Fair point, but without going 'secret sauce' we know that Cerny has helped design the GPU with AMD and purely by proximity, that means that the GPU will run more efficiently on PS5 because Cerny helped design it and the GPU. I'm not saying that the PS5 will be more powerful, not at all, i just think it will be more efficient (not trying to buzzword, i just can't think of an alternative) where as MS may have to be more number crunching.

On top of that, i still remember, very vividly, the start of this gen, on this very forum, where Albert Penello was spouting power of the cloud, Directx10 making up for the lack of power and a whole host of other blatant lies from Microsoft. I'm not saying they're doing it again this time around but...it's getting harder and harder to deny that they may be having problems.

We'll see i suppose.
Yep the guys making the box also tried to lie last generation on the power. They tried to say the Xbox One reached over the PS4's bandwidth amount but this wasn't the case

This generational leap is going to be the least impressive yet. At least the loading times are all but disappearing.
We're going to see a big leap especially when the Geometry engine + VRS come into play

The second wave of games will be way more impressive, there might even be some in the pipeline right now that will likely be shown off soon

Ray tracing won't be fully realized until nvidia releases the 3000 series cards. These consoles are over reaching trying to add ray tracing to games on an older GPU. It's going to be so insignificant in console games and not worth whatever the performance cost is.

Look at the god damn game. Any other day, it's a 15$ small budget PC game.

it's been elevated to levels it cannot attain just because it's on the new Xbox.

It's probably just an error.

If it's not, then I'd expect it'll be patched in down the road.

Still, it does make you wonder...

With everything we've seen so far being almost all either CGI, in engine trailers or just flat out running on PC,
So what, they used Macs for the 360 presentation:
The development kits are used during a few years, at least until the E3 2005: the demonstrations of the Xbox 360 at the time are on Mac.

XSXX and PS5 Pro gonna show us the light. Man, all of this makes me want to wait until the mid-gen refreshes. If only I was strong enough.

The Medium? No, it's Xbox Series X and PC, at least through launch; we'll see if they expand out afterwards.

But it doesn't matter, HarryKS's opinion that The Medium is an indie that has been "elevated to levels it cannot attain" is the same whether it's an XSX exclusive or if it's on both next-gen platforms. This being one of the few next-gen exclusives for this early 'we believe in cross-gen' Series X period, it gets scrutinized (and hyped) maybe to an unfair degree because it's alone in the conversation right now against some heavy-hitters on the other side (and an unfortunate lack of support for the uncapped value of cross-gen from the big games on its own side...), but The Medium should find its level in time, and we won't need to analyze news bits about it like this as some evidence that goes all the way to the top...

Guys if you care so much for visual, just play on PC and stop complain. You ALL know there isn't a better place for graphic whore than PC.

But if you want to play on console because it's easier (big lol on this) or because you want to play on your couch with your TV (another big lol here), just buy a console and stop complain about graphics.
Next gen games are going to be very pretty, just enjoy things and stop bitching.

I know this wont be useful because... well people tend to act like they own the company they defend but still, it feels good to say it from time to time.
Big lols on you big lols.

In fairness to the studio, I very much enjoyed and finished their previous game The Observer. Blade Runner vibes throughout, and Rutger Hauer’s last role. RIP

Even if XsX misses out on RT, it’s still well worth checking out.

If Lockhart is indeed coming, this would also be the likely outcome as many predicted. You aim for the baseline and upgrade from there........if you can be bothered. It’s all about Investing the extra time and money between 2 targets.

Most devs, especially indies will just flip the resolution switch for XsX and be done.

Blooper is small developer. Besides, did you see the steam srp of the medium? This 100% on the software side, if true. Nothing to see here

During the State of Play, I think it was God Fall. You could notice little bits of ray tracing throughout the game, subtle, but present. At least to my eyes. I still don't believe RT is going to be as common and massive as we probably believe. The demands on resources are just to high. But the total lack of it, is somewhat concerning. Really suggests the devkits were lagging behind.

I think UE5 could be a very popular engine this coming generation. Especially if they can deliver on the promise of Lumin! Nearly imperceptible difference between their lighting solution and real RT at the cost they are touting... If you can get the same results at a much lower cost, why not? At that point you're just using RT so you can slap that icon on the box.
To be fair to real RT, lumen is more just for GI. I don't think it can replace RT for things like mirror surfaces.

God Fall has crazy amounts of RT. Every reflection is RT which is literally everywhere. Lighting obviously as well.

Probably not, but it probably helps save a lot on performance if you're just doing RT for reflective surfaces, since Lumen does a good job at GI.

Man, I can’t tell what sort of reflection is used where and when. This is why partial RT feels like such a waste to me. Use of heavy RT I appreciate makes a substantial difference, but we’re not there yet.

Maybe if I see it firsthand or something.

I used to think that, but given that beyond the low performance Minecraft demo we have seen none of it... I'm really starting to wonder what's going on at the xbox HQ.

While in the abstract I agree, the point of the 12Tf was to have both.

Probably reflections or shadows, or indirect lighting... who knows? The point is the console is about to be released and they have to remove it from the xbox console build.

I/O can help visuals, but not in this way. It will let better quality assets be downloaded to memory much faster, and often...

XSX sub 30fps 1080p... I think it was the first console RT demo released.

I assume it depends what effect and to what quality (if you run the RT at lower resolution, like in the GranTourismo demo you techincally have a native 4k image with half resolution reflections +

The RT effects were quarter resolution (1080p), assuming the game runs at 60+ fps it would still be a pretty good solution).
Pretty sure from the Digital Foundry video, they mentioned GT7 was the only game they saw that was using quarter resolution ray-traced effects. So I’m guessing it’s safe to assume a game like R&C was running at native 4K with full-resolution ray-traced reflections.
The first thing I notice right off the bat, those GPU-accelerated particles. That’s A LOT of particles for a gameplay sequence that’s running at native 4K, goddamn.

Yeah I wonder if that's accelerated in anyway on PS5 or if it's just using a lot of compute .

Yes it is, in fact I was amazed at how dense everything they had shown was, pretty darn impressive!

The sad thing is that on the surface current gen games look close at many levels, but there is so much more going on here, in all these next-gen games.

That made the whole MS event downright bad, before it I assumed their games would all feature some kind of RT effects (like current gen games with all the shine you can imagine)... and they would still be very impressive, obviously I expected to see all these running on the xbox series x as well, to show exactly how these cross gen games would look when pushed to their limits. Which according to xbox / gamepass fans is not relevant, even tho they are expected to pre-order this thing like crazy and we have nothing of substance running on the actual hardware so far--only around 4 months for release--which leads me to think something is afoot at the xbox HQ.

Notice how Phil has been silent as well, no more wait until the next show/reveal...

I noticed that those plasma beams (or whatever you call them) also drop shadows.

This is what you get for telling everyone you've got a massive donkey dick, and then unzipping to show everyone that half of it is your mum's favourite German sausage, that you just grabbed from the fridge.
...that's way too specific to be completely random.

We are saying something funny is going on that MS hadn't tried to show games running on Series X, 4 months from launch.

Back when Mid-Gen upgrades happened, both companies started to use the upgrade consoles for marketing. Because why not? Show your games at their best, right?

But somehow, Halo Infinite's showcase wasn't done on an Xbox Series X? WHY?

Something is up. We just don't know what it is yet.

Series X is not ready , even Microsoft 1st party studios don't know how to harness the power of their own hardware. Ray tracing is not a simple switch which will turn on just by flicking switch, it takes alot of resources and talents of the developers, which seems to be lacking in Xbox Studios.

It was fun(ny) while it lasted. All in all this is good news as consoles failing at RT this early in the cycle doesn't bode well for RT on consoles or PC as consoles supporting RT in games is pivotal to the tech moving forward as a whole.

You’re going to see a pattern. Do what you have to do to launch the game as close to XSX launch as possible. Add anything troublesome in later with a patch.

There is dedicated ray tracing hardware. It just takes longer to optimize and implement.

Or, it’s just an error.
