Jeff Grubb: "Starfield is exclusive to Xbox and PC. Period."

The hype for this game feel so inorganic to me. I mean, I've done some searching but can't find a single second of gameplay. In fact, the only thing I've been able to find is a screen shot from what looks like an early alpha build. So I'm really confused as to why there is a discussion is about it.

If it is an exclusive, that's great for XBOX but not surprising to me since they own the studio. Someone help a fellow gamer out and fill in the missing gaps here, please.
Does it really need to be explained?

I’m hyped for Elden Ring. I love Miyazaki’s games and he’s never let me down before. I didn’t need to see the leaked footage to get hyped.

I’m hyped to see what Guerrilla, Sucker Punch, Insomniac and Santa Monica put out next, because they have proven pedigree, not because of some 1 minute Horizon trailer. Same for GTA 6, TES 6, The Witcher 4.

I get hyped when one of my favourite movies gets a sequel green kit, or when one of my favourite authors announces they are working on something, or when a band I like announces a new album.

I don’t have to forensically know everything about a product to be hyped for it.

God Howard won’t disappoint with Starfield.

I suspect you already knew all of this, because you too are a human being, but you probably just wanted to use the word inorganic in relation to this game. The funny thing is that most ‘hype’ is usually manufactured by the companies pushing bull shots, trailers, ‘friendly previews’ and by devs making all sorts of statements, making that the most inorganic hype of all. Whereas Starfield hype is purely just from people who love TES and Fallout and are excited to see what Bathesda can do in a new setting.

While I understand the sentiment, Bethesda isn't Naughty Dog or Rockstar. They release games full of bugs. More importantly, their last game Fallout76 was a total dud, and it still is.

I hope Starfield turns out to be a AAA great 10/10 game, because the industry does need high-quality SP games more than ever.
76 was mainly developed by Austin and it's basically a multiplayer experiment developed using the last gen version of the creation engine.
Starfield is another story. It's likely it will have plenty of bugs though.

pretty sure he leaked a bunch of Xbox related stuff at the start of this year, all of which came true

edit: never mind, you're an obvious fanboy looking 2 sec into your post history
I'm an "obvious fanboy" because I dislike the Series S even though I've owned Xboxes, SEGA, and Nintendo consoles and currently play heavily on PC and PS5?

FOH! You don't know me or my gaming history you clown.

Big space sci fi rpg has got me very interested and the xbox series consoles could definitely do with an exclusive that's not on PlayStation. Only downside is its made by Bethesda who haven't made a game I liked since 2011. Will gamepass day one, this could be massive for xbox and gamepass if it turns out excellent.

I'm in two minds about responding to this because of your attempt to throw jabs over a difference of opinion. Consider this... Suppose just for a second if you can that I'm a gamer who needs to see gameplay so that I can make an assessment for myself? One of the games I'm most hyped for this gen seemingly came out of nowhere

I wasn't trying to diminish your hype for the game. As I mentioned earlier, I figured there was some leaked gameplay that got erased. But all I've seen thus far is an alpha screen shot. I'm interested to see more. Also, I too have studios I trust but I can count those on one hand. Don't be mad at me if your favourite studio isn't one of them.

It's an exclusive and gets hyped by people who own the platform this is releasing on.

Same with Sony or Nintendo games.

I'm more interested in if it will be any good rather than what platforms it will be available on.

Exactly. These Starfield threads are starting to feel like...

Gamers: I need to see what this Starfield game is about

I hope when the upcoming trailer drops and then gameplay demo to follow, we will see you guys jump in with Gamepass. Let's get it together.
If that dont tickles you still, think about the trailer for Kojima new horror game!
Exciting times. Can't wait! 🙀

Wasn't there a rumour that the whole reason Microsoft bought Bethesda was because Sony were locking down Bethesda exclusivity and they were after Starfield? We've seen death loop and Tokyo ghost thing go that way so it has some evidence behind it.

If that's the case Sony must have seen something in the game and known how much of a megaton exclusivity would be.

I guess MS were just like....wait a minute, fuck that.

No idea why exclusivity has become such a huge deal?

MS has given you lot of opportunity to play it. If you dont have xbox, extremely likely you would own an ok PC.

If you have neither, they even offer an amazing little console for $299. Add a month of gamepass for $10 and bring its effective price to $220 compared to buying game at $100 on playstation.

If you cant even do this, maybe you dont want to play the game and simply are trolling.

cant believe some people here say that bethesda has alot to prove and they havent gone anywhere in 15 years
meanwhile skyrim - over 30 million sales and fallout 4 13 million sales
they released 1 bad game and all of a sudden they are a bad company
There is a valid argument on both sides. I have been a big fan of Bethesda going all the way back to Sea Dogs (actually, Wayne Gretzky Hockey) but they are well known for releasing games with a lot of bugs and they have had some duds along the way too. I am holding judgement on this game until we actually see some real-time gameplay. We have yet to see a trailer or current screenshot. I hope we get flooded with info this summer.

I’m a Sony only guy at the moment and Starfield is the first game since before the PS4 generation that has the potential to make me hurt a bit.

I do have a PC with a 1070 GPU. Any chance it’ll run this game somewhat acceptablely?
You’ll have to try Xcloud

don't know why people were expecting it to come to Playstation lol. i guess if you want to play it you'll need to buy an Xbox, build a PC, or use xCloud 🤷‍♂️

Never known a more self entitled fan base.
i hope you're talking about Playstation fans...

Steam is not a Microsoft platform.

Come On What GIF by MOODMAN
no it isn't but Windows is and MS already release games on Steam (halo, forza, flight sim)

On what basis?
it's a a 5 year old GPU.

Starfield isn't even out yet and likely will run like shit even on the best hardware.

you seriously can't expect someone with a 5 year old GPU to play AAA titles in 2021/2022, right? lol

People expected that of Cyberpunk.
people are idiots then.

I still don't understand why some people care about BGS games. Aren't thet alway a hot pile of unfinished garbage?
they do indeed release in a buggy mess. i remember Skyrim being a mess on PS3 for months. i remember having to mod the shit out of FO4 on PC because it could drop to ~15-20fps (from 60-80fps) for no real reason.

but honestly i have to say i'm loving the denial in here. Elder Scrolls + Fallout games have sold well and are considered classics (Skyrim/New Vegas at least) and now suddenly people can't understand why people care about them?

just because Playstation owners have for years said Xbox needs games and now MS bought rights to games they don't like it cause they can't play them on their Playstation?

Nah, he’s wrong: NeoGAF told me that Microsoft couldn’t afford exclusives, because the ZeniMax purchase was so expensive that if they didn’t put their games on PlayStation that Microsoft would go bankrupt.
But GAF has repeatedly informed me that Microsoft would never do that because it's just them leaving money on the table.

Why do people make posts like this? People here have certainly speculated that, but that was by no means a consensus. Maybe the PS5 fanboys were vocally promoting such nonsense, but lacking any hard data I am going to assume they are a minority.

Anyone with half a brain knows that these exclusives can and will drive console sales and/or Gamepass adoption. People speculated that maybe they would come to PS after a year or longer if MS thought it was worth it. But with Gamepass the library is important. Having a library full of games you missed because they never came to PS will always be an incentive to try Gamepass on PC or to buy an Xbox for it even a few years in the future. I.e. it is a long term strategy to grow their userbase.

probably as much Xbox people care about returnal and rachet ... that's the life of a closed garden gamer

Really? I get what you are saying, but it kind of shows that PS doesn't really have anything yet revealed that rises to the level of a proper Bethesda single player RPG. A follow up up game from those who gave us Skyrim, a multiplatform game that still sells a fair amount a decade later is way above a new IP and a long running action platformer that has been a PS exclusive for 4 gens. Maybe Final Fantasy works here for some, or if Sony Money Hats GTA6.

The Series S exists. The 1070 is still very much supported by Nvidia through driver updates and it's more powerful than the Series S.

Provided he doesn't want to play at 4k and is comfortable playing games at 1080p/1440p 60fps without ray tracing then that card will still have legs in it through to at least the mid point of this generation.

If people want to be ignorant towards PC hardware in the pursuit of promoting Xcloud (whatever other shitty streaming service they want to push) then go ahead, but the fact is the 1070 outperforms hardware Microsoft themselves are billing as "next gen".

It's an open platform running on microsoft OS that allows everyone to dump games in there, not just xbox. Sony sells games for pc. And microsoft gets not money from software sales unless they're their own.

I'm tired of people claiming the millions of people playing on pc somehow are part of the xbox/microsoft ecosystem.
you can be whatever you want but they are in the Microsoft ecosystem . period. there is no debate about it.
as android users are in Google ecosystem etc etc etc. is just a fact

Yeah, that is true again in my opinion, Microsoft was very clear on their message but then again things could change.
To be fair, they weren’t clear enough, that’s why this is still talked about.
They could have said:
- The Elder Scrolls VI, Starfield, Indiana Jones and everything else Bethesda is making is exclusive to Xbox and PC.
- Not, it’s not timed exclusivity. Full exclusives.

Desperate? Really? I mean it's their choice. But I don't think no one will desperate about it 🤷‍♂️
Finally some common sense.

You don't get desperate when you are dumped by your partner, you won't get desperate for a game not running on a platform.

I am happy if Starfield is not on PS5:
  1. Gives a push, to Sony, to fill the void on its platform
  2. If it's on Gamepass, and it's passably interesting, I can get a €15 pass for 1 month, beat the game on PC and drop Gamepass. Exacly how I did with WD Legions and AC:Valhalla: I got UBIpass for 1 month and played and beat 2 AAA games for €15
This gives me the opportunity to keep money to buy PS5 exclusives. I'll be a happy camper!

Space walking simulator

Then I'll keep my Death Stranding (which I enjoyed very much!)

Saying Bethesda and Todd Howard have a lot to prove is hilarious. Bethesda and their IPs are the face of WRPGs lol
They have a fuck ton to prove, given the past lack luster years.

You don't have to make purchases through the windows store like you do the Google play store on android.

You can get a Windows key for ~$10 and then never give another penny to Microsoft while still being able to make full use of the Windows platform while the same isn't true on android/iOS. That's the difference between an open ecosystem and a closed one.

Oh the typical persecution complex strikes again!

I mean before you become so irrationally defensive, maybe you should take a look at the last major release from Bethesda...

Series S says hello.... a GTX 1070 is still much more potent than that thing.
So unless MS plans to just drop the Series S and max out the Series X completely you are wrong.
But ofc this is Bethesda we`re talking about and we all know that the game will run like shit on all systems, no matter the hardware, until they`ve patched it up ~6 months later.
