The Roosevelts: An Intimate History - PBS

"The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" chronicles the lives of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of the most prominent and influential family in American politics. It is the first time in a major documentary television series that their individual stories have been interwoven into a single narrative. This seven-part, fourteen hour film follows the Roosevelts for more than a century, from Theodore’s birth in 1858 to Eleanor’s death in 1962. Over the course of those years, Theodore would become the 26th President of the United States and his beloved niece, Eleanor, would marry his fifth cousin, Franklin, who became the 32nd President of the United States. Together, these three individuals not only redefined the relationship Americans had with their government and with each other, but also redefined the role of the United States within the wider world. The series encompasses the history the Roosevelts helped to shape: the creation of National Parks, the digging of the Panama Canal, the passage of innovative New Deal programs, the defeat of Hitler, and the postwar struggles for civil rights at home and human rights abroad. It is also an intimate human story about love, betrayal, family loyalty, personal courage and the conquest of fear.

A film by Ken Burns.

Somehow she makes it all work with the help of her sexy and understanding partner. For Laura, every day is a high-wire balancing act.

She parties too much and rocks out on the drums in a band with her best friend, Jenny. While there's no shortage of male admirers who would love to spend time with her, she's not ready to settle down... except when an eight-year-old boy - whose parents were put in jail by Rebecca - needs her help.

The Secrets is a strand of five stand-alone dramas for BBC One to support new talent, working with four of Britain’s best upcoming writers - Nick Payne, Sarah Solemani, Elinor Cook and Ben Ockrent.

Directed by BAFTA winner Dominic Savage, each film takes an inciting incident and, from this starting point, five different stories are told in distinctive and original voices.

The Whale - Animal Planet

Martin Sheen stars in The Whale, a two-hour film from BBC and Animal Planet. Based on true events, the film tells one of history's greatest stories of survival at sea as Martin Sheen portrays Old Thomas Nickerson, who tells a story of his life as a cabin boy on the ill-fated voyage of the whaling ship the Essex.

Togetherness - HBO

CNqm6fx.jpg

"Togetherness" follows two couples living under the same roof who struggle to keep their relationships alive while pursuing their individual dreams. Jay and Mark Duplass will write, executive produce and direct the comedy.

Transporter: The Series - TNT

Starring Chris Vance, the series tracks professional transporter Frank Martin from Paris, Berlin and the beautiful shores of the Mediterranean to Geneva, New York and beyond as he carries out his mission to get his packages delivered. As an ex-Special Forces operative, Frank has acquired the driving, fighting and survival skills to make his deliveries on schedule, and never quits until he’s reached his final destination.

Tubby and Enid - BBC Two

TJsGPde.jpg

A musical set in '29 and '69 complete with tap dancing children, singing coal men and possibly a tram.

The television musical, based on the BAFTA-winning writer Victoria Wood’s stage play That Day We Sang, will star BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Another Year, Shakespeare In Love) and Olivier Award winner Michael Ball (Hairspray, Sweeney Todd).

Un-Real - Lifetime

wqjjLAJ.jpg

The dark comedy, inspired by Sarah Gertrude Shapiro’s award-winning independent short Sequin Raze, gives a behind-the-scenes look at the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition program.

Wake Up Call - TNT

O52fX27.jpg

In "Wake Up Call", The Rock will tackle the worst of the worst and make them into the best of the best with his own personal brand of high-octane motivation. From dysfunctional homes and dead-beat dads to sports teams that don't gel and businesses struggling to survive, The Rock is going to descend into the chaos of everyday problems to pull good people up by the bootstraps, reminding them what hard work, passion and true discipline can accomplish.

Each segment on "Wake Up Call" will be a journey for The Rock and his team, as well as for those who will struggle to live up to The Rock's herculean ideals.

Fantastic work as always Ratsky.

So far:

Boardwalk Empire
Sons of Anarchy
The Blacklist
Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Person of Interest (About damn time...)
Homeland
The Newsroom

If I hear good things:

Gotham

Everything else is like with any other year, either too much buzz behind it or GAF convinces me that I have to watch this show as it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The shows I'm most interested in are all BBC related. They seem to have a pretty good track record with interesting one series mystery/crime/thriller shows.

The Secrets/The Game/The Driver...The Detectorists. I'm sensing a theme. Anyways, I know little of these, but like I said any of them is far more intriguing than the usual fare the US networks shovel out. And seems FX and HBO is largely waiting until Spring for their new shows.

Dan

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
The Affair
Boardwalk Empire
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Homeland
The League
The Newsroom (sigh)
Sons of Anarchy
Toy Story That Time Forgot
Transparent
Turks & Caicos + Salting the Battlefield (I recall enjoying Page Eight well enough)

Maybes:
Ascension
Marco Polo
Olive Kitteridge
One Child
Togetherness (if it even arrives this fall at all)

That's somewhat of a light fall for me... with a whopping one broadcast show.

What will I be watching?

Boardwalk Empire, Olive Kitteridge, The Newsroom, Getting On, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Homeland, The Affair, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gotham, The Originals, The Flash, Supernatural, Marvel's Agents of M.E.D.I.O.C.R.I.T.Y., Frontline, Sons of Anarchy, Arrow, The League, NOVA, American Horror Story Freakshow, Bones, Vampire Diaries, Parenthood, Foo Fighters Sonic Highways and maybe Ascension.

You know, just a few things.

Love these threads.

From a quick skim, The 50 Year Argument documentary has really caught my eye so it's a definite must watch for me. As for the rest, will probably just wait for impressions or hope to catch their trailers later on and see if I get interested.

As for returning shows then just South Park and The Good Wife for me.

great job, Ratsky

A toxic bromance, "Soul Mates" follows the story of a couple of buddies, who are continually drawn together across the course of human history, and into the future. In the beginning of time these two mates are experiencing all of life’s firsts as a couple of cavemen. In 64BC they’re designing and installing booby traps in the tombs of Ancient Egypt. In 1979 they’re two Kiwis killing it, as Kiwi Assassins. By 2013 they’re a pair of fashion-obsessed Bondi Hipsters, and in the year 2145 they are tackling time travel conundrums, working nine to five in a time travel agency called Travel Time.

whut...

Yeah, awesome job OP.

You reminded me to get caught up on the League since I got swept away by some anime.

Houdini looks cool, as does Our Zoo. Not sure how I feel about the Saved by the Bell thing.

"Mr. Pickles" is an original animated series set in the small, old-fashioned world of Old Town that is slowly being taken over by the modern world. The series centers on the lives of the Goodman family and their innocent six-year-old son Tommy, whose best friend is the family’s lovable Border Collie, Mr. Pickles.

The two roam around Old Town together getting into classic adventures. Unbeknownst to Tommy and everyone else, except Tommy’s Grandpa, Mr. Pickles has an evil streak and frequently wanders off to kill, mutilate and hump his deserving victims. But the one thing everybody knows about the sweet and adorable dog is that he loves pickles and he gets one every time he’s a good boy.

Wait...what?

Jane the Virgin - The CW

Set in Miami, the series will detail the surprising and unforeseen events that take place in the life of Jane Villanueva, a hard-working, religious young Latina woman whose family tradition and a vow to save her virginity until her marriage to a detective is shattered when a doctor accidentally artificially inseminates her by mistake during a checkup. And to make matters worse, the biological donor is a married man, a former playboy and cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works, but was also her former teenage crush.

Amazing OP as always, Ratsky, thank you!

Is it just me or did the Networks pick up far fewer pilots than usual (for Fall release at least)?
