"Tricks give you boost! Boost gives you speed!"

Also, the button combos to do the tricks aren't strange at all. In fact, they are really simple.
I'm not saying they're difficult. I'm saying they're strange. There's a huge disconnect between what you press and what your character ends up doing.

It's feels pretty natural to me since everything (including the controls) are so fluid.

Then again, I've been playing SSX since the PS2 launched so I'm use to the arcadey nature of the game.

The games control very fluidly for sure. And I've played every SSX game. I've just grown tired of the formula as each game has tried to top the last. The courses look awesome in this one, though, so I just had this vision of a game where it doesn't smack of extreeeeeme for the sake of it.

This is probably a ridiculous question, but is there any way to play this competitively without having to do over-the-top tricks? I've never liked how the series has gotten further removed from reality. Awesome to a point, but once the board is coming off and being thrown around because of some strange button combinations, I begin lose interest.

I wish someone would make a more grounded snowboard game, a la Skate.
Off Topic, but Stoked.

Looks like they know what they're doing...any game with a feature called 'Explore Mode' basically gets a free check-out from me anyway.

I concur with that. I have very few PS3 friends and I'd love to have a roster of hardcore SSX players to compete against. Add me. My PSN tag is StrikerObi.

I've been a SSX fan since the PS2 launched and love how the games feel with a Dual Shock controller. I'm inclined to get the PS3 version, especially since it comes with an extra mountain. However, all of my friends will get the game on 360 and it would be nice to compete with them online.

Console and pre-order exclusive content sucks :(.

Can't wait to pick this up from the bargain bin in a couple of months! The game looks great, but omitting local multiplayer means EA doesn't deserve anything close to the RRP.

Is Eddie still a preorder bonus? He was my favorite character and Tricky and I'd hate to miss out on him by not preordering, even though I hate those.

I'm pretty sure you'll be able to unlock him in any version. I don't know if that's confirmed yet, but I can't imagine him seriously being exclusive to one store.

The indie section of the soundtrack is epic. So glad The Hives are back. But it seems to me that most of the other genres are pretty similar which makes the indie section feel small. Oh well, I'd be upset except that I am just going to customize the shit out of the soundtrack by loading up a bunch of my own favorite tunes.

Here's a first pass at my custom soundtrack. Mostly rock/alt but with a little indie hip-hop thrown in. Plus an Anamanaguchi song.

Anamanaguchi - Mess
Arctic Monkeys - Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair
The Black Keys - Gold on the Ceiling
The Cars - Blue Tip
Childish Gambino - Bonfire
The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever
Das Racist - You Outta Know
Death - Keep on Knocking
DJ Danger Mouse / The Beatles - 99 Problems/Helter Skelter
Farewell Continental - Son of a Bitch / Son of a Whore
fun. - All the Pretty Girls
Girl Talk - Something, probably a few songs actually
Gym Class Heroes - Pillmatic or The Queen and I
The Hold Steady - Ask Her for Adderall
Justice - D.A.N.C.E.
The Last Shadow Puppets - Age of the Understatement
Less Than Jake - Summon Monsters
The Long Winters - (It's A) Departure
Matt & Kim - Daylight
Maximo Park - Russian Literature
Motion City Soundtrack - Pulp Fiction
The New Pornographers - Your Hands (Together)
OK Go - White Knuckles
The Raconteurs - Salute Your Solution
Rehasher - Five Extra Long Miles
Run DMC - It's Tricky
Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
Sleigh Bells - Infinity Guitars
Spoon - The Underdog
The Swellers - Welcome Back Riders
Team Teamwork - Shutterbugg (Super Metroid)
Telekinesis - Car Crash
We Are Scientists - Inaction

I just sent Amazon an email asking if they're going to match the price.

Anyone have any experience with ordering games on Toys R Us? Do they get release date delivery?

Their free shipping can take quite a while.

I'd love to hear/see more about the controls. Could've sworn I heard they were slightly more Skate-ish (using analog sticks more) than in the past, and this worries me a little. I think the controls for the older SSX games were pretty much perfect, and I hope they didn't mess them up.

Also, as someone else stated, I hope the final game is not as forgiving as shown in the videos when it comes to landing tricks. They need to retain some of the challenge.

So I emailed Amazon about the Toys R Us deal (SSX for $45) and they gave me $12 off my order. Pretty cool of them, you can try giving it a shot.

Sweet, trying this now myself. I will cross my fingers. I'm already getting it for "free" due to having so much Amazon gift credit on my account, but it's still worth a shot.

No dice on my price match email to Amazon. But there is a thing on the product page (way near the bottom) that says "tell us about a lower price" where you can put in the URL or the site and the price they are selling it for to let Amazon know. I suggest we all do this and maybe they will officially lower their price.
