This game looks dope. I don't get why people are shitting on it

I was thinking about how this conversation is likely to go and think it's going to end up talking about the definition of "in-game" and talking about builds.. The latter is sadly an unknown and therefore rather uninteresting to me. The former does get fun to have a talk about.Problem is we've seen the gameplay and it does not fucking look like this.
When did sequels become anything else.Build off the spiderman remaster engine and release the new game in 3 years or go all in on creating new tech/graphics and let players wait 5-6 years for the new game.
I think Insomniac made the right choice.
Because they wanted something that doesn’t exist, the nebulous “next gen” stuff when the original spidey was already remastered for next gen
Some folks seem to expect ps6 graphics out of ps5
Graphics looks fine imo.
The thing that stuck out for me was the lackluster/missing water physics in such a long water section, won’t be a problem for the game itself but you can’t unsee it once you do see it when everything else is of high quality.
Very summarized:
Biggest improvements they see are environmental details (specially the buildings) and water rendering.
Being able to instantly switch from Peter to Miles without a loading screen or long transition is cool but we still don't know if it's something you'll be able to do at any time or just in specific moments.
Other than that it seems similar to the previous games but the only footage we have is of a pretty fast paced sequence so it's hard to analyze the finer details right now
So it is getting shipped with N64 grafix?
No, it doesn't. Because the screenshots are way oversaturated.Problem is we've seen the gameplay and it does not fucking look like this.
no those screenshots have way better lighting than original showcase , and there is only 2 options here :1- those are bull shots ,. 2- those are from newer build for the game ,and i realty hope option 2 is correct oneNo, it doesn't. Because the screenshots are way oversaturated.
Like, I know the demo was a graphical disappointment, but calling these bullshots is a stretch. There's no boost in texture quality or anything. It's literally just saturation.
Why do you think they are touched up? Photo mode, sure, but you think they altered them in something like Photoshop?Nice touched up screenshots insomniac.
Shame they are on damage control, for the wider audience when the game will be great.
I think that's a little reductive.Because they wanted something that doesn’t exist, the nebulous “next gen” stuff when the original spidey was already remastered for next gen

Never said the sequel had to be in a new engine. I don’t think you understood my post. When did sequels become anything else.
We've had the same shit with GoW and even originally Horizon FW when It was first shown.
Since when is a sequel meant to be an entirely new engine
And then there's the hyperbole of the game I won't name because I get in trouble which is a sequel and did take 6 years and is basically has the same graphics as when the first one launched which now in 2023 is ugly
Im seeing a lot of profiles without pictures who you've never seen before in this thread saying some pretty console war like stuff but hey who am I
The sad thing is...even with the Bullshots it still looks like a PS4 game and still worse than SM1.They heard wrong. We are hungry for next Gen graphics and gameplay. Not more mediocrity.
Nice bullshots though. The flying section looks nothing like that. Miles combat section too.
Someone did a comparison of these shots in the original thread. Difference was pretty stark. Either the demo was an older build or insomniac is pushing bullshots like it is 2007.
When near every SP AAA release for the last decade have been open world the open world excuse holds no water. It's open world with RT, not sure what people were expecting, this is what these consoles are capable of.
Here's an image from that scene I had captured from the trailer, looks better than both of the above IMO.
Dude outside of a near unnoticable implementation of RTrelections the water was just brought back up to SM1 pre remastered quality. The following is the summary of Digital Foundry's analysis of Spider-Man 2:
There is an extra forward facing light source. No, it doesn't. Because the screenshots are way oversaturated.
Like, I know the demo was a graphical disappointment, but calling these bullshots is a stretch. There's no boost in texture quality or anything. It's literally just saturation.
I mean thats how sequels and game development works. It would be expensive and really stupid to redo all the work for animations and also make development take like 10 years.
Gameplay is also obviously same, its a sequel, we dont expect it to suddenly become resident evil 4
I just hate the lighting or time of day that they used for these screenshots/gameplay.
i was agreeing with you.Never said the sequel had to be in a new engine. I don’t think you understood my post.
Also GOWR and Horizon FB were cross gen games aka ps4 games that were slightly enhanced for PS5 so no one expected a big leap for those games once it was revealed that they were cross gen.
In the past, you did see big leaps for some sequels especially if they were released exclusively for new hardware. But today that’s going to be less and less the case because these games take too long to make so it’s easier to just make the sequel slightly better instead of massively different tech wise to cut down on dev time. That’s exactly why we have gotten so much cross gen games along with other reasons.
it does when it uses ray tracing, these consoles simply arent powerful enough, AMD is no NVIDIA in the RT department. When near every SP AAA release for the last decade have been open world the open world excuse holds no water.
People have seen and played UE5 demos and are very spoiledBecause they wanted something that doesn’t exist, the nebulous “next gen” stuff when the original spidey was already remastered for next gen

This particular screenshot is just very unflattering. Lighting is bad aesthetically not technically. The pose is just terrible, shoulders and chest look too narrow.
Maybe photo mode, but the one where Spidy is squirrel flying looks particularly strangely touched up. His costume and the character looks like its been worked. Maybe we will see how photo mode looks at launch, but yeah they look photo shopped to me.Why do you think they are touched up? Photo mode, sure, but you think they altered them in something like Photoshop?
God of war 2 to 3 was a big leap, Red dead 1 to 2 was a big leap, last of us 1 to 2 was a big leap…. there are a few examples.i was agreeing with you.
but now i very much disagree, in the past sequels absolutely weren't big leaps and we would get new games almost yearly, the leap from jak 2 - 3 was minimal with the biggest being jak 1 - 2, but that is as much of a leap as we are seeing from SM1 to 2. There's very few games in the past where each time we got a new entry in the title it was some huge leap in visuals. unless you want to use FF6-7 as an example which wouldn't make sense considering that's a literal leap from 2D to 3D. even the ps360 , i can probably count on one hand the number of times a games sequel came out on the same hardware and was a literal leap in generation of fidelity. Uncharted 1 - 2 is one of the few that comes to mind.
He looks like an avocadoThis particular screenshot is just very unflattering. Lighting is bad aesthetically not technically. The pose is just terrible, shoulders and chest look too narrow.
Fixed it for youBecause they wanted something that probably will miraculously appear out of nowhere (almost like they're holding it back) once PS5 sales slow down, the likely achievable “next gen” stuff that will embarrass the original spidey was already remastered for next gen

Is morales gonna be shoehorned into every spiderman game now?
That's from PC build version. This one is the most bullshot'ish of them all
I don't think insomniac has the balls to kill peter in this one but you never know with sony studios these days...I hope we are not forced to play as him much. I don't get the point of this character, except to get those sweet ESG points.
