Haven't tried it yet, but looks good on video. One of my favorite games on PS2.
This is more of a Mario 64/ocarina of time PC port situation. Not an official release.Any news if the port will come to Steam?
Jak and Daxter is what Banjo Kazooie would be if Banjo kazooie was good.Too bad Niel Cuckmann is too busy sucking SJW dick for more TLOU milking. Instead of remaking games that actually deserve it.

I was thinking that this was an official PC release. So you made a thread about a game being not emulated, but still being emulated since it requires a ROM.
Thanks for nothing.

Disagree with the word choice but 100% agree with the statement and sentiment.Too bad Niel Cuckmann is too busy sucking SJW dick for more TLOU milking. Instead of remaking games that actually deserve it.
No shit. This has been playable for ages on PS2 emulation.yeah I came in here thinking wow what a random stealth drop from Sony, should have known based on who the OP was that it wouldn’t have been that simple
To play devil's advocate, Sony probably doesn't see the value in remaking the series when the remaster sales didn't prove interest in the series.Too bad Niel Cuckmann is too busy sucking SJW dick for more TLOU milking. Instead of remaking games that actually deserve it.
Semantics. This is definitely an achievement, since this team essentially reverse-engineered the game's compiler. There's no emulation layer at work here (no PS2 code, or more specifically no code trying to convert the PS2 game to be playable on a modern PC). The ROM is required because they can't legally distribute that.I was thinking that this was an official PC release. J&D1 was the poor man’s Banjo.Jak and Daxter is what Banjo Kazooie would be if Banjo kazooie was good.

But you're absolutely correct, this is essentially a nothingburger for anyone that's interested in playing this game on their computer, because that's been possible for a long time now.
Yeah, put one of the most talented team of devs in the industry to remake fucking Jak and DaxterToo bad Niel Cuckmann is too busy sucking SJW dick for more TLOU milking. Instead of remaking games that actually deserve it.
They should let Sony sell it on Steam, something like that happened with the Diablo reverse engineering project? The version sold on GOG is based of that I think.
Either way, let's download and test this sucker, J&D is my jam!
Good point, I guess I just meant it's a nothing burger if you don't mind playing it exactly like the PS2 game played back in the day. With a native port it opens up the possibility for things like ultrawide resolution, texture remapping (though this is also possible in the newest emulators), etc. It's not a nothing burger at all. Mario 64 PC runs circles over the emulated version.
This is an even safer bet than what you're thinking. They've only released a decompiler / compiler that can convert the existing PS2 ISO into a native Windows (or Linux) version of the game. So, they're not distributing anything copyrighted. Enterprising individuals can use this to make their own native port of the game and run it themselves. That is how you do it. Release these games completely out if the blue instead of giving Sony or Nintendo a heads-up resulting in c&d orders from their lawyers.
Can't wait to try this when I get home, was a brilliant game.

If this was happening with PS3 games, then I'd be excited since those games, despite SIGNIFICANT achievements, are still difficult to emulate.Semantics. First one most certainly did notHe can keep on sucking that SJW dick then, because Jak and Daxter sucked.
Sorry it the questiom sound stupid, but are there any advantage for the final user to this kind of release instead of the use of an emulator? Like, is the original code lighter and you can push higher resolutions or something like that?Semantics. Generally it should be easier to run as it's directly running the game rather than emulating a system to then run the original game.Sorry it the questiom sound stupid, but are there any advantage for the final user to this kind of release instead of the use of an emulator? Wouldn't sell as much. But I'd be better then the stuff Sony puts out these days.Yeah, put one of the most talented team of devs in the industry to remake fucking Jak and Daxter
That's like asking Rockstar to drop GTA VI to remake Table Tennis
Jak and Daxter wouldnt sell 1/5 of the copies that TLOU/Uncharted or a new cinematic IP from them would sell
Glad that you aren the one making decisions at Sony
If this is a native port this will still be better than the emulation in the long run because it can be modded to allow any resolution any framerate, HD texture mods, game mods etc. Plus a lot less input lag compared to ps2 emulation.Semantics. I'm going with the assumption that the nay sayers are just salty PS5 owners stuck playing the PS2 emulation version of the game.If this is a native port this will still be better than the emulation in the long run because it can be modded to allow any resolution any framerate, HD texture mods, game mods etc. Plus a lot less input lag compared to ps2 emulation.
I decided to give this a try for myself, since I'm a huge fan of the first Jak and Daxter game. I was curious to see what all they had baked into their compiler. If this is a native port this will still be better than the emulation in the long run because it can be modded to allow any resolution any framerate, HD texture mods, game mods etc. Plus a lot less input lag compared to ps2 emulation.
Unrelated but I'm glad warnings show on posts now. Makes it clearer whats too far.Too bad Niel Cuckmann is too busy sucking SJW dick for more TLOU milking. Instead of remaking games that actually deserve it.
I think that’s always been a thing on select posts.Unrelated but I'm glad warnings show on posts now. Makes it clearer whats too far.
My dude, the first word in the thread title is "unofficial".I was thinking that this was an official PC release.
Since it wouldnt sell as much, your opinion on what is good is obviously not a popular one thenWouldn't sell as much. But I'd be better then the stuff Sony puts out these days.
That's like saying Spielberg became a bitter director after Shindler's List, not knowing what movies he would direct after itNaughty Dog going from Jak and Daxter to The Last of Us II is a metaphor to all of us growing old and bitter.
Game was impressive back in the day with the seamless world with no loading. The later games have higher poly countsGave it a go. J&D's art assets don't hold up, models look like origami with low res textures. Injected CRT filter and now it looks as it was meant to be played.
Hopefully people start modding the everliving fuck out of this game, maybe fix the archaic camera or reimagine characters with higher poly counts.
