Americans stop projecting your culture on the rest of the world.

This is a case of the rest of the world using elements from our culture. Everyone's culture has been shared with others in the world because of how information moves and is accessed. But blackface is simply offensive because of how OTT it is. Blackface in america is offensive because of more than just how OTT the makeup is but because the imagery is normally associated with a large number of negative stereotypes back in the day.

The problem stems from it being included in hollywood production and various media, which has then since been transmitted across the globe and most likely influenced others in different countries without realizing the source of it. Blackface isn't really racist. It doesn't embody hate, it embodies ignorance. And sometimes ignorance is just as bad as hate.

I was doing a call back to the Jackson jive thread.

Just saw it on Kulturnyheterna.

It was disturbing more than anything else IMO.

And now I will eat this Swedish pastry.

Can you guess what this is called? :)

It kinda looks like this pastry I saw in a middle eastern market that translates to "nigger kiss" iirc. Don't know if that is the same thing.

I definitely like white cake much better than double chocolate. I can see why people are bitching.

Not a chance. The more chocolate on the cake the better IMO.

My sister in law makes a coconut cakes covering chocolate syrup that I call cocaine cake because it is so damn addictive.

I can't help but read the thread title in a Chris Morris on The Day Today voice.

"TEENAGE BOY ROASTS HIMSELF IN SACRIFICE TO CHRIS KELLY"
"MINISTER IN RACIST CIRCUMCISION OUTAGE"
"AND HEADMASTER SUSPENDED FOR USING BIG-FACED CHILD AS SATELLITE DISH"

It's seriously a freaky-ass picture. Ugh. Makes it worse that there is a plethora of clueless white people gleefully smiling at the grotesque cake.

it is this that is the core of the art installation. The white people of various cultural importance laughing and photographing the screaming blackface girl being eaten alive.

I do wonder what the thread would look like if the title was "Black Artist Makes Black Person Cake to Protest Female Circumcision," and had a picture of the artist (without makeup) in the OP in addition to the pic already there.

It's weird to hear that blackface is a purely American boogeyman...but without that context in their culture I suppose I could see why Europeans have no clue. I mean, the Dutch have a pretty well-meaning holiday tradition of it. I guess because it's not black people they're referencing?

Focus people.

This is about cutting out pieces of vagina's. This happens in Africa as part of tradition.

They made a cake to symbolize this and give attention to these inhumane habits.

The story goes beyond what you see. It is ignorant to call racism just based on the picture.

What about cutting pieces of penis? How come no one made a cake about that to highlight the issue, since its a part of tradition in some places?

And slight correction they don't out pieces of vagina, they cut out the labia and the clitoris. Vagina is left intact.

Well we do have icecream called Nogger Black and 88 in Sweden. We also have chocolate coconut balls which are often called... yeah I think you can figure it out.

I am personally disturbed by all this, but most people in this country don't seem to be able to realize how offensive this is.

Looked like this?

Yes that's it, it tasted good actually. I don't know if it was negro kiss or nigger kiss because the name was written in Arabic letters, and they usually don't write out the vowels so it was written as "ngr" kiss.

Are you kidding me?

had to come out eventually

Maybe in some fucked up way this was actually his message. That the entire event and the people involved was his "art" and the people laughing while eating the crotch of a screaming female blackface cake was all apart of the overall message he was trying to convey. That the west doesn't give a fuck about female circumcision in Africa. That's all I got for why he decided to go through with this.

Actually, I think it's pretty good. Watching the video is disturbing, and it makes you think of mutilation. He did a good job in transcribing the horror of the thing.

He might have made a mistake in how he depicted black people but that comes after the message to me.

And if the white people laughing were part of the exposition then yes it is genius.

This requires more explanation...

Let me give you some facts that will help you in life.

Blackface is racist. Period. The percentage of situations in which blackface would be appropriate is so small as to be statistically negligible. The fact that Sweden just happens to have fewer black people around to make their voices heard about it does not make it less racist.

People who supposedly need to have this explained to them are feigning ignorance. Blackface is not only offensive because of its history. Blackface is offensive because it clearly caricatures black ethnicity, distorting African features to portray blacks as ugly and subhuman. Everyone knows this, but some people will resort to intellectual dishonesty in order to defend racist practices.

I do wonder what the thread would look like if the title was "Black Artist Makes Black Person Cake to Protest Female Circumcision," and had a picture of the artist (without makeup) in the OP in addition to the pic already there.

The minister can't be racist, she has a black friend! The artist is an idiot looking for publicity, and he is hijacking an important cause - female circumcision - for his own benefit.

When I first moved to Australia, I briefly shared a house with a Swedish couple who were also recent arrivals. On our first trip to a cafe together, the guy went up to the counter to see what they had, then innocently asked 'are those nigger balls?'.

I know Australians have a reputation for being racist, but man, that did not go down well with anyone.

Really? I always hear Australians talk about how people usually view others based on where they're from(ie US, UK, Canada) rather than their race. But then again they did have all those fucked up immigration laws back in the day....

This is the sickest thing I've seen in a while.

I understand the "art" point of it I guess but it's still sick and the people laughing while cutting is just really disgusting to me.

They guy was obviously didn't know the correct translation. 'Nigger balls' wouldn't be the correct translation. The Swedish word is (was, until it became politically incorrect) 'negerboll', where 'neger' does not translate into 'nigger'. Although now often considered a derogatory term it traditionally pretty much just meant a black man.

As for the ice cream stuff you gotta be fucking delusional to think the intention there is even remotely racist.

88 is my favourite Ice Cream
although there is no connection with Nazism and the icecream I think I would take the Gary Whitta approach if there were
