Red Dead Redemption II |OT| Who knew horse testicles had such a crunch?

Am I misunderstanding how the Core's work? I was thinking as long as you had a bit of core, you could regenerate whatever the Core was corresponding to. My health and stamina regenerates but my Deadeye doesn't even though my deadeye core is full. Do I have to drink snake oils to refill deadeye? I haven't been but now my deadeye doesn't go up and I have to now.

It's a bit annoying how unprofitable horse taming is. Spend some time taming horses and you get offered $2 for it. I get that it would be an easy source of money otherwise, but it would have been nice if they added a way to legitimise tamed horses by getting papers for them. It should just be a time consuming endeavour. Maybe even have a requirement that a horse gets much more valuable the more it's been tamed.

I really like the horse taming thing, but it sucks that it's not a viable source of money.

Dead eye is active
Your dead eye core and ring control how often and how long you can use your bullet-time ability. Generally speaking, the core and ring work like your health and stamina cores and rings: Your dead eye core will drain over time or through use, and you can refill both with provisions like meat and tonics like chewing tobacco.

The major difference you’ll notice about the dead eye core and ring is that the ring doesn’t refill over time. You have to actively refill your dead eye ring just like you do the core. You’ll earn a chunk of ring back periodically when you kill animals or humans (but you won’t necessarily earn a chunk every time).

This game really appeals to the type of people who put 100+ mods in skyrim to make it as "immersive" as possible. I'm not that person but Im really digging the game so far. Only real gripe is lack of fast travel and you walk SO DAMN SLOW.

There is fast travel, upgrade your camp ;)

lmaoooo everyone mentioning the poor controls and tedious actions as archaic game design when rockstar clearly designed it this way. This game is such a breath of fresh air from these stupid battle royale twitch FPS games. Thank you ROCKSTAR for making me believe in gaming again!!!

Wanting controls that work isn't archaic, it should be a standard

Broken controls doesn't = breath of fresh air, it's poor design

I keep hearing about all this realism. Does this game still has health regeneration ?

And is it actually playable without using quest compass/markers ?

I didn't even feel it was worth responding to that guy, considering the size of the strawman he was building. If you don't want broken controls you automatically want twitch FPS controls, WHAT? There's nothing wrong with tanky controls, as long as they are responsive and work properly.

The controls here are really not ideal. I felt a lot more in control of my character in GTA5 (and RDR1 for that matter). Here I often feel like the controls are working against me, especially in close quarters situations. And it's not just that the controls are clunky, it's that the control scheme is not well designed. Quite often my character accidentally ends up doing something I didn't want him to, because the controls are so weird and unintuitive. The way you switch guns on your horse is also really unnecessarily convoluted. You'd expect R2 to draw the last weapon you used (like in most games), but instead it usually just draws the revolver.

The menus too. "Release R1" to use consumables is just straight-up bad design. Especially because it seems to randomly just not work for some reason, forcing me to go into the menu to try it again. The horse grooming menu too. I often press the D-pad to feed my horse, only to have Arthur stand there like a moron until I press the D-pad a second time.

I really love the game, but the controls are a black mark on what I'm finding to be an amazing and well-polished game. I really hope they fix them up in a patch. No idea why some people here feel the need to disparage those who are having issues with the controls, though I guess it's hard to see into the mind of a zealot.

The audio is messed up on Xbox one X if you use a receiver. Cutscenes are normal volume and gameplay is super low volume. Infuriating.
Set to bitsteam disable atmos.
Select DTS
Disable standby
Reboot xbox one x

High end audio on the xbox one x is a fucking nightmare

I have no idea how dueling controls work. Somehow I killed 3 legendary gunslingers in a duel with no problem but I get wrecked by complete randoms in town. Aside from that I don't seem to have as much as a problem with the controls as most people here.

The Lenny mission at the bar just might be the greatest thing in the history of gaming.

A common trend... seems like buttons need to be remapped lol

I found a UFO tonight! it was so unexpected, I was on a collection mission for Herr Strauss, after I wrapped that up I walked into a cabin on a swamp that sort of looked like a summer camp for a cult long past their expiry dates. There were beds with skeletons in them and then a creepy green light peered through the holes in the broken down roof. I looked up and it was a UFO hovering above this badly broken down cabin filled with skeletons, I went into FPS view and got a good look, I fired a few shots and although my aim assist dot went red, it didn't seem like I could damage it with my duel wielding weapons. I ran outside of the cabin only to see the UFO fly off into the night sky, what a ride this game has been after a generous amount of play time this weekend, worth the wait and incredible, I'll definitely want to share more later.

"Who won E3?" discussions are so pointless. I care about the games. We rate conferences like they will affect the games.
I don't think you need to put any specific amount a day. In fact, I think (outside of a few story moments), you don't ever have to use it.

This game was always designed to be a slower, more realistic take. This isn't "ignoring advancement", this is purposeful game design.

Once again you bring up old games with controls you liked that ROCKSTAR DEVELOPED proving my point. They developed the game this way and overall its a better experience (Metacritic seems to agree) except for a few dissenters here on GAF :/. Game hasn't even been out for a week yet the controls are working against you? Proves another point that gamers have become lazy. I remember the time when it took several playthroughs to get used to nuanced game mechanics and Rockstar definitely delivered on this.

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
I'm glad I didn't buy this at launch as it just doesn't really sound like my kind of game. I have very low tolerance for sluggish or cumbersome controls of any kind (even if it's intentional) and I also don't like games where you have to micromanage loads of little things or games where I feel like simulation gets in the way of fun.

Hopefully the online delivers as I may pick this up depending on how that turns out.
The controls aren't bad by design, they're just wonky and unpolished. I crashed my horse into a rock because the controls just didn't respond, that never happened to me in RDR1.

A large portion of last gen had problems with controls that I didn't see many people complaining about, but most games for a long time had what I referred to as Drunk Man Controls. Just little inconsistencies in controls that bugged me but weren't insurmountable. This is like drunk man controls times two. It's not game ruining, but it's not acceptable for a AAA game.

Controls randomly not responding is not game design.

I find the controls fine, I dont have any problems at all aside from duels which i just cant figure out so far. This will be the only game I play for weeks on end, its just so immersive and they put so much stuff to do in it. I really enjoyed 100% the first one, and this looks like it might even take longer to acheive that which is great!

This. Controls aren't great but definitely not that bad as people making it out to be. 20 hours in and honestly I love how slow paced the game is, it just makes me wanna explore the map gradually and just savor the experience.

Not sure what I expected the outcome to be...

I can tell you I thought that American Standardbred was wild and didn’t belong to the guy seeing as how it didn’t have a saddle or anything. Figured I could rope it and bring it in for a quick buck.

Well...

How does melee work? I just got shanked by this guy who pulled out this knife. I pulled out mine. Spammed R2 and he dodged all of it.

I lost 3 perfect carcasses and a hide.

Did you find them? What exactly are you trying to find?

its in Valentine stables when you first have to go to the stables. So you'll advance some in story, but you'll know when you have a choice of picking a regular horse or your DLC horse

Other DLC
i got my outfit from the trunk at camp. There's an option to change clothes. The gun shop has the guns and they're $0, ready for pickup IIRC
I can't seem to download my preorder bonuses, I have already been to the stable in valentine as well.

Rockstar man, the attention to detail cracks me up. At the initial camp in the snow... your horse's balls were shrunk up close to the body because of the cold, at the new camp where Spring is coming and it is warmer down the mountain, they are like low hanging fruit... yes... I checked. :pie_roffles:

I was playing last night, just looking for some deer to bag around the river next to the camp at Horseshoe Overlook. My experience with this was almost hilarious, if it wasn't pissing me off so badly.

I'm tracking a deer, well, actually several together, and I'm being all stealth-like with my bow. As soon as I get close enough where I feel comfortable to draw, some NPC on his horse comes riding down a nearby path, and sends the whole herd scurrying to the other side of the river.

I'm in no particular hurry, having committed this particular day to just hunting, so I waded across the river and picked up the trail on the other side. Again, just as I get close enough and ready my bow, a fucking wagon comes along and sends then scurrying off again.

Then again, by another lone rider, then again by a team of wild horses... Like, five fucking times I had my deer chased away by something or other just as I was ready to shoot it. I finally bagged the fucker, as night was settling in.

It was frustrating as hell, but I had to laugh at the absurdity of it. :)

welp I think I fucked up XD

I saw some kid trapped under the gunsmith store. He asked me to help him so I tried to do that. I tried to talk to the Gunsmith to trigger some event but nothing than I hit the fast trigger button on accident and killed the Gunsmith. So now there is no Gunsmith anymore I stole all the Ammunition the Store had and still could not help the poor kid.

Luckily no one noticed this murder yet so I am totally fine I think but still it sucks. Here is why this shit is not on paar with the Witcher games.

Enjoying your videos. They definitely help explain things that were held back for the Strat Guide sales.

Game is getting so good for me now. Robbed a homestead with Javier and made a ton of money, wasn’t even a full mission just some companion mission I believe.

On the way back I tracked a legendary wolf. Totally kicked my ass, will go back for him later. Some odriscoll boys attacked me on the way back to camp, smoked them all and stole their wagon, as I was bringing it to the fence some poor woman was in a cage stagecoach, had been picked up by the law for from what I could pick up on the conversation, killing her husband after he had been beating her for years. I decided to help out and killed the two lawmen, I actually felt bad about it which this game is amazing at making you feel. But I thought the woman didn’t deserve to go to jail for killing her dick husband.

This game is so good at just making it feel like a real world. I am picking up the controls now and hunting is just such a blast. I am loving my time with it now. Sure there are certain issues, but it is just so enthralling now that I just want to jump back in when not playing it.

I saw this pop up in camp but I got distracted by other things and now it's gone. I wonder if it's timed or if there's a trigger.

The wanted level crap needs a patch. Several times on a mission attacking the enemy base I've picked up a random item and been witnesses a crime with the law that comes riding in. I'm alone looting body after body, but some random item triggers it with no one around? Once was in a cabin, the time they tell to check the fireplace. WTF is this shit, is the the wild west or the nanny state?

Another time I killed a bandit who was robbing a wagon and once again became wanted.

Then one time my horse bumped into a guy and once again became wanted.

My favorite was when a guy ran head on into me and we both fell off our horses. He immediately started shooting me and I had to kill him. Then I get negative fame, where is the option to talk my way out of it?

Edit: F@#$ you R*, the companion app isn't compatible with my new phone? Is this some Samsung/Apple only crap?

This game is so strange sometimes. I'm at camp and trying to swap my saddle onto another horse I found in the wild and brought back with me. I cannot figure out how this is supposed to work, even though I remember the mission where I had to do this, I believe I had to hold up on the d-pad while focused on your main horse. Nothing works. I try taking a rabbit off the saddle first, and I drop it on the ground, at which point I'm teleported to another area of the camp where I guess things are dropped? It's frustrating to learn the game's systems at times, but overall I'm loving this a lot.

Saw a wagon carrying an O’Driscoll prisoner so I ambushed it, killed the lawmen, set the O’Driscoll free, and shot him while he was running away. Looted everyone.
