oh no 11 hours of cinematics out of a 35 hour game.... the horror....you'll be watching cutscenes for a fraction of the time you're actually playing the game...

I don't want to sit through 11 hours of poorly produced and written cinematics. . .sue me.

Unrecognizable from the FF I know and love. It may be a good game on its own merits, but man I miss classic FF. Closest we've had to it in years is Lost Odyssey and that wasn't even a Square game.
There is stuff like Bravely Default which is basically spiritual successors to FFIII and FFV. Octopath Traveler is similar SNES FF games. I Am Setsuna story-wise is reminiscent of FFX.

This game looks amazing on so many levels, fans aren't ready they are in for a shock Square Enix got themselves the finest talent in action game design to work on this game alongside the already solid FFXIV team

when you press R1 during cinematic it says cinematic evade :D
It kinda reminds me of when an italian site interviewed andrea pessino, one of ready at down chiefs and he explained how they called their melee system for the order "cine-melee" because there was a small cutscene involved...

I knew the game was utterly fucked after reading that:lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Ok we have heard you. To each their own.

I for one see it as getting a 35hr main story game + 20+hr side quest game + an 11hr CG anime show.

I do wonder if you realize how much time was spent scouring through text in the FF cutscenes of od though.

lol man I’m hyped but give me a fucking break. The best part of the game isn’t the actual game, it’s the fact that a PS5 is running it?

Did Sony pay for this tweet?
Yeah, the ultra Sony fanboys continue to be most vile creatures on the face of the planet lol. Sometimes you just want to appreciate a nice game and they're all

The games looks ok, but there is a nightmare in the presentation so far.

I mean, if they don't tell the game was FF at the start of the video I wouldn't guess, maybe AC?

They are like leaving the boring part of the exploration without edit and cutting parts of the combat gameplay? Why?

Strange choise of market.

It's FFXIV team. Pretty much sure it will have good writings and awesome musics. Gameplay wise it's an action RPG with some DMC vibes but tailored for a more casual/mainstream gamers with spectacular effects. Personally I can't wait ^^

Fuck you and your 11+ hours of cinematics. Who wants this? Like folks can't both malign narrative heavy affairs from the "big studios" and then be okay with being sitting on your hands for 11 hours of non-interactivity. That's absurd and I sure as shit hope not accurate.
Quite a bit of people. Some of the best selling games have lengthy cut scenes and most are skip-able. Examples include:
  • Cyberpunk 2077 is ~24 hour game. This individual beat it in under 1 hour skipping all the scenes.
  • RDR2 is ~50 hour game with 10 hours of cut scenes.
  • The Witcher 3 is ~50 hour game with 15 hours of cutscenes

Pokémon is popular because of the brand, the games objectively suck.

4-6 million in sales for major franchises (on the high end) isn't enough to justify it as popular in this day an age.

Sorry, not sorry.
Pokemon might have a problem here and there with its games, but saying most of its games suck when Scarlet and Violet sold 21 million units in a little more than a month is just a denial.

And since when 5 million + is not popular? 10 million+ sales are reached by few games. Those are not popular, those are mainstream, and few games can realistically reach that.

Aww, guess you've never played FF back in the days while you had to scroll through douzains of hours of text and sprites cutscenes I suppose

I didn't say anything about not wanting to read text. SE has not made a single FF game in the last ten years at least that has a decent script behind it that would make me excited to know that the next game is going to have 11 hours of it dedicated solely to them trying to tell a cinematic story. The story trailers that we've seen so far also do not inspire confidence and neither do gifs of "Whizbang vidya game action. . ." (as if I also want to sit and watch 11 hours of Marvel Universe style action dressed up as "storytelling").

All of those games had EXCELLENT storytelling and direction and so sitting through the cutscenes in those games wasn't a chore. If this one has excellent storytelling and direction (again, not seeing it from the quality of writing of the trailers so far) then great, even better if it is spread out not just to the main story. If its more of the quality in FFXIV, which had a decent story and some wildly uneven writing and direction/voicework, then. . .well this year is already stacked anyway so no need to get everything at launch.

It's not because of the turn based battles. Moreso it's yet again another dating sim. Especially with the High School environment.
It helps, obviously, but its just a part of the equation.Persona 5 and Three Houses are 100+ hour games, who would put up with 80 hours of gameplay, just to enjoy 20 hours of the social stuff?

Octopath Traveler sold more than 3.5 million units(and was not frontloaded) and was a pure old school JRPG, and zero brand awareness. What's the excuse for OT for doing well?

The best part of this awesome Big Mac Extra Value Meal? The fact that it was all made possible by McDonalds (tm)!!!!

Lol I mean I’m a fan of PlayStation too, but what a douche-y thing to say. Imagine if you went to some message board and asked people’s opinions of the game and they said something like that. You’d immediately assume they’re a complete tool.

I think if this game sells on par with three houses square might be closing up shop

There’s considerably different sized budgets between these two games, and I assume a gulf of expectations
Fire Emblem has a fraction of FF's brand awareness. If XVI was turn based, and had the quality that Three Houses had, it would have sold double the ammount at minimum.

3.82 Million, and the data isn't renewed because nobody is gonna buy it anymore.

These franchises don't have long legs.

That's not a lot for a franchise that has decades of time to prove itself and get more popular and on a system that has multiple 10 million plus sellers.
Three Houses got at 4 million after years of constantly selling. It did 2 million or so in the first month or so, and the extra 2 million in the extra 3 years or so. So its clearly still selling, even if slowly.

Maybe it's just me, but I have always seen and moved fina fantasy because it's a game that I think keeps re-inventing itself.

The only true roots it has are its summons, magic, and item names, Currency name, Cid, and Wedge.

I think FF is always representative of the times and technology a the time each entry comes to market.

Anyways, I am there on day one, this would be my first $70 game worth buying for the year.. I am tempted to sell my PS5, just to buy another one when the game comes out so I can say I bought it for the game haha.
I agree that change is on its DNA, but you don't need to change genres to adapt and change. But let's agree to disagree.

i dont want open world either but i dont want corridors , i want those closed areas to be filled with interesting stuff to explore
From what I've read, the game will be more akin to Xenoblade Chronicles than it will be Final Fantasy XV. Obviously the battle system is much different than both.

And neither is the opposite true too. I don't get your point.

Pokemon has been stagnant for decades now. But people still claim for more, so it clearly is doing something right. Scarlet and Violet finally tried something new, and it resonated with people, even if it has horrible technical problems.

So hyped! I don’t mind it’s not turn based since I’m getting that from Octopath, Bravely Default, Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei/Persona.

if they are going for action RPG then I want proper action combat and looks like FFXVI delivering exactly that.

Lol man the absolute worst part of FF1-10 is the battle system. This is coming from someone who’s been a fan from the beginning. I think I still have my Cloud Strife shirt from preordering FF7 back in the day.

I used to love that shit but it absolutely bores me to tears nowadays, good riddance.

And to people pointing to Persona or whatever as an example of what a turn-based battle system can be: that’s about as far from traditional FF as DMC style combat is. Plus it’s boring.

It’s been over 20 years since FFX. You people should begin the healing process and go play one of the zillion other boring turn based JRPGs, instead of whining that the one mainline FF game we get every 6 years isn’t some nostalgia wank fest

This is the hypest shit coming from this series in a decade. It’ll destroy all expectations and possibly running for GOTY which considering the name and the genre itself will be miracle. Please be to this franchise what Elden Ring did to Souls: break all record! In Yoshida we trust T_T

Something about the royal army keep raid in Waloed at night reminds me of FFIX
you return to Alexandria at night, the whole Alexander being summoned scene.
in terms of atmosphere and time of day.

Same.

Been playing FF since 2 (US) and its hard for me to revisit the turn based games now. A lot of people don’t want to admit it but turn based rpgs have very low sales ceilings.

I do wonder what they will do to FFIX when the time comes show the remake

These are the worst post in the whole discussion so far.

Good riddance to you. This reads like console fanboy bullshit.

BTW in genreal: What are you people even arguing about? Because at no point does Yoshi-P pass judgement on turn-based as a concept. He strictly says they decided on pure action as a different direction. He's free to do so, because in the end EVERYTHING, Action, ATB. Hybrid, Turn-Based relies on execution and focus. There's nothing that's automatically better than the other.
