TOO much emphasis on DLSS, people need to understand that Engine optimization is what is going to help even more than something that is propriety of nvidia. Some games like Death Stranding it helps make a better 4k image. But I would argue that engine at that time, was designed for a subset of hardware that was 7 years old. Unreal 4 games seem to scale super well without DLSS. I want to see more games bein natively rendered.

DLSS is something that was designed to give better performance on turing because of the giant hit Ray tracing took. Newer engines designed around new hardware like Unreal 5 are going to show that DLSS isn't the be all.

I want a minimum of 60fps and a high as possible resolution WITH raytracing. DLSS is a solution that makes it possible. I'm sure it wont be the only solution as developers will be forced to think of something that also works on consoles. AMD needs to show the way though as its their hardware.

Good god, Xbox is truly fucked

How so?

I think they are just behind. ANd part of that which I got dog piled on by couple people on this site, was explained that MS is working on Direcstorage features as part of Direct X 12 Ultimate re-write they are doing across PC/CONSOLE.

I think we will see XBox series X be a fine piece of tech and be on par with optimizations being done for PC hardware. I just think the way they develop games are going to be constrained to APi re-writes on Windows 10/Direct x 12 updates as more hardware releases.

It's going to improve, but it also it mostly being software based is going to show how forward thinking Cerny was with making custom hardware that does all of what we are talking about purely on hardware level without the need of complete re-writes on different engines by different developers.

I don't disagree with you, but DLSS is a band-aid for true engine advances, and better hardware that is able to do ray tracing without it taking a hit in rasterization compute units. Notice that whats happening in hardware? We are increasing the amount of compute units/shader units/tensor cores just to do both rasterization and ray tracing. We literally have to dedicate hardware towards just Ray tracing.

Same thing happened with Physx, but now that is all done within engines and did not take off.

The revolution in gpu fabrication and gpu core tech is changing forever in the next year or so. DLSS wont even matter after this change.

Chiplets are the future.

The problem is in deciding what to get right now. By the time DLSS is useless its time for a new GPU anyway.

At this point I don't know anymore.
Ps5 and PC both seem good to me.

Ps5 is cheaper, will probably still offer great performance to price ratio and I tend to really like Sony first party exclusives.
PC is more expensive but will offer better performance and more flexibility, it's usually also more future proof in terms of forward compatibility of games, and free multiplayer as well as much cheaper games do help offset the price a bit.

At this point I'll probably wait for benchmarks on the new GPU's as well as the Ps5, and then decide if the price difference is actually worth it for me.

With 2GHz OC 3090 will be 42TF GPU, with DLSS and much faster RT on top of that both XSX / PS5 looks kinda weak :messenger_winking:. I wonder if 3090 will be fast enough to run UE5 tech demo at 4K 60fps.

Anyone who is not willing to wait for big navi is either only interested in consoles, or they are making a mistake. I'll give only one hint.

Samsung 8nm vs TSMC 7nm.
I am a big AMD fan but I would be surprised if they were able to be in full competition with the 3080(Ti). HBM2 was a killer, then wasn't. And all the other stuff.
Hope they'll pull something out of the bag, we'll see. Don't give a fuck about RT, fps in 1440p for me.
Deffo not getting into a pissing match like those consoleros.

So 67.1% will buy PS5 total combined and 13% will buy xbox.

Sounds about right assuming it is somewhat global audience that answered.

If I win in a lottery, I wil get em all, but meanwhile just PS5

3080 as soon as I can find one to buy and probably PS5 down the line when there are enough exclusives to justify the console. I have 0 interest in Sony's first party output, so we're talking 3rd party games that only release on PS5, which means by the time I finally decide to get one, chances are it will be a refresh, possibly even mid gen upgrade.
I'm also not expecting AMD to have anything competitive in the 3080 bracket (hardware + features etc, DLSS2+ vs Native benchmarks are going to be a bloodbath), so there's no point to wait for Big Navi.

And btw, how comes I can't vote in the polls? Do you need to be a member before you can use the feature? Seems odd to restrict it...

Maybe I am blind but I don't see the option -PS5 XBSX and Ampere, are you assuming that if someone chose one console the other automatically gets out of the equation?

Anyway I can't vote since such option doesn't exist.

Sony has been the main purveyor of games for me in the last 20 years or so--obtaining a PS5 at some point in the future is the only real option, unless Sony releases all their games on PC, then I may have to consider this platform as my main place for gaming.

Well, I was on team ps5 and was super into it but this new Nvidia stuff (probably amd too) makes me really want to jump ship and build new computer. I could afford both but i really don't have the time to really use more than one.

The ps5 games coming to PC , the lack of machine learning in the ps5, and the lack of more details are driving me nuts! Haha

If Demon's souls is ps5 only,my decision is made but I am truly unsure now. I need a psvr2 as well but Sony just isn't sharing enough right now.

Ampere for best tech. Switch 2 for best games.

I might get one of them sony/ms things from a second hand bargain bin in five years time if there is anything worth buying for them.

Going to put together a mid/high end PC and use it almost exclusively for indie games and old stuff. I guess I'll give Cyberpunk a try too. I'll probably go Ampere 3070, but will wait to see what AMD has with Big Navi. I'm guessing Big Navi will be be a bit faster than 3070 but not 3080, include more VRAM than either, but lack a DLSS/RTX equivalent. I'm also curious about power consumption since 5700 xt already uses 220 watts on 7nm.

3000 Series and a PS5 when they show me some stuff I want to play enough to invest upwards of $600 because its exclusive.

2x3080 gpus (me and my wife),and a PS5 for the occasional exclusive. We already own 2xSwitches and have another 2 years of gamepass ultimate cause like Aerosmith said "I don't wanna miss a thang"

Because these new Ampere cards are power hungry they won't work on my old 2013 Alienware X51, which has a really power efficient 1060gtx. It's been rock solid and served me well. I'd probably need to build a new PC unless the 3060 is below 140w - unlikely 😑

So I'll be going PS5 first.

My plan is to get a 3080 and PS5. Probably won't get a PS5 at launch though.

From the title, the only thing I plan on buying out of that list is the PS5. My PC's upgrade is too recent for me to really want anything more than what I've currently got until there's another gen or two of cards released.
