When they name dropped 4chan and that they worship Stormfront. Cringing at that.

I wasn't sure if I heard that or not. It's the scene in the hospital room where the TV is on about the Stormfront rally, right? I could barely hear it as it was just background dialogue from the television set but I thought I heard 4chan and now I know I did.

Only watched the first 2 episodes but thought they were dynamite compared to the turgid ‘Trump and America are le Nazis’ basic retard writing that we had in season 2.
They actually make fun of woke shit a little bit in this season.

Inclusivity Kingdom, or whatever it was called, was an entire woke theme park where they had Intersectional Tacos and a bunch of woke rides and attractions.

I'm kind of glad to see Hollywood at least poked fun at wokeness a little bit.

Going deep with S3. The first 3 episodes are super. Puns intended. Writers/producers continue the fuck-it-why-not parade and it makes this show.

Off to a great start. Glad Stormfront is out of the picture is good. She was dragging the tone of the show down. Interested to see how Homelander evolves over the course of the season. Shit is getting really interesting on that front.

A lot of things I don't like about this season. Nothing will top Season 1 which was fantastic, everything since then has been progressively downhill. Show is still fun at times so I'll keep watching.

I have to say though, the people that play young versions of Edgar and Mallory in the '84 flashback are surprisingly well cast. The young Stan Edgar, especially, even has a lot of the mannerisms and voice/speech patterns of Giancarlo Esposito.

What's the verdict so far? Decent?
I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes. I think the actor who plays Homelander does a kick ass job.

Someone mentioned it earlier about Starlight looking drawn out and I agree.

This season has been entertaining so far and definitely over the top.

Still trying to recover from that scene in episode one.

But so far show has been great. Putting Homelander back where he belongs just helps the show.

YES. That's why he's so prominent in promotional materials, previews, etc. He's a really well written character and Antony Starr does a fantastic job.

I do think the increased emphasis on political subject matter is weakening the show overall, including the Homelander character. I think the "what would happen if Superman was a psychologically and emotionally stunted man-child, but was also very, very evil" concept alone has a lot of potential, and they did a fantastic job with it. But now in Season 3 you also have very overt "oh now he's happy that he's the voice of angry disenchanted rural white men in the Rust belt" which is unnecessary and damages the quality of the show.

Part of the appeal of Homelander is that he knows he's practically a Superman-level god. He thinks he's above everyone and everything, and simultaneously shows contempt for everyone -- all things both on the left and right side of the spectrum -- yet he craves their love and admiration. He obviously hates all the left side stuff but even on the right, he makes fun of religion (he has made fun of Starlight more than once for her Christian background) and he even disapproves of Nazism in a way -- every time Stormfront would go on her wacky "they're trying to replace us whites" rants, Homelander would give her a "yo, chill the fuck out" look. It's almost as if he doesn't even subscribe to white supremacy, because in his eyes there's only "Homelander supremacy" and he's above everyone equally, regardless of their background.

Someone mentioned it earlier about Starlight looking drawn out and I agree.
I also agree, and I'm a bit conflicted.

Episode 3 did a fantastic job with her, showing that her whole life she has been humiliated into doing stuff for other people -- whether it's for her mom at a child beauty pageant (what the fuck was that dance routine done by a child!? Cringey as fuck) or for now the end goal of taking out Homelander, where even her boyfriend Hughie is putting the cause above her own needs. And now that Homelander gave his "I'm done catering to the public and will just do whatever the fuck I want" speech, that really shook her since, in contrast to Homelander, she precisely can NOT "do whatever the fuck she wants."

So I think Starlight looking a little drawn out is kind of tiresome for us in the audience, since we're used to the somewhat happy/chipper (and sometimes topless 😏) Starlight from the first two seasons. But the gravity of her situation weighing on her has narrative efficiency, so... 🤷🏾‍♂️

I mean, they take a dump on pretty much everything, like
at the Vought theme park where they take the piss out of wokeness and LGBTQI+++-+x.

I love the irreverence as it's for everything.

I don't think anything is too drawn out at the moment, nor there really any 'agenda' being pushed. Perhaps I don't care to see such issues, but to me they've just been getting the balance of extreme/ultra violence, comedy, and serious drama just right.

Not just Homelander but Giancarlo Esposito and Karl Urban and for that matter many of the other actors are doing a great job here.

Good point.

Even some of the "secondary" actors do a good job. For example that PR chick that works at Vought; she's intense, awkward and even kind of ugly to an extent. But it's precisely because of that, that she plays the part so well.
I know who you're talking about. I like her because she's got such a weird face. Those bulging eyes.

Yeah even minor characters like her are really good. The show is full of personality.

I'm just waiting until Homelander stops giving a shit and becomes a world tyrant.

I mean, so far he only shown glimpses of his power. I want to see him trying to catch A-Train as he runs for his life. I want to see how he fares against the Deep if he tries to bring the fight underwater. I want to see him how he fares against a nuclear bomb thrown at him. Stuff like that.

So bored of the threat of Homelander going savage. Please show him going off as a message or something. Every time it's a one on one scene with him intimidating they do it so much its starting to lose impact.

The problem imho is that she's terribly miscast.

She's a talent show kid, she should be played by a charismatic actress able to turn on charm like a lightbulb, instead she just acts very plain all the time. I don't know if she's directed to act this way to make her stand out against the freakshow of damaged individuals that is the seven but...

One thing that I dislike that many shows do, is they plant plot devices in the same episodes that the plot device is going to get used.

For instance, The Deep eating the Octopus, they should have let that little relationship ride for a little while. Secondly, the Nadia plot point, that crazy dude should have spent more time sniffing around, yet he only lasted 2 episodes.

We will get there eventualy. Him becoming a tyrant is the endgame.

They planned 5 seasons for the series. You want them to blow their load on season 3?

It's fun seeing Homelander slowly loosing his marbles. It gives the character some depth.

Like Walt transformation to Heisenberg in Breaking Bad

Homelander just want to be loved by anybody. He doesnt care if its right/left, he just want to be popular.

Him becoming popular with rural white men in the Rust belt after his rant in the live broadcast, lets be real, was realistic af

It sounds like what you really want is to watch Invincible.

I didn't know about the plan being 5 seasons, but Kripke's 5 season run on Supernatural gives me all the faith in the world.

Probably but in this case i prefer the live action because i can enjoy the acting. Especially Starr's acting.

No but i wouldn't want it to last for a single episode before he is killed in the final season or something. That would be White-Walkers-attack-lasted-a-single-episode-in-the-last-season-of-GoT-after-7-fucking-seasons-of-build-up kind of bad.

I want to see Homelander rule the earth for a while.

Fair point, FWIW Invincible has a really strong cast as well.

I know there was a big hype around it when the show came out, but I enjoyed ot way more than I expected to.

Agreed.

The traditional storytelling style of
Act 1 - setup, introduction, and development
Act 2 - lowest point and highest challenge for the heroes, temporary victories for the villains
Act 3 - Heroes overcome challenges and triumph

would really be beneficial here. So Act 2 would have Homelander temporarily "triumph" and The Boys/Starlight/other allies would be demoralized and at a low point, before they eventually triumph. But it would ideally be a whole Act, not a single episode.

I am still enjoying the show, but Homelander needs a real, earnest foil. He was highly entertaining as the calmly terrifying villain in season one, the unhinged weirdo in season two, but now the act and constant threat to burn it all down is wearing thin. I never finished the comics so maybe this is where the tables begin to turn, but it's so boring how every plot thread eventually leads back to Homelander being a barrier.

I think in the comic books he actually does do what he says in the show, for example, invading the White House.

Show is still good, but im not sure what exactly Homelander is after anymore or what is motivating him. He doesnt even seem to care about The Boys or Ryan anymore. Yeah i know he is slowly losing his shit but its only Season 3 and im already tired of the writers almost letting him loose and then reining him back and repeat ad nauseam.

And Queen Maeve had like what...30 seconds of screen time in the 3 episodes? What is up with that? Did the writers forget about her?
