More powerful Nintendo Switch model rumored for early 2021

Doubt Nintendo would take Sony/MS head on.

There wouldn't be Mario to save the day. Their games would pale in comparison to next gen.

Be curious what the chipset is on this one. If launching next summer/fall I dont think we will get an announcement this fall. Space will be too crowded with the new 4kTwins. Why fight for messaging and dollars when you can come in the day after and get folks as a secondary device.

If it's coming next year I'd guess 12nm and Turing based (assuming it's Nvidia). So maybe ~2x Switch in terms of FLOPS at the same power, but coming from Maxwell to Turing and (maybe) having DLSS could make the real world results more impressive. Having more RAM and bandwidth would go a long way too, although it's hard to imagine Nintendo including a 128-bit bus, they've avoided it this long.

I will be impressed if we get much more than some left over X2's that might be available cheap. Esp based on the details of the rumor which look like Magic Leap 1 leftovers. Would be enough to get them ~1080p (on current Switch level games). I would love to see Nintendo have something New (semi) custom made. Something that allows them to port PS4 games and get SOME current multiplats.

A more powerful switch to play all those upcoming non existant games.

For real though it would be nice to have a more powerful switch, it wouldn't hurt but Nintendo needs to up their game with releases.

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
Credit and thanks to @Lovelygamer for the heads up.

More powerful Switch console coming early 2021

I think this helps explain why Nintendo has been so silent this year. They've been working
on the "pro" model(the disclosed R & D costs in financials prove they've been working on something big).

Also, they've been working on games for the system. Covid hit and here we are.

Could one of the upcoming Nintendo Directs drop this bomb!?
Smokescreen!

Switch Pro is actually Lockhart.

Nintendo and MS join forces and extend subscription services to each other's consoles.

I mean Phil Spencer HAS been pretty sweet on Nintendo lately... and they've released a small handful of games natively to the console so far.

I will buy the shit out of this (And probably never play it like i do with all my Nintendo consoles)

Seriously though, if they release an enhanced Pro model i am totally buying one ASAP.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
A 1080P screen doesnt make a lot of sense to me. I could see a new version that was slimmer without the bezels but it would still be a 720p screen. Doubling the RAM also doesnt make a lot of sense.

Well, Nintendo needs to catch up, I mean they were still SD with the Wii when everyone moved on to the Xbox 360 and PS3 for an HD experience.
Nintendo needs to do something otherwise they won't be able to close the gap when PS5 and Xbox Series X comes into fruition.

Righhhtttt. If it's still a handheld and console in 1 as the pro version it can't be very pro. Not that this is true.

If Switch 2 supports DLSS 2.0 we could get 1080p games sooner than later.

We are talking about Nintendo:
Switch 1 doesnt even support simple Bluetooth headphones.... DLSS support is a loooooooong-shot

Nintendo doesnt have to do anything; They will sell a record breaking amount of "next-gen" Pokemon/Animal Crossing even at 480p, zero QoL updates, and no cloud saves.

Very good. This time, I'll buy the version with the dichromatic color scheme. My biggest regret about the Switch is that I bought the boring gray version...

Hold onto your panties
"Better interactivity and image quality" may not mean what you think it means.

Edit: Let me expand on this. The Wall Street Journal infamously reported two new versions of the Switch for 2020. One was the Switch Lite -- fair cop to them. The other was a version with "enhanced features targeted at avid video gamers." Well, they got that right too.

It was the Switch with improved battery life. Just the thing for avid video gamers, of course.

So be careful how you interpret these rumors. There might be little more in view than an improved screen.
That's what I gathered by this, too. Although, Nintendo has been known to buff-up their handheld consoles (this DS, DS-lite, DS-XL, DS-XLi, 3DS, 3DS-XL, etc); I wouldn't find it unlikely they would do something similar with the Switch. However, it's more-than-likely going to be something with an extended battery life.

Nintendo loves to double-dip with their ardent fans, so it's not out of the question. Granted, what benefits are you going to get? They can't make games specifically-tailored to the device when they have 50m+ other Switches out in the world, so are you going to get a PS4 Pro/X1X approach? I'd say it's not worth it, except in the named instance it actually kinda was.

OK I don't care?
Smash is already 60fps so what am I supposed to do with some shitty 3D Max version featuring Ugandan Knuckles from Sonic?
Develop a proper successor or miss me with this shite yo.

Any substantial upgrade would be welcome. Something sporting DLSS 2.0+ would be an especially good get for a handheld/hybrid.

There's not much to this news story though, is there? Even if they end up being "right," their words are so vague that just about any upgrade could fit the description. I'm interested to know what they intended by "better interactivity." Probably just improved joycon sticks, which would be great, but enhanced motion tracking or something would be a godsend.

If this is real, the earliest I think we could expect an announcement would be post-Christmas, just like the original Switch. They wouldn't want to undercut Christmas sales by showing off the new hotness too early (NOTE: not saying it IS real)

You sure about that?

The stuff Nintendo puts out on weaker hardware is often pretty incredible. Since Nintendo has gone HD alone they have had a number of great looking games.

Nintendo with Switch tech is already capable of producing some very nice stuff, I can only imagine what they could do with tech at the level of PS4 or greater.

Just going from Wii U to Switch which was a tiny leap produced noticeable improvements in visuals. Just look at the difference between Smash 4 and Smash 5, it's pretty noticeable.
Now imagine what they could do with a true generational leap. Like going from Wii to Wii U for example was night and day.

Where have you been lately ? The Switch is the best selling console ( for like more than 18 months ). It will probably be the best selling console next year as well.

A Switch upgrade makes all the sense in the world. I would definitely upgrade and many other will. This new system released alongside Breath of the Wild 2 would sell crazy from day 1.

I'd rather have grey than any 2 tone shit. 2 tone looks awful.

At least get 2 of the same color. I waited to get the 2 Red Mario Odyssey joycon. I was patient with my grey joycon and black pro and waited for colors I really wanted. The White Smash Pro is awesome, as are my 2 red Joycon.

My thing with this new powerful Nintendo system is this.

1: How do you market it? You cannot say play your current switch games in 4k because that would be untrue. Really you'd be saying play your current games in 1080p but that sounds hilarious these days

2: they tried this before with the new 3ds and it didn't work at all. Are they willing to try this mid system update again?

The most pro moves they could make:

•Lower power consumption with silicon processes or screen tech (not an engineer)

•Better battery tech (again add tech magic here)

•Joycon drift...not an engineer, but fix it!!!

I would buy that pro.

What am I NOT doing?....I'm not spending another $4-500, only to push the reset button on my game library/saves all while reducing the battery life of the handheld.

I'd rather just buy an xbox or ps5.
