Final Fantasy 16 Sony Exclusive Rumor 👀

Hearing a rumour tell me the game is coming out sooner than we think is enough for me to know its bullshit.

When was the last time SE came out with any mainline FF in a short span of time since the last generation?

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if both companies make anti consumer moves in the name of competition for the first couple of years.

I'm definitely expecting Microsoft to counter these moves with something similar.

I know you don't like to hear this but it's part of business.
I know it’s part of business and I fully expect to see MS do it too. I will be against it then as well.

Big if true.

I dunno, I just noticed the exclusive PlayStation FFs (sans MMO) turn out to be usually good and well liked. Not saying I dislike XIII and XV but they’re polarizing compared to the other games (even XII).

I remember when Xbox 360 had exclusives that either never made it to another console or required a one year wait like we're seeing today with Final Fantasy VII Remake. Three of them came from Square-Enix. The Last Remnant took even longer to reach another console (about 10 years). Consoles get exclusive games all the time. I've come to expect console exclusives, especially when a new generation is on the horizon. New IPs being exclusive is one thing, but a franchise being exclusive to one console sucks. Let's just hope this rumor is not true.

Bruh, like FF 7, 8 and 9 for the PSOne. FF X, XI, X-2, XII weren't super far apart but really I only consider X and XII mainline FFs. XII to XIII and XIII to XV were fucking forever.

Apparently this game has been in development since 2016/2017 by the division of Square Enix behind FFXIV. That would explain why the game would be closer to release than what most people expects.

This would be so nostalgic.

I can't argue with putting games on multiple platforms and letting the customers decide, but FF feels like it belongs with Playstation a little bit.

If true, Sony is not taking their PS4 success for granted, and is doing everything possible to recreate it.

Remember that we also had XIII-2 and Lightning Returns in between XIII and XV, even if you don't consider them "mainline" games those are still big titles with AAA production values.

If people thought FFXII to FFXIII were too long (4 years), then FFXV was way longer. If you started it as Versus, then the announcement wait was 10 years (2006 - 2016), if you started it in 2013 (officially revealed as FFXV), then that’s 3 years.

I think the last thing that we would want is for either company to become complacent. Some of the decisions are going to piss us off but we need them to be really competitive with each other.

FF was not on Xbox until 360 right? I feel like Sony and Square have a long history of these kind of deals so I would not be surprised.

Idk if OK would be correct here. The split around launch was like 75-80% PS4...KH3 has a similar split as well.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I think the split was 80% PS4 and 20% Xbox if I remember correctly. MGS5 had a similar ratio as well. Overall, that’s not Ok, but I’m surprised FF15 even sold 20% to be honest.

Would love a return to #9 style and era, less tech more medieval stuff. Wasn't a big fan of #15 and the car etc. Has square ever done a love craftian style one?

I kinda agree with that too. Microsoft should get Ninja Gaiden or something back.

It's been so long.

I actually associate the franchise more with Playstation at this point. Feels like it hit it's highest mainstream recognition there too.
And more games.
1, 2, 4, 6, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, tactics, and a bunch of spin offs.

They are true but it might not be something we hear about until E3/TGS 2021.
Mate, as a heartbroken SH fan just knowing that the franchise is alive (and in good hands, may I add) and coming back soon rather than later makes me happy.

That reveal is going to be legendary, whenever it comes.

Last year XV was around 9M counting PC sales so that % is likely even lower now.

I think the main problem is XBox owners need to finally start supporting Japanese games if they want to see these games come to their platforms. I try to support Japanese games on XBox, but unfortunately I’m in the minority. Then again, not having any type of hardware presence in Japan probably contributes to things as well.

When the exclusive Lost Odyssey failed to sell well on Xbox, you know things were dire.

I see. XBox might be at like 9% now generously speaking then. If Final Fantasy can’t tear up the charts with the XBox demographic, I don’t think anything can from Japan.

It's almost as if making the switch to Playstation is the simple and obvious solution for an Xbox fan, and it's been that way for years now.

Who the fuck cares about Halo, Gears and Fable? Halo and Gears haven't been good since the Bush Administration, and Fable was never good to begin with.

It's definitely an interesting position so I can see why putting Japanese games(Yakuza/FF Etc) on GamePass would be an attractive idea depending on the type of deal they are presented...some of the financial risk is alleviated for sure. For example Yakuza: Like a Dragon has sold (last reported) around 550K in Japan/Asia on the PS4...I doubt the game does numbers close to that on XBOX in the west but MicroSoft has purchased timed exclusivity for the next-gen version of the game.

That's crazy if true. The Final Fantasy series is one of the best known series in the world, even people I know that aren't gamers buy Final Fantasy games just to play the numbered titles. Literally a console with 1 game in some cases. I know I bought an OLED just to enjoy FF7R in its full glory.

Yeah, but it’s still not consumer friendly lol

Well that generation they money hatted anything and everything, even EA as a whole, and this gen looks like they’re just moneyhatting everything as well, so it’s a fair comparison.

I don't think they moneyhatted ANYTHING in the PS2 generation. Companies actually WANTED to be Sony exclusive - because with 155 million PS2s vs 24 milllion Xboxes and 21 million Gamecubes, going multiplatform was pointless a lot of the time. Maybe they see that situation happening again.
