Ill buy the console at launch (hopefully) anyway just to space out the purchases. I knew a guy that preordered a PS4 and didnt get it for a month.

Planning on $500 for the console. I like to pick up 2 to 3 games at launch even if they aren't exactly for me.

That PS2 launch won't be beaten any time soon.

People keep saying Playstation 2 had a good lineup... did it? Because that’s not what I remember.

I do agree that fall 2001 was friggin’ epic: FFX, GT3, MGS2, GTA3, Ico, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry, and Jak and Daxter.

The PS2’s first year lineup was legendary. To bring it into context, imagine if next year saw the release of Final Fantasy 16, Gran Turismo 7, Metal Gear Solid 6, GTA 6, a new Team Ico game, a Silent Hill reboot, Devil May Cry 5 and Jak and Daxter 4... all exclusive for PS5 (or timed exclusive, in some cases). That’s what it would take to truly surpass the PS2.

Spider-Man alone is probably the best launch game they've ever had.

Better than Tekken Tag Tournament and TimeSplitters? Fucking grade A bullshit. That's without considering that sports games back in the day just were overall more meaningful with the progress being done and you had NHL2001 and FIFA2001 and SSX having a lot of pull in terms of the new generation.

Better than Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm (EU bro)? Nah, bro. Had they had Spiderman (2018) and a new Souls game been the games, then sure, maybe it'd win out. But while Infamous 1 and 2 were awesome, Infamous:SS was just "okay". Same can be said when they made Killzone:Shadow Fall after Killzone 3 and Killzone:Mercenary. Just rehashing a formula isn't as defining as establishing one. Getting games that define a next-gen leap is essential, otherwise it's just an "okay" launch, just like PS1 and PS4 was. Honestly if it doesn't have Demon's Souls remake as a launch title, it might be below PS4, but above PS1.

Can I play any of these games? Is there at least reviews for those titles?

Why are you so defensive?

Don't get me wrong I'm getting PS5 day one, and for the upgrades to games I love alone I think it will be a great acquisition, but c'mon now, believing marketing departments is just naive.
"Can I play any of these games? Is there at least reviews for those titles?" No, of course you cannot play those games or check the reviews because we are talking about upcoming titles. What kind of point are you trying to make by asking that stupid question?

And I'm not saying that you should buy into the statement of "this is the best line-up that we've ever seen in the history of PlayStation" just because a marketing guy said that, but because of there's a lot of truth to that statement. Again, just look at the list of how many first-party titles they unveiled back in june and how close those - and also the unannounced ones (Silent Hill, Kouno's project, Arrowhead, etc) - really are.

Don't just look at it their own internal studios

Out of the 8 first party games they've revealed, 4 of them are being developed by third-party studios.

True, Sony has always had its share of "2nd Party" activity. They've been more weak on this side than usual IMO (especially since they don't have to support an "extra pillar" of a portable PlayStation anymore... RIP Vita,) but recently they've had Predator: Hunting Grounds, MediEvil, ReadySet Heroes, Erika, some VR stuff like Iron Man VR, Blood & Truth, and Tilt Brush, and even the AAA contract project Death Stranding.)

And while 2020 had a one-two megaton punch with TLoU2 and Ghost of Tsushima, their offices have otherwise been pretty quiet for a while now. I think a lot of us assumed Sony had so few PS4 games in the pipe (their 2020 line-up was basically the only games left from their 2018&2019 E3s) because they've been stacking up PS5 games, and the list we've seen shows some of that, but not enough to really feel like a hoarder's paradise.

So, while we're talking about it, we might as well list Sony's studios...

ALREADY PART OF PS5 LINE-UP
  • Insomniac Games:
    • Has Spider Man Miles Morales in 2020 launch and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart in 2021-ish
    • Released Stormland VR in 2019 (and a Magic Leap game?!), Spider-Man in 2018.
    • Workhorse studio if there ever was one, might they have MORE to come? (Stormland seems perfect for PS5VR.)
  • Guerrilla Games:
    • Has Horizon Forbidden West in 2021.
    • Released Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017 and a PC port in 2020.
    • Does it have the staff for a second game?
  • Japan Studio:
    • Has Astro's Playroom in 2020 launch by ASOBI Team and Demons' Soul contracted to Bluepoint in 2020/2021.
    • Released Knack 2 and LocoRoco 2 Remastered in 2017.
    • Internal studios have been painfully quiet for so, so long (Puppeteer and Knack 1 were in 2013, and Team Silent's Gravity Rush 2 was in 2017, ASOBI Team's Astro Bot Rescue Mission in 2018) and hopefully they have bigger plans under new boss Nicolas Doucet?
    • SIE Japan often is a producer with outside developers (Acquire and ClapHanz and Pyramid and Q-Games Alfa System are frequent collaborators, also Bluepoint, who are the collab team for DS,) and maybe they have some of those projects to come for PS5? (Japan Studio used to be the heavy supporter of portable games, and it was hoped that after Vita those efforts would pivot to console/VR, but that never seemed to happen last-gen unfortunately.) Also note that Japan usually holds its cards until TGS-time in Sept even when games launch that year, so there's possibly a few more PS5 games from Japan Studio, or maybe they'll stick around and be the PS4 after-care arm of Sony?
  • Polyphony Digital:
    • Has Gran Turismo 7 indeterminate release date.
    • Released Gran Turismo Sport in 2017.
    • Unlikely to have further projects for immediate future.
PS5 LINE-UP PLANS TO COME
  • Bend Studio:
    • Released Days Gone in 2019.
    • Not a big studio and not historically prolific. Maybe has Days Gone Enhanced / Expansion to come? Also may be busy with a PC port, as that's Sony's playbook right now.
  • London Studio:
    • Released Blood & Truth PSVR in 2019, SingStar Celebration in 2017.
    • Used to be one of Sony's big-three production arms (both internal and contract development,) but seems to have fallen off a cliff after its PS3 run (and even then, it's big projects 8 Days and The Getaway PS3 dissolved.) Was often the "Casual Games" studio with SingStar and EyePet and DanceStar and WonderBook, we'll see if they go back to that well again.
    • Does a lot of the internal prototype-type projects (EyeToy, PlayStation Home, PlayStation VR Worlds,) maybe they're doing some interface/backend work again?
  • Media Molecule:
    • Released Dreams in 2020, Tearaway Unfolded in 2015.
    • Has got to be working on Dreams for PS5, maybe even for PC.
  • Naughty Dog:
    • Released The Last of Us Part II in 2020, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017.
    • Not the type to have multiple projects in heavy works at the same time, but they do make stand-alone expansions, so maybe a story add-on ala Lost Legacy or The Last of Us: Left Behind (both released one year later) are in order, if not a full Multiplayer add-on/side-game. Also TLoU2 enhancements are likely.
  • Pixelopus:
    • Released Concrete Genie in 2019, Entwined in 2014.
    • Small studio. Genie was already a huge step up in scope, seems unlikely they have more new stuff for a little while?
  • San Diego Studio:
    • Released MLB The Show in 2020, 2019, 2018...
    • Surely has MLB The Show PS5 in the works.
  • San Mateo Studio:
    • Has never released anything. This is more of a Producer's Hub, where they hire contract studios and manage projects (sometimes creatively, sometimes just time&money) from afar. They are, as described on the official page, "The core collaborators."
    • Their PS4 project contracts have included Counterspy, Helldivers and Farpoint VR, as well as many other projects not credited to SIE San Mateo/Foster City, like probably Predator and ReadySet. They could be shopping for PS5 partners to do similar things...
  • Santa Monica Studio:
    • Released God of War PS4 in 2018, God of War Ascension in 2013.
    • Supposedly has God of War PS5 in the works.
  • Sucker Punch Productions:
    • Released Ghost of Tsushima in July
    • Has a multiplayer Ghost of Tsushima feature coming out for PS4; PS5 version of GoT likely.

Then that means more than 2 or 3, 1st party studio exclusives?

Ps4 launched with more Killzone. Knack and Resogun
PS3 launched with Resistance and Genji

Ontop of the 3rd party titles

Nothing beats the UK Dreamcast Launch lineup lol

Just show me that Demons Soul's at or close to launch and "that's all you had to say, *****!". Nothing else matters unless you got Elden Ring ready too.

That PS2 launch won't be beaten any time soon.

Not really fair when that is launch plus 7 months of games if you're talking about the North American launch. Unless we ignore it's real launch day in Japan.

(Japan Studio used to be the heavy supporter of portable games, and it was hoped that after Vita those efforts would pivot to console/VR, but that never seemed to happen last-gen unfortunately.) • Insomniac is also working on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Brian Intihar) and maybe the VR team has something in the works as well.
  • Guerrilla already has established a second team within the studio, which is working on a game headed by former Rainbow Six creatives.
  • Japan Studio has five internal teams plus their external development department. We only know about two of their internal projects - Demon's Souls (Gavin Moore) and Astro's Playroom (Nicolas Doucet, Asobi! Team) - but there's still a ton of unannounced stuff, including the Silent Hill soft-reboot (Keiichiro Toyama, Project Siren/Team Gravity), a new AAA IP (Tsutomu Kouno) and a potential Ape Escape revival (Iljima, "Knack Team").
  • London Studio apparently is working on an Horizon VR game in collaboration with another studio. They also have a separate branch working on console stuff, but that team has been through a lot of trouble recently so I wouldn't expect to hear from them anytime soon.
  • There's also a new unannounced Sony first-party studio in San Diego which since 2018 has been working on something. Some of their developers have background in multiplayer games and ¿fighting games?, but also story-heavy and "cinematic" action games as well. Who knows what they've been up to.

... um, Cool.... they gonna share what those games are and release dates anytime soon? Cuz as many have stated, talk is cheap and less than reliable these days.

Hopefully it means more game announcements? Cause it looks a bit bare bones atm to me...Like most other generations!

The real winners will be PC+PS5 or PS5+XSX purchasers. Sooo many games to play this Holiday. PC or XSX for multiplatforms(AC, WD, Cyberpunk), The Medium, Scorn, CrossfireX, PS5 for Spiderman and Demons Soul's.

If they put Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clank for launch line up I'm game, and that Spiderman game, but right now Sony is talking the same way that MS is. JUST WAIT AND SEE. Oh well

SlimySnake

Flashless at the Golden Globes
- Spiderman: MM
- Demon Souls: Remake
- Kena
- Rachet and Clank
- CyberPunk
- AC: Vahalla
- Plus more 3rd party games

That looks great to me, so far.
Demon and Spiderman had no gameplay and ratcet and kena gameplay looked pretty mediocre. nothing to jerk off to. the rest are current gen games that this sony guy isnt talking about.

they need to show games and when i saw show, i mean gameplay. and it better look better than the ratchet gameplay.

The execs always say this prior every new generation launch, and yet the launch lineups are getting worse and worse with each new console, so much that the the upcoming systems will be pretty much gameless for anyone with a decent PC... Let's just hope 1st half of 2021 will be much better.

This is like every Heavy Metal band about to release their next album and saying: "this is the heaviest album we ever made".

Really? so is Demon Souls Remake, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Zero Dawn 2, and Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart lauching day 1 with the PS5 if not than hell to the no lol

ExKing

says GAF is a racist board but still wants to be a part of it...
He is Sony marketing guy, of course he is going to say that...

So, a remake of an old game and glorified expansion and that's best lineup?

This guy sounds like Phil. And not in a good way

I mean it expected what else is he gone to say our lineup is shit don't bother to buy the PS5 at launch or something like that lol no they all hype up the company they worked for.

This would be the GREATEST launch line up in history. Plus it'll be the DUMBEST launch line up in history. Why would Sony even want to launch the PS5 with all those games?

Don't want to argue, but since when are Ratchet, Returnal and gt7 confirmed for first year?

It's all guesswork obviously. Given the extensive demo for Ratchet, the development time for Returnal, and 2021 is around the time for a new GT, it's not outlandish to assume they'll be out for the first year.

Imran has said they've spent a lot of money to make sure they have a big first year.

They spent a lot of money = they secured a lot of third party exclusives as I understand.

I don't know why they would bother to pay Bethesda big money if they have their own exclusives ready.
