I think it’s brilliant that Insomniac found a way to throw a body like that in there without anyone raising hell over it. Housemarque did it in Returnal too, even with the main character. Ballsy! It's always those two low quality pictures from a pre-release trailer using a weird angle/wide lense and a weird expression. You can make everyone look ugly this way. Out in the real world women want to have an hourglass figure and likes to fix their hair and use makeup to highlight their facial beauty and spend lots of money on clothes that makes them beautiful. Etc.

And out in the real world young women literally go to the gym to build a booty now, then gladly show their progress on Instagram by posing in weird body twisting poses that highlight their curves.

This is the western world outside of gaming.

This is not a bad thing. It encourages self improvement.
But this isn't about how attractive women in games are. It's about how everyone on this site when approached with a western game can't stop bringing up how woke the industry is or how everyone working in game development is some pink haired obese feminist when in reality thats far as hell from the truth. Yes there are some woke games. Yes, the western industry has taken a turn for the worse. But it's not like games that don't have this influence don't freaking exist. There are plenty of smut games on steam, and indies for the most part still create attractive, cute female characters. And this is literally just a western problem. There is a whole other side of the world that ALSO makes video games. Consider playing those? Or even going outside? You can find plenty of hot girls if you search hard enough. It's annoying to see people whine about what should essentially be a non existent problem. We live in an age where the entire world is making video games, and people are complaining that one part of it doesn't make enough feminine women. I think they try going woke because in the main western countries is trendy/politically correct, so they think it's a potential market so will benefit them. But once they start noticing that it hurts their numbers and do some market research or check user reviews in a few products they'll rectify. But it will take time.

As an example, each Naughty Dog, Netflix and Marvel tv series went more and more woke with the thing of focusing on woke propaganda more and more and focusing less and less in the characters. Too much forcing narratives of "empowered females", making sure they aren't appealing to males or are trans friendly, showcasing they are smarter/more powerful/better than white males, scenes showing white males characters being humilliated and/or showing them as dumb/bad guys, focusing on characters being a victim because of being women, replacing iconic white male protagonists with less charismatic female versions of them or other female/non white protagonists, etc.

Woke media will acclaim this shit, but a big portion of their audience gets pissed off. One thing is to pose on Twitter and other one is to see one of their favorite, iconic characters made less appealing, uglier or getting replaced by a more woke friendly character. When in addition to that they focus more on woke propaganda than in being respectful with that beloved IP to the point they break, the fans get pissed off. And not because of being misogynistic or racist (well, a small portion are), but because of in the name of supposed 'feminism' and 'antiracism' they saw their beloved IP turned into misandry and racist (against white) product. Specially when many of these IPs have an audience with a majority of white males.

This will result into bad user reviews (as we recently saw with She-Hulk or TLOU2) and smaller audiences (as we saw with MsMarvel getting around half of the audience of previous Marvel tv hold audiences) because their target user don't like their products even if praised by woke media reviewers.

What's the solution then? Prohibit discussion of games that come out? Mandate only positive things are said even when the game averages like 65?

I can agree all day long that some people are missing out on good things by objecting to the slightest hint of "woke" without judging the experience (movie, tv, game, etc) on its individual merits. But I disagree that the solution to reaching a happy middle is to brow beat people into pretending they like something or saying nothing at all. I vote they should be allowed to express themselves just like the people who pushed for all the stuff many object to.

It goes beyond just the appearance, it's the personalities too. There is absolutely a fear of "feminine" female characters in the west, overall. They want every female to be an empty avatar for some sort of adolescent empowerment fantasy (eg. Daisy Ridley in Star Wars, barely a character at all) instead of real women (eg. original Star Wars trilogy Leia) who have feminine ways of interacting with others. Most real women who can follow dialogue and aren't on Tumblr etc greatly prefer OG Leia over Rey, just as they adore the original Han Solo and his swaggering around her, more than any of the neutered new-trilogy guys.

Even something like Princess Zelda in Breath of the Wild is pretty much guaranteed never to appear in a major western game. She was too feminine; not a soldier or fighter of some sort, but actually quite diminutive and emotional.
