Fortnite Chapter 2 - Season 7: Invasion

Fortnite making some good additions lately. If this keeps up we might see some Bee Gees one day. I mean, we already have a Travolta emote, lol.

I have a 30 percent win rate this season.

Is the game less fun because winning is too easy?

Are the UFOs not ideal because they allow teammates to do their own thing?

Do I hope Epic adds counters to the game soon?

I will investigate these questions further this weekend.
As always I think there are a bunch of reasons.

First, the ones who want to play competitively are probably avoiding regular modes altogether; Epic has stopped insisting that regular and competitive have the same loot and UFOs are not available in competitive, like how Shockwave Bows weren't in last season.

Secondly, the UFO's hurtboxes are busted vs ARs at the moment. Your best bet vs UFOs seems to be railguns (3 shots down) or even another UFO swinging a wrecking-object. Expect a change to this when the next update arrives.

Thirdly, one of the great things Epic has done over time is having separate modes for solo, duos, trios (this got added latest IIRC) and squads. The problem with catering so widely is that the balance is going to be borked regardless and with how Fortnite keeps iterating, I would not expect them to balance stuff for each mode. And that's probably fine, I'd say currently separating comp and casual modes is the way to go.

Out of curiosity I tried to figure out what the maximum range of the UFO's projectile is.

Turns out it's 750m (maybe a bit more, but definitely not more than 777m).

On paper, you could have 1 squadmate as a spotter marking rough enemy locations/builds and 2-3 squadmates in UFOs shooting great balls of ire from outside visibility range (~300m). Ugh.

I varied my UFO use over the weekend. A few games I was emergency UFO rescue saving people from the storm. The others I was tractor beaming Sharks and dropping them into box battles.

I picked up his technique of 'rubbing' large objects over enemies and it works a charm.

Back in C2S5 I had the dastardly idea of leading a shark into Stealthy Stronghold so that it'd either fight the Predator or players who were weakened by the Predator. Sadly the shark can't swim in those waters and moves about as if it were all dry land, though it is able to attack players if they get close enough.

I've been meaning to beam Sunny and see what she does/say, considering her song is all about aliens BAE.

Looks like there's a new music event coming.

Slurp truck is great for sending enemy UFOs spinning back to Earth. I agree with the video, I've laughed a lot this season. Especially after the dry Primal.
Once you have a weapon in hand, you can also hijack a UFO and kill the Trespasser (or player) that's piloting it. Bonus points for hijacking by dropping down from a higher UFO (I have the high ground? Lol.)

The Kymera Raygun that the trespassers drop is kinda fun in theory if you have backup. The cooldown time is such that if you carry two Rayguns and cycle between them upon overheating, they'll always be ready in time, so you have a virtually endless ray of harassment. The main gaps are the time it takes to switch between weapons as well as the startup time.

And part of me wonders if last season was so dry to amplify the effects of this season's additions. Heck even boars dropping Shieldshrooms last season would have been very welcome.

Bit like the two minigun trick a few seasons ago. One cools down and the other fires. Predator on steroids. The alien gun works like I imagine an energy gun would in real life....constant beam of energy instead of pew! Pew!

As expected, this update fixed the UFO's hurtbox so your eyes no longer deceive you.

They also fixed the one-handed pickaxe's bug where it would swing on its own from the second swing onwards; I can finally enjoy Sunny's pickaxe.

Not a problem since his cape always had a life of its own and is more or less a symbiote in Marvel terms lol. Would surely be a better BB than Venom's.

Oh god, Venom's horrendous backbling. I really don't get what the concept or designers at epic were thinking. surely if they saw or read planet of the symbiotes. they could of easily came up with his multiple heads as backbling. I really don't even use the symbiote tote, simply because I'm a spider man fan so covering up that awesome white spider emblem would be a crime imo.

"I am inevitable" that's literally the description for the skin. but yeah not a fan of his backbling and they definitely could of gave him a pickaxe (the one dual bladed sword from endgame) that or glider or a wrap. gonna be a little challenging to find a fitting combo imo.

According to ShiinaBR and a few other leakers/data miners for fortnite. there Is a possibility that the foundation or something related to him could be next month's crew pack. And there has been some stuff found in the files that suggests this new skin evolves or gets styles with each new month as long as you're still a crew member. fascinating stuff

Sometimes I think they know a skin will sell on its own and they just get an intern to design the backbling lol.

And I think whatever else they could design for Venom would look odd on most other characters; similar issue with most of my BBs not really suiting Venom. A lot of collab skins are better thought of as standalones.

Yea definitely a pass from me but for fans who want a Thanos skin I think Epic did a great job; modeling and materials are on point.

Wow, if The Foundation does end up as a Crew skin, this would be hands down the best period to get a subscription. I've already gotten it for MCM (and her 2 music packs that came with this update are fucking dope) but man, Foundation would so wash the taste of Llambro out of my mouth LOL!

Primary example being the recent new black Widow. I mean, I get there isn't a whole lot to make a backbling for her. but c'mon...really? another holo backbling? even the OG black Widow had a superior one!! and she's just head hunter in a red or blonde wig. hmmm I am on the fence, I want thanos but im afraid of not gonna be able to make a good combo. plus I imagine he's gonna be bulky. On the other hand, I'd like to add him to my collection of marvel skins. only ones I don't have is silver surfer, daredevil, new black Widow, and antman. and yes! I didn’t get Llambro but the Foundation would be instant W imo for the crew skins. I have MCM as well lol and just got the music packs this morning. also to add further evidence he might be, each crew pack lines up with themes of chapter one seasons. in this case this pack would be based on season X where we got the scientist. MCM was for season 9 with the whole future theme. not a confirmation but just some theory or speculation on my part.

I wonder if this is a legit typo (Jaded) or if Mustard's teasing some stuff coming. Wild guess: Jade from Mortal Kombat??

And his followup tweet contains "imagine" and "order". ICYMI, the "IO" in IO Guards stood for Imagined Order. So yea...

Anyway, the advice is pretty good on its own regardless of his interweaving of teases.

Lol yea that holo BB was okay though I barely use it. And yes OG Widow used the Headhunter model and had redhead/blonde hairstyles to choose from.

Well, wait till he arrives and see what combos people use for him. I imagine it'll be a bit difficult because the material they're using for his model makes a lot of the Fortnite stuff clash a little. Still, apparently he has some fun with the Snap emote so maybe that could be your combo, heh.

Well, we have around a week more to see if it is indeed the coolest Seven member so far or if it'll be another Green Arrow/Llambro situation lol. Let's hope!

Hnmm, looking at the skin I could just use the greed wrap (the one for oro) or midas memory since there is some gold and black on him. and doesn't seem to be the shiny pristine gold material they use otherwise radiant runes which is a shiny gold material would work perfectly. as for a glider could just use the marvel glider or victory umbrella from season 4. hmmm, and maybe that new rainbow carver pickaxe that's been leaked with this update to match the infinity stones. And yes, but here's hoping he is, alot people are hoping he's not the next crew skin though I don't see why not.

Wraps are the one item that I leave on random all the time lol.

I'm thinking you could use Siona's glider (the surfing meteorite) with him.

Oh I can understand why they hope he isn't because if he's an item shop skin they can at least grind the vbucks, plus we have no idea how and when Crew skins will return (there's a clause that states they can return, but there's no precedent set yet).

Anyway, I'd been wondering for a while how the Japanese would get to appreciate Sunny's Song to its fullest and this is what I found (it's dope!):

Also, I finally tried beaming Sunny with a UFO. She just whips out her pistol and shoots at me, so much for taking her on my UFO. Then again, I wasn't wearing an alien skin while doing it...

I'm very thorough when it comes to combos. much like pizo, I want stuff to match or atleast make sense in terms of the skins origin and background. otherwise I won't use that skin as much as another. it may seem extreme or very vain but I'm also like that Irl. I just like to have my clothes and shoes match the colors. better than looking like some bizarre runaway circus freak lol. hmmm, maybe, I might use the cosmic crasher or whatever it's called. and yeah that's understandable, I can see why the cause for concern. plus he's connected to the story so that may have something to do with it. there is alot of fortnite lore and story fans so I understand where they are coming from.

Yup, you weren't an alien and she beamed you lol. at the end of the day she's very perceptive of who she rides with on a UFO haha.

I'm a bit more lax, sometimes I'll have the BB and pickaxes match the skin, other times I'll match one item and use another that I just really like, typically happens with gliders since they spend the least amount of time active in a game.

Oh yea being well dressed IRL isn't bad at all, it's a great thing :D

Hah yea I might try beaming her again with the Kymera skin though I really doubt Epic went to that effort (and frankly I'm not raring to go try it again lol).

Yeah I see where you are coming from. I mean I sometimes like to mix match and Gliders and pickaxes. it's alot of fun coming up with unique combos that don't necessarily match. lol I don't blame you for not wanting to try again. I doubt Epic did as well, but it would be nice little touch of detail if they did. Btw have you played that bio zone trios ltm yet? I want to for the challenges but I'm not looking forward to build battles and such.

Drop out of the sky just looking at them. Ah well. I had my fun.

UFOs were fun to pilot in the past Fortnite (both meanings) but were a huge PITA to fight if all you had were non-alien weapons.

Yea one of my favourite things to do is pick the Vanquisher pickaxe for skinny characters, the contrast is hilarious :D

I played some of the Zone Wars earlier, it's typical Epic; locking really cool shit behind a mode that's not everyone's cup of tea. The back bling is great and melts over time! But I'll be doing this in bits and not binging.

I guess you can say, you'll be hammering in the point! Haha but yeah that pickaxe is big lol. and yeah sadly alot people have been complaining on Twitter about this. I don't like it more than they do, but I have no choice as I want that backbling and glider. it sucks because I'm not very good at build battles and I fight like a bot so I know I'm gonna get my but handed to me. alot of people have using the friends method, sadly none of the people on my friends list have the time though. oh well typical Epic games as you said, locking cool shit behind modes that cater to sweats its like they want to torture us lmao.

What did they change??

They shoot their orbs at a slower rate. I'd wager the time it took to fire 10 orbs (last week), you can now only shoot 6.

Plus, max height got lowered so you can't fly as high. Height used to be around 300yards from ground. Now it's around 270 yards (or meters?)

Edit: Apparently, their hit box got nerfed (fixed) as well.

They're still OP though. It was probably a healthy nerf from my estimation.

Zone Wars is going to be a chore to grind through. 😬

Here is some advice epic games. don't ever lock cosmetic items or even challenges behind a mode that is guaranteed to be filled with sweaty players. 1. casual players aren't gonna even stay let alone find the motivation to continue. 2. They are far more time consuming to complete depending the circumstances or luck. never again, I hope the upcoming LTM'S they have planned for the next challenges aren't horrendous as this shit because my god was last night a nightmare for me to power through.

Yup, weak points, zero point, gunpoint, no point lol! Honestly it's huge to the extent of obscuring my view while swinging sometimes, but I play casually so the idea of it alone is entertaining.

Cockles & Whelks Cockles & Whelks , the below is basically what I'd reply to you too, lol:

Apparently they made some changes to the mode. When I tried it first it was 10 rounds long and now it's 5, which is the sweet spot IMO. The issue I had in my initial play was that people who weren't feeling the mode after 1-2 rounds would leave since there are so many more rounds left and we'd end up having fewer and fewer people playing.

And I'm not sure if this was an added tweak but players get put into games in progress, so even leavers will get replaced. All in all I'd say they remedied the mode fairly well, just have to get used to being shot all over.

In all fairness the worst challenge so far is the headshot elims and the reward is deliberately the least attractive item, so I'd say Epic knows what they're doing. Glider and BB are fantastic, can't wait to get the remaining 3 styles!

Thanks man (men? Lol), turns out they did mention the firing rate nerf in the Switch's Fortnite news section.
3kqLGtv.jpg

And yea I gave it a try earlier, the firing rate feels a lot more reasonable now. I wouldn't be opposed to them applying damage reduction for the UFO body, with full damage at the cockpit.

I think the hurtbox fix might be related to the vehicle hurtboxes in general. Prior to this you could shoot at someone driving a land vehicle from any direction and your bullets would hit the driver more often than not, it was as if the vehicle's body wasn't there.

Not bothering with the headshot one

Man, Fortnite is on a roll these days! I've moved on from the game (I wasn't having fun playing it anymore sadly) but damn, seeing their latest additions and updates makes me almost want to come back. That being said, I expect some of these skins will be highlighted in the many Fortnite accounts for sale in the black market lol, they've been popping up like crazy lately.
Eh that's cool; no point playing if you find no fun in it.

When did you stop playing anyway? This season is worth hopping in and hijacking a UFO for the lulz, especially in the first two weeks.

Got them done last night. but it wasn't so much of getting eliminated alot. I'm use to it *cough love and war ltm cough*. it was every one, in every match that there were or was a toxic dick head. take the L emote, laugh it up, sad trumpet, just alot of unnecessary toxicity. I get it's just a game, but really? is really worth being an asshole for no reason? anyway it's over and done with. only one I'm not gonna waste my time on is the headshot eliminations. I researched the other LTM's they have planned for the upcoming challenges. pro 100 is sorta like red vs Blue but with squads like getting downed or revived. you get to buy from vending machines with coins and revive teammates. I went through the challenges on twitter. only one that seems a little bit difficult is the revive teammates one as other players on the enemy team are gonna eliminate them before you can really do that. otherwise one is deal rocket launcher damage to other players, and buy stuff from the vending machines.

Oh man, it's been years since I last played Fortnite! I forgot which season was the time when I quit, but basically, backblings weren't even present in the game yet and Tilted Towers was the hotspot location since there were a lot of players dropping there LOL
WTF, a quick search shows they were introduced in February of 2018 so...yea, a lot has changed in that time lol. 2018 was a whirlwind of weekly updates o_O

Tilted Towers was the hot spot for almost the entirety of Chapter 1. Current season is a little unique in that the dead center is more or less a cold spot now.

In the end you just gotta shrug it off and not let it get to you, though I know some days it's harder than others, especially if you already had a bad day prior to playing.

The way I see it, taunting after an easy kill means they lack self esteem. Taunting after winning a tough fight is totally deserved and they earned it.

That said, Laugh It Up is designed to be annoying on purpose; the animation is cool but I hate the audio. Doesn't matter where and when it's used, I just don't want that sound near my ears lol. Edit: If you think about it, that emote costs 500 vbucks to make an ass of yourself whenever you want, literally.

Yup, thank the heavens today's challenges won't be as difficult as the first ones was. only one that is gonna be challenging is the revive teammates one. actually let rephrase that I meant annoying lol. it's funny because I have laugh it up, so I rarely use it unless im really in a toxic mood. but even then I just dance on my opponents like never gonna or marsh walk. I guess I must be an ass lol haha.

When I actually played through it, the challenges weren't as difficult as impressions might suggest, mostly requires time, it's the headshots elim challenge that is genuinely more difficult because often times it is out of your control, sometimes a downed opponent wiggling about also makes it difficult.

Well, the most apt emote this season is Ska-stra-terrestial. Skanking on an opponent after a tough fight is too good.

Oh and I forgot to mention earlier but I do check future challenges as well because I wanted to make sure there are no overlaps before grinding the first set out.

Ah yea, he was foreshadowed in that one MCM loading screen.

Really hoping they did justice to Tom Hiddleston's mug, he is to Loki what RDJ is to Tony Stark.

And yes, Fortnite Crew stays winning, lol!

Yup but alot of people just assumed he was gonna either be the secret skin or apart of the battle pass. or an item shop skin, awesome to know he's the crew pack skin for July. now that makes two marvel villains lol, we have doctor doom, Mystique, venom, task master, and these two lol.
