I honestly think the movie looks fun. I'm going to see if my friend Shaan would like to watch it with me when it comes out this weekend.

Yeah, Marvel doesn't expect this to be another Guardians, but their only problem could be the industry and public's expectations for Marvel movies in general, especial since this is their last movie before DC fully launches their own Cinematic Universe in 2016. If it doesn't even do Cap 1 and Thor 1 level of performance, it could be a tough publicity ride for them until Civil War comes out. Or until the first trailer for Civil War comes out, and then that movie will have to meet or surpass expectations in order for Marvel to stay ahead of the curve against DC.

Good news is that Phase 3 looks like it will really revitalize the MCU, with Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Cap. Marvel, Spider-Man and so on, and even Ant-Man. I know it's Phase 2 technically, but it does feel like the start of a new phase in many parts, and it is indeed a perfect close to Phase 2.

But whatever, I loved Ant-Man.

Yea, I hear you. But marvel is a house hold name, and everyone that's seen it is saying they loved it as much as first Iron man which is saying something.

I think the market especially family's are going to love this movie. Just like kids loved rocket, they are going to fall in love with ant's again.

Actually it is, look at rotten tomatoes. It was at 79%, it's still at 77% right now.

GOTG though was a bigger film, this is a smaller heist film.

Temper your expectations.

I enjoyed Ant-Man. It was fun. I laughed at most of the jokes and was enthralled by some of the action sequences.

I wish Wright directed it though. Some of the sequences would've been snappier, but what we got was good.

Just got back. Really enjoyed it, start to finish. Good laughs, good action, no filler.
There's at least one

I wouldn't worry about the film's box office performance. It's floor is basically the Thor movies.
The Thor movies are monsters on the international market. I can't see Ant-Man having the same pull.

Still plan on seeing it myself though. Looks fun.

Thor ranked 14th and Thor 2 10th in OS gross during the year of their release. Thor 2 was very close with a bunch of other films in terms of OS gross.

Just got back from watching Ant-Man, thought it was great and liked how laid back it felt. While I know they wanted to show something, I think they focused a little too much on a certain thing in 1 shot early in the movie and knew what was going to happen with it eventually immediately.

Just came back, thought it was pretty good. I don't know if it has the right ingredients to be a box office monster though, the scope was too small and the stakes didn't seem high enough.

But that will always be a problem with Ant-Man. How do you make big, epic set-pieces when everything is tiny.

I also thought the comedic timing was slightly off, and it made me wonder how Edgar Wright would have directed it.

Just got back from this and loved it. Its a good time, doesn't outstay its welcome, tells its story well. Cast are pitch perfect.

The trailers really didn't do it justice.

Its nice that it doesn't have to be the end of the world for every MCU movie.

Do I like it more than AoU? Dunno, yet. I'll have to wait to swatch them both again on Bluray.

Just got back from it. The first half drags a bit but the second half was really, really fun. So glad I only watched the first trailer.

I might be imagining it but I can see some Edgar Wright-ey bit in this movie.

Overall it's exactly what I expected. Good start to phase 3.

But Age of Ultron was mediocre and a disappointment (from the action, camerawork, direction, to the bloat of it all). This doesn't sound encouraging lol.

Antman is on a totally different scale to AoU (pun intended). Maybe Guardians is a better comparison. AM has a great sense of humor but it's not about the end of the world (though it's about preventing things from getting to that point).

Maybe Marvel films need to have a frontlash rather than a backlash.

Would you feel better if I told you that I did not enjoy both Avengers, and AoU? Especially the latter?

Just came back home from a screening.

It was ridiculously good. One of the best MCU movies and probably one of my favorite movies of the whole year so far. Struck all the right notes and was a good mix of action and comedy without shoehorning in too much other stuff.

Just got back. It was surprisingly good. The jokes were more natural than those in AoU.
And the fightings, I thought they would be boring, but I was totally wrong.
The two post credit scenes were surprises, especially the second one.

I saw this last night with my partner. I went in with expectations in check, but it far exceeded them. I'd only seen the initial teaser and first trailer and thought it looked confused tonally, but Ant-Man was fun and didn't take itself too seriously. It's not the best Marvel Studios film, but I thought it was refreshing and far more enjoyable than Age of Ultron. Marvel nailed the casting, the characters were memorable and believable. I hope to see them continue to make appearances throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

the ending of that clip is wack but i dunno man that's a cool action scene. easy top 3 of all time for marvel studios imo. very clever stuff going on with his use of size, and i like how he slid over the tiny model car.

It's not even the best action scene in the film.

I honestly don't see how anyone could hate on that action scene. Great use of the shrinking ability, neat throwback to an earlier scene
where he tries to jump through a keyhole
and they actually used the environment in a very creative way. The first part is directly lifted from the Wright test footage but still.

.

the bit where one character is describing what other multiple character are saying is classic Edgar Wright. I almost expecting Simon Pegg to be at the end of that scene :D

I found the post credit scenes underwhelming, I didn't even understand what the second one was implying

Recruiting bucky ? What do they need ant man for ?

I think this is
an actual scene from Civil War, not something prior to that movie. There's been a falling out with Stark (obv. after Ultron), and Cap doesn't trust him anymore. The scene just confirms that Ant-man will side with Cap/Falcon

I was really surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie, it was a ton of fun. Enjoyed the humor in it a lot and the action was great.

Feige confirmed the scene was shot while filming for Civil War and was intended for that film. But when they did it he decided it would be a perfect stinger for Ant-Man.

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it. Was a very nice change to the typical marvel movie format. Overall to me the movie seemed more grounded than any of the other ones which is sounds weird as I'm typing this out but it did. I enjoyed it way more than AOU for sure though.

The trailers didn't impress me but the movie sure did.

I hope that life-size Thomas the Tank engine gets placed somewhere.
RIP Antony.

Likes:
Michael Pena as Luis. The guy has a lot of cousins that know people.
The good guy has an army this time.
Paul Rudd's daughter. "He's so ugly. I love it!" Feeding the ant/dog under the table: adorable.
Baskin Robbins always finds out.
"I didn't steal anything. I was returning something I stole!"
The final battle takes place in a child's room with toys flying everywhere.
The keychain tank.
Atwell and Howard Stark in the opening.
The smaller scale of the movie. No cities falling, one building imploded, no absurdly high body count.

Dislikes:
Wasn't impressed with the villain.
The Falcon tie-in seemed so B-tier. I get that the Avengers exist but did they really need an action scene with those two?
The kissing scene at the end was played for laughs but still felt unnecessary.
No one missed Frank.
