Resident Evil 8: Village |OT| Dat Atmosphere is THICC

I’m nearing the end and have taken my sweet ass time with it. Very fun to explore - fairly easy on normal but I don’t mind. Shooting actually isn’t bad at all once you upgrade your stuff and turn the acceleration off aiming. Some parts are genuinely horrifying, some are more action oriented - it’s a great mix. Would be incredible in VR as well. Having just played the re2-remake and re7 I can comfortably say this is better than both: Really well done

I'm really taking my time too. Love crawling the corner of every room to try and find every item. I would be playing it all day but have had family commitments. Looking forward to getting back on.

Finished. Loved it.
@J3nga yes. Even on 3080, I had to reload to menu and back to game from time to time.
I Liked most of it aside from the "doll" section/boss. It's shit. More crap like Lucas section from 7. Why do they feel the need to include this crap? Oh you have no weapons, see visions, it's all changing and you have to hide in the close. It's some indie crap but does not fit here.
Aside from that, most other stuff was great!

I have some questions, critique and completion time below. The game was not too short at all. The length is just right. Wtf are people saying it was too short?!
So if anyone knows the answers:

Took me 11 hours ingame time, 16 hours steam time. Weird as I did not leave steam running and I just played the game.
-What is the giant myocyte baby in the end? Is that a virus that was just always living there? Like ancient virus? so then why it looks like a baby?
-What is up with that giant baby having dna of all dead people?! what? Or all people it killed?
-I understand Miranda just found the virus 100 years ago
-Spencer is involved or not? It said he rejected all Miranda's crap so all other games are based on Africa virus strand

MOST IMPORTANT:
-Mia is fully human(healed in 7), Ethan is molded (but does not regenerate fingers... and can live without a heart). So why their baby is said to be so powerful ? what is happening ?!
edit: Still not as good as 4 and R2make... but close. Maybe it will grow on me as the time goes
edit2: WTF WOULD THEY STILL INSIST ON HIDDING ETHAN FACE?! WHAT IS THE POINT
Their daughter probably inherit a bioweapon power like Evelyn from RE7

I don't know what it is but the game feels so sluggish to control , like there is high input latency or something , don't get me wrong the game is great but controlling the camera feels so sluggish for some reason , it's one of those rare games where on series x I can feel the delay of movement of analog stick on my controller

There are a few 'forced' slow walking bits (in fact the opening of the game where you carry the baby is one).

In the options screen turn off all the motion assist and movement bob, and turn up the aim and camera movement to 7 or 8. Helps a lot.

The giant baby is created by Beneviento. Myocyte is mold, not virus.
Mold absorbs memories and DNA.
Miranda found mold, not virus.
Spencer was her student.

Eveline survived through Ethan and Mia and is reborn as Rose.

I wish there was an item locator like in RE7. Pixel hunting for gems in the ceiling can get irritating.

I know after a couple runs money and ammo will be useless anyways but still. Unless it unlocks separate from the store.

HDR exposes VRS rendering in front of you, you'll see light flickers on objects if you move back a little, annoying as hell and i just turned it off

That “motion” acceleration setting is complete horseshit. How that is the default I have no idea.

The game makes a pretty bad first impression with a very unpolished set piece and poor pacing.

But after entering the castle it became a god tier RE game. Great stuff!

I love the puzzly exploration.

Also, remember when almost 20 years ago we dreamed the time we would have the REmake graphics in 3D? We've made it!

Did anyone else notice the massive nod to The Autopsy of Jane Doe? Its a supernatural horror movie (a great one) about a kid and his coroner dad who are examining the body of an unnamed woman. Needless to say all kinds of fuckery ensues over the cause of the movie.

The area in question is the beneviento house. In the movie, the coroner has his shop set up under his house. They get down using a shitty elevator which is similar to the one in the game. Its incredibly obvious the second you ride the elevator down, even the layout is very very similar.

Definitely go watch the movie and see for yourself, its actually one of the few really good horror movies out there.

Yes, I am sure about it.
My speculations: there are two consciousnesses in Rose. Evelyn's and Rose's. Perhaps in the future Evelyn's will take over a full control and it will be a plot for the next installment.

Binged the rest today after doing up to the 4 masks last night, 10hr clear time on normal, felt like I took my time exploring areas and saw a lot of the content.

Really enjoyed it! Feels like 7 meets 4 which is what it looked like from afar. Usual RE gameplay hooks that make me never want to put the thing down, writing is diabolical as always but it's part of the charm and in this one it really feels like they're playing into that.

Really isn't much to say on it, it's what it says on the tin. Maybe thought the Dimitrescu family would have a more prominent role overall but it didn't detract that they didn't.

I’m really loving this game. I’m on the last quarter of the game I think and I’ve just been in awe of the graphics and the pacing. Two huge thumbs up. What a fun game.

I'm surprised by the people who play hardcore and have ammo to spare. I reached a part (I think I have about 2/3 of the game completed) where I can't progress because I simply don't have enough ammo to kill an incoming boss. In previous bosses the game was kind enough to place some spare ammo in the boss arena just in case, but there is not enough here. I'll need to go back two hours or so. I was tricked by some areas with infinite respawns which I should have run through ignoring everything.

I try to explore around, although I've been tricked twice by the story pushing you out of an area where I still had things to investigate, with no way back.

Did 3 areas just now. I think the game holds a consistent quality so far. I'll admit castle Dumitrescu was by far my fave of the bunch but in the end its another castle with another tyrant chasing you. Its just that the castle had the most exposition, the most character development and interactions with the enemy.

I liked

The escape room, which is the second area. Its boss is sort of there. You happen to beat it when you beat the room. But it was extremely unsettling and I liked the puzzles, it was a part without any sort of shootbang. The Reservoir I also enjoyed. It has some tense encounters, and then a tense puzzle with a huge lake monster on your ass. It kind of mixes the previous 2 areas with both action and escape room puzzling. I wish there was some more exploration on the boat though, it reminded me of that RE5 level where you needed to search a handful of islands for keys. I wasted a lot of ammo on the boss, he was the hardest so far. On my way to the fourth.

The pacing is a lot like RE3R. Its fast, but there is more downtime, more exploration and more puzzling here. Village is a rather big game, because while its not as long as RE4 it plays much faster and has no filler at all.

And Credits roll

What a damned good game, possibly my GotY at this rate, that End boss is not gonna be fun at higher difficulties and as a father of young kids, I gotta admit that ending got me...

As a ranking for best RE game, its up there, RE2 has been my top one for so long

Anyone else feel capcom rushed this?

I mean Lady D's segment is way longer then the other houses.

House number 2 is really short.

Hey guys, need help, don't want to read any spoilers, so apologies if this has been discussed:

Playing on my Series X, is it normal that only the left trigger vibrates on this game? I tried vibrating the controller in the configuration and both triggers vibration work.

Question for everyone who have reach that part

Heavy Spoiler !!!!!

Is it true that...

Ethan is a mold
Yes. I mean it literally states and full explains it all in game with no other way to interpret it.

Just finished it as well. Pretty great game, a bit easy on standard but still really good.

And damn I completely lost my shit with Heisemberg refering to Chris as the "boulder-punching asshole"

Just finished it, it’s a solid sequel 9.0 and 8.4 for RE7. Capcom definitely mixed it up this time. My least expected in the beginning villain aka the third boss fight, turned out my favorite fight In the game. Capcom took best parts of RE4 and the Evil Within and fused them together. I wonder how difficult it must be to innovate without Mikami‘s innovative mind, so they still had to rely on the older games for tricks to surprise us. A lot of mystery was killed when developers had revealed every major villain early in the game. I would have probably kept them hidden, it was part of the charm in earlier RE games.

A few considerations after having killed Lady D:

It's Vaas all over again. Cool unique character. Heavily marketed. Ends up being dispatched very early in the game.
She's got nothing on Mr. X. She is so easily avoidable, it's comical. Here comes Lady D, run to Duke's little room!
Great ass. Like, literally.

I am playing on Stadia. Performance is pretty good but there are some stutters here and there.

I just got out of the house after the castle. I'm really enjoying how much this has re4's feel but also is very weird. I'm interested to see really what is going on with the plot here.

I'm most of the way through the game and I'm loving this far more than I ever did with RE7. Having a more action focused RE4 styled approach was brilliant and it's working perfectly for me. Looking forward to getting to the end now so I can start my next playthrough.

That demon baby scared the crap out of me when it first showed up. I was running down that hallway when it's head came around the corner. I've never noped so hard in my life.

Extra bosses?

There is extra encounters if you look for them that are not mandatory to advance the story , though I imagine anyone exploring will run into these encounters.

The graveyard tombstone needing the plaque for example has an encounter with a big Tyrant axe leaping dude. Massive bullet sponge.

There is another one of him in another spot, as well as an extra encounter with a big bad ass Lycan you don't have to fight.

First half is good, second half is ok, does get a bit boring. Ethan being the most boring mainline playable character doesn't help either, at least I'm glad what happened to him in the end. Best part is the 20 minutes sequence in that corridor with the baby thing, the only real tense moment. Castle lady is fun and entertaining, otthers quite forgettable. Wish I'd get it on sale.

If they go back to 3rd person angle RE9 could see some nice outfits mods like RE2 remake for that likely main character, certainly makes me a bit more excited for the next one.

I am bummed that Reverse has no release date and didn't launch with RE8.

I actually dig it and can't wait to play.
