Metroid Prime 4 News : Retro Studios Hiring Storyboard Artist to Craft "Cinematic" and "Emotional" scenes

We trully won't see this game until the end of the system right?

Or maybe a launch title for a Switch revision. What's so difficult about coming up with a simple, straight forward story for this game? What a shame.

Fuck goddammit. This was the only reason I was going to buy a Switch and Nintendo still fucks this up. They are no where close to releasing this.

Why does Nintendo continue to fund this studio? They have over 200 employees who in the last decade have only produced a couple 2.5D platformers which you could mistake as expansion packs of each other. Which weren't even that great IMO, plenty of indie platformers have competed or surpassed them on quality, for example I personally enjoyed Impossible Lair more than either DKC. Coincidentally, that was made by probably 20-30 people who in less than 5 years shipped both a 3D and 2.5 platformer off a fucking Kickstarter. Meanwhile Retro has produced nothing internally in over 6 years and has likely racked up a nearly 200 million dollar deficit for their failed internal projects that never even made it to announce phase.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
I think there have been problems behind the scenes. This project seems to be moving at a snail's pace.

I was hoping that perhaps Retro could use some of the assets from the previous team's work. Or maybe not even assets, just something they've learned during development that could help Retro build this game more quickly.

But something very odd is going on. Not only that we've been waiting for MP4 years, but also that Retro's output has been questionable. Their last full game was finished seven years ago. SEVEN YEARS.

Something's wrong..

It's not unlikely that the core mechanics are already in place. Hopefully their doing it the Zelda way.

Her anime redesign doesn't look very tall. Those proportions don't work for 6'3 200lbs.

What will be the bigger gap?

Avatar -> Avatar 2
Metroid Prime 3 > MP4?

I can't even begin to imagine how eye-melting Avatar 2 is going to look. When I watched the first one on Blu-Ray on my new 1080p TV back then, it was the only time where I was genuinely blown away by the visuals of a movie. It was the Crysis of movies basically, lol.

As for MP 4, does Retro even still have the know-how for games on this scale? What have they done other than Donkey Kong? Some assistance for Mario Kart, I believe?

A new Metroid Prime, with state-of-the-art graphics and production values (and cinematic storytelling, according to those job postings) might well be one of the biggest and most ambitious projects Nintendo has ever done. Considering how long the development cycles for other AAA projects are these days, I fear MP4 is still years away. I could see it being a Switch 2 launch title in 2023 or something.

Nintendo fucked themselves and their fans with their stupid idea in sourcing this out to Bandai.

Are people still on this? They sourced the development. I think the problem was a lot more focused on the crappy story, weird as fuck pacing and limitations. Team ninja provided the engine as far as I know and it works decent enough.

Nintendo CAN do wrong and they did. No blaming Team ninja on this one.

Sakamoto ruined his own franchise when he started focusing on story. Started with Fusion and Zero Mission and came to a head with Other M.

Hate to use the term, but Metroid should be "Souls like", with a minimum of exposition and explanation. Mechanics and secrets should be discovered by the player.
"Prime like" ya mean, cause that's where From lifted a lot of the text description style of storytelling from

As for this, if they keep it at Zero Mission/Prime levels then it will be fine

I actually want Samus to talk in MP4. Like as much as Other M. Just with way better writing and a different voice actor.
I wouldn't mind this as long as we're not talking about having it be a cut scene heavy game. I would prefer the Bioshock/half life style where the story exposition happens while still playing.

I think even MP3 had too many cut scenes, it just doesn't gel with the metroid prime style imo

I can't even place this title for a release at this point:

Its nowhere a cross ....cycle release between switch and switch 2. It's neither a cross gen title between switch 2 and....Nintendo's 10th generation console.... Jesus

prediction: I'm giving this game until 2030 for a....trailer and gameplay

Here's my unnecessary bump:

I really liked the optional satellite launching to find the last few upgrades in MP3, one of the best things about it. Even when I looked up the ones I had missed in Zero Mission, before going to the end, I still couldn't get a few of them due to not being able to shinespark that many times in a row or in one case even understand what it wanted me to do. I should've gone back after beating AM2R and SM but I'll do it next time I run them through.

Yeah I liked that too, probably the only reason I bothered to go for 100% in that game, and...I had a good time doing it!

Oh, MP4? I predict a 2023 release at the rate it sounds like they're going. I'm fine with that, just make it good, please.

It'll be good I'm sure, I just hope it can give me the same feelings as Prime 1 and 2 did back when I played them, which was a few years after release when I got a GC.

Fuck that Spiderball boss though lol. I'm fine with the difficulty of it, but the route you take to it meant you naturally hadn't saved in ages, that was the real kicker.

I think general consensus is that 1 is the best I just loved the power journey in 2, the first time I went to Dark Aether and stepped outside the forcefield and started losing health I ran back to it and wondered what to do, then I realised you have to take damage to move on. Taking less damage from the air and letting you explore more, then making it so you could make the forcefields hurt enemies and finally being immune and making the forcefields attractive to enemies was so freaking cool.

I'm with you, Echoes is the best in the series by a good margin. People complained about Dark Aether but it added a great tension and a feeling of the world literally being against you until you persevere and eventually overcome. And the game had the best environments, too. Loved Torvis Bog and Sanctuary Fortress. And Quadraxis might be the coolest boss fight I've seen in any game.
