Does your workplace disapprove of topless dudes, with their pants unzipped showing part of their underwear, lying on a bed?

As good as the Bombcast currently is, it would have been hilarious if Ryan was around to just brutalise Dan every time he comes out with some nonsense. That dude had a way of ripping people apart in the most friendly way possible.

Haha yeah, I can just imagine him going "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?!" at Dan a lot.

Sure! I welcome trashy romance stories for all genders and sexualities.

Also the artstyle in neverending nightmares is fantastic.

Neverending Nightmares looks nice and the music is cool but nothing in there was particularly scary. I wonder if that's the stuff that guy actually saw while he was depressed. If that's what was in my mind all the time that'd be a huge bummer though.

Given the giant explosion of visual novels on steam (well, giant compared to basically nothing before) I feel like anime editors Dan and Jeff should have a look at them.
Just fyi, neither Dan nor Jeff are anime editors. That's Brad's job.

Dan just likes anime a lot, there's a difference.

Yeah man a quick look filled with complaining about Lord of the Rings. Jeez sounds riveting.

The games sounds good and I plan on getting it on Black Friday, so I don't need to watch the QL. It would just make lament the end of the Vinny + Brad combo even more.

My mistake. I should correct it to resident otaku Dan Ryckert and anime editor Brad Shoemaker.

Maybe make a feature like Loveline with Dan.

I do think this game has some potential though.

Kissed a Plush Bunny. Kissed a fairy. Had a lesbian relationship. Offered my soul to a demon. Had to go to detention a few times. Got my bra thrown around in the cafeteria. Got spanked by a teacher. Accidentally married said teacher. Got my memories taken by said teacher.

These visual novels seem to have a lot of half naked men in them. I thought the Japanese were still pretty homophobic as a nation? I know they have had things like Cho Aniki and Hard Gay get popular but they seemed to be played more for laughs.

These are games made for girls. Something that doesn't exist in America. lol

Made for women. From what I've seen the japanese mainstream still treats homosexualism as a joke but there is a pretty large group of women who are really into homosexual men.

Just like women here. It's just that no one makes games for them.

I mean, there's Stephen Colbert x John Stewart slash fiction. Heck, I bet there's some GB slash fiction somewhere in the dark corners of the interwebs.

In Japan, when it comes to visual novels, do they have the cultural standing as say adventure games in the west, or is it more niche than that?

I grew up playing adventure games, but always found it odd that more developers didn't try tapping into a similarly narrative-focused game instead of puzzles at their core, and without the perviness, until quite recently with stuff like Gone Home and even Telltale's recent style.

I know that direction is literally hitler for a some people, but it acts as a fantastic gateway drug and can be played on almost anything.

Well, it's weird. Many of them start off as "adult" games on the PC, then get censored and released to a bigger audience on consoles/handhelds, at which point the more popular ones become bigger multimedia projects.

Fate Stay/Night and Steins;Gate are probably the most recent examples, but there are countless others.

They also vary wildly in terms of how they incorporate game systems. Some games have complicated systems that might as well make them RPGs, while others are just choose your own adventure type games.

The first Hobbit movie reminds me of the best LOTR film, Fellowship. But naw, nothing from the hobbit has been better than LOTR, but the films also aren't as terrible as many make them out to be. I've had fun with them and really look forward to the last one later this year.

But I've never read any of the books so my opinion is probably turd juice.

It's way out on the extreme end of popular opinion, along side people who think Goodfellas and The Empire Strikes Back are bad movies.

I didn't know that was what you meant by "way out there". But sure, it's probably not the popular opinion. Those tend to be terrible.

Yeah, they worked at GI together.

oh come on, i'd say there's a relatively common opinion
the books are so different, it depends on what you're looking for. liking the hobbit more is a totally valid opinion

I don't think Patrick is talking about the books.

Edit: I guess he's talking about the books?

"I love The Hobbit! It's better than Lord of the rings!" -Patrick

Wait...what?

He was talking about the book. Which unlike the Hobbit movies is a tight piece of fiction, unlike the bloated movies.

I don't think Patrick is talking about the books.

He said it while referencing not wanting to watch anymore of the movies, he likes the Hobbit book more than LOTR's and even he cant stand the latest movies.
