type of gaming started, it would mushroom into such an industry," he said. "It really has been an incredible journey."

Nissan's involvement with Gran Turismo includes a collaboration with the game's creator on one of their top-end racers.

"Yamauchi actually designed the control system for our GTI super car, so it was a real blurring between the gaming community and the real world," he said.

There's a video report at the link too.

you can get the same lighting with GT5 dude

Even with the same weather and lighting conditions gt5 looks quite different.
But you guys can go on and take pics in gt5 trying to make it look like this.
Like I said, it's also possible that the guy taking pics here didn't know what he was doing, doesn't look like it tho

This guy explains why the two garages exist:

I agree it's bad, but I think they should make the filtered one go away, since often I want to use a car that is too powerful at that time that needs detuning or something.

Use the filtered garage if you want to quickly find an already eligible car. Press square to see the complete garage if you want to find something else and modify it to meet the requirements.

It's not rocket science.

Yeah, it's a killer. I find the one before the straight is a bugger to get right as well.

The racing line doesn't even tell you to slow down on it either. Despite the fact that you clearly have to in fast cars.

Yes, I've used the racing line. I will accept all mocking.

TheSeks

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Would be nice to have a bit of variety in terms of starts. Why running start for everything?

That was patched in two years ago. It's better than the "dodging all the AI cars that are slow to start" cold-starts.

I dunno why but the "no standards won't have interior views" rubs me cold. I expected that, but the fact that this just seems like a minor update to GT5 (yes, yes, new physics... shush) just doesn't impress me.

middle shot looks the best and most realistic though I do get the impression the last picture is rather cartoony.

Very flat looking, I can't believe ppl not seeing a difference are the same ones who spent thousands of posts to prove fm4 looked worse than gt5

Erm... that's intentional, and actually a good thing. :p It lets you choose cars that don't fit the limitations and then change their setup to match the limitations.
