This guy hasn’t gotten anything wrong before, so you can more or less take it as an official announcement.
An official announcement of what? That Sony will at some point have a show and announce third party games? That's an inevitability. I'm not giving some insider credit for stating the obvious.

You answered your own question. You already bought a PS5 on the ethereal promise of them, they don't have to show you anything, and won't as long as they keep selling consoles hand over fist.

Which games are these please? Other than spiderman 2 I genuinely don't know
  1. Spider-Man 2
  2. Stellar Blade
  3. Horizon Call of the Mountain
  4. Firewall Ultra
  5. MLB The Show 23
  • Helldivers 2 hasn't been announced officially yet, but it will be released this year.
In addition, I didn't count:
  • Gran Turismo 7 PS VR 2 version.
  • Horizon Burning Shores expansion/DLC (PS5 only).

No I got the ps5 after I made a few sales of junk I don't want towards the ps5. And decided to keep it because it's the 1200 series AND the fan that I want.

I also decided to get one because I wanted to play the new god of war as well as final fantasy 16 and 7 remake part 2 and GT7 ( if I find it used dirt cheap )

Couldn’t care less about SIE published games by third party studios. I am talking about games from their first party studios we like. No one gives a shit about helldivers.
Well, then that's just your personal preference. You asked for first-party games, and these are first-party games by definition. Who cares about who owns a studio at the time of the release?

Spider-Man (that you are so excited about) was also not by a first-party studio back when it released.

Moreover, these games aren't just developed by "third-party studios." They are also co-developed by XDev, which are in-house PlayStation Studios teams.

And I'm hella excited for Helldivers 2.
Where the hell is Spider-Man? Tlou3? Wolverine? Cory’s New ip thats been in dev since 2018? Ghost of tsushima 2? Almost three years since the first came out and no teaser?
If AAA games take ~5 years to make, it means those games would still be at least 2 years away. Why would they want to show a game that's 2 years away? It's fine if they show those games closer to release.

It's not like they have nothing to release in the meantime. As I mentioned, they are releasing 6 games in 12 months. And I did not even count Gran Turismo 7 PS VR 2 or Horizon Burning Shores. 8 big releases in 12 months is plenty of stuff.

Usually his announcements come approx 24hrs in advance, so there’s a good chance of it being announced in the next 12 hours or so.

Third party? What for? I could understand if it was on second party games, but a state of play dedicated to third party is useless.

Sony doesn’t use the term “second party”. Hermen Hulst and Shuhei Yoshida have both talked about this in the past.

So, for example, a game like Returnal which was published by PlayStation and developed by Housemarque when they were still independent was regarded by Sony as a first party game.

To quote Hermen:

You could, I guess, make a distinction between development teams who are part of Sony – like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, and so on – and then development teams who are working with us like partners […] Haven, Firewalk, but also teams we’ve worked with over years, like Kojima Productions, FromSoftware,” he started.

“To me, in many ways, there really is no difference. They’re all PlayStation Studios. We are, at the end of the day, a creator-led organisation. Which to me means that we want to find the best possible development studios in the world and help them passionately pursue their ideas. To me, it’s important that PlayStation Studios is a place that allows creators to join us and do the best work of their career.

If they’re doing a “third party SoP then that won't include these games but would obviously still cover plenty games that published by third party publishers that have an element of PlayStation exclusivity.

Would be great to see what Sony has for the first half and year tbh outside of PS VR. Surely, they dont class PS VR games as their first party line up for the first half. You cant just expect your userbase to shell out another 500 quid to play your games. No way they would think like that.

Yeaaaah right. This is Street Fighter V. Of course it would have existed, let's get real for a sec.

People forget how much Capcom was hurting during the latter years of teh ps3 generation. Capcom was spiraling the same way ubi is now, if sony didn’t heavily invest in SF5 who knows when it would have actually been released and with what.

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Very happy with third party games on PlayStation since the PS4, ps3 games were decent but there was a reason why people bought third party games on 360.

As long as they announce some games that are never, ever, ever coming to the personal computer, I will be a very happy man.

What if bluepoint is doing remakes of classic playstation games with super graphics? Starting with Metal Gear Solid. It would make sense because of that tweet a while back.

They released a bunch of them recently, and I assume the next month/month and a half their main focus should be dedicated to PSVR2 and other than that it makes more sense a 3d party or indies State of Play with no big announcements.

I assume that if they also manage to manufacture way more consoles than before they'll allow them to be sold with the inertia of previous stuff. Once that and the PSVR2 launch stuff is over, I assume the right time for big announcements, specially from 1st party, will be the E3.

They said they aren't working on remakes right now, and before that they specifically debunked to be working in MGS. Maybe the reference was because they had worked with MGS before, or simply a tweet wanting to create random buzz and speculations.

And well, Sony bought them so they will work on Sony games, not in Konami games. Konami owns and publishes MGS, not Sony.

It's like asking a Nintendo or MS team to remake or make a new FIFA or CoD. Won't happen.

You do know the state of of Capcom circa 2012-2014, right? SF6 is in an era where they're doing better than ever whereas back then things were looking grim.

I mean Monster Hunter on Nintendo systems and a resurgence of resident evil on Ps4 gen also heavilly helped obviously.

Count me in the first party thirst crowd. Most third party games are automatic duds these days, and anything that is interesting is far enough away that seeing anything from them in February of this year is highly doubtful.

30 minute show.

10 minutes talking about how they denounce Rowling and support marginalized groups.

10 minutes of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay. Followed by a 3 minute excerpt of the developers talking about how they amped up the inclusivity in the game.

*cue cut to PlayStation logo / waiting screen*

Jim walks in frame, and pulls a Tretton/ House ala Killzone 2 @ e3. “Thank you for joining us tonight to see how we combat modern issues and check out a small excerpt of an upcoming game we are happy about AND unhappy about. We hope you have a great night!

Oh yeah, one more thing”.

Screen goes black… epic music begins playing….

Suddenly a humanoid pterodactyl comes into focus around a campfire, talking to a humanoid horse / pony.

*gnarly movie trailer horn sound plays*

Pterodactyl says “I’m sure going to miss this” as other humanoid - animal creatures fill the shadows about. The horse one says, “me too, Edwin”.

A dramatic pause occurs, with Ray tracing.

Edwin the pterodactyl says “Goodbye, Volcano High”. With a release date fading onto the screen with the next days date.

—————

That’s my best guess.

Jeez, how many years has it been in development then? Like 7 to 8 years?
No. It's been 2-2.5 years of full production so far.

When they scoped and started working on in b/w 2016-2020, the scope became too big and they stopped working on it (made it a separate project).

The studio started (~2016-2017) working on TLOU 2 and released it in 2020. They started working on the TLOU 2 Online in earnest after that.

I thought there was leaked footage from around the launch of last of us 2 as they were planning to launch it with lou2 to begin with.

I've deffo seen footage from what felt like a year or two ago and it looked damn far in development.

I guess your saying it was fully rebooted (using all the assets theyve made) to make it into a much bigger project. I like that. I have really high hopes for it, just hope it's free to play and on PC day one.

Yeah, that was footage the Factions mode, IIRC. Now the scope is much bigger though: it has an evolving world with evolving stories and new characters. Factions was just (relatively) simple PvP and had none of those elements.

I wouldn't say "fully rebooted" but more like significantly expanded, and we don't know about the assets yet as we haven't seen the latest version of the game (but I think they'll still mostly be the same, coz it just makes sense to use TLOU 2 assets).

Naughty Dog is calling this their biggest game ever (even bigger than TLOU 2), which is exciting.
