An extended version of DEATH STRANDING (w/ new story content) is in the works for PS4 and PS5

Navtra leaked several game announcements from both PlayStation 5 events from last year and also tons of Square Enix stuff (Marvel's Avengers Spider-Man DLC, Final Fantasy XVI). I'd say he (or she) is pretty reliable.

I think that this is a really nice move by Sony, to allow Kojima to fully realize his vision I mean, because PlayStation management interfered with the game's development back in 2018 by dramatically cutting the budget (in comparison to the numbers Kojima and Andrew House agreed on back in 2015/16) and bringing the release date forward by a full year, among other things.

This also makes me feel confident about KojiPro's next game being Sony-funded as well!

I wonder what they could possibly add to the story that wasn’t already covered. I have to wonder if it’s true then if it’s after end game or before.

I wonder what they would add. I'm about halfway done with the story (chapter wise) and I feel like the game could use more maps and more tools. Hopefully it'll be added in a way that can be played by an ongoing save. I sunk a lot of casual time into delivering goods to build roads and ziplines.

it's a fun game, for what it's worth. I think Kojima nailed the simulation aspects. The story is the weakest part imo but maybe there's some upcoming secret or revelation that explains how "off" everything is.

I got this game on Pro but never fully understood the mechanics. Yeah you have to traverse different terrain but fuck me the game is confusing with that mechanics and the HUD as well.

I find some games confuse the shit out of me with overly complicated mechanics and in this case I had to youtube some stuff and I still had trouble following along.

Played past the first few missions and just stopped. Now the game is gathering digital dust.

Loved Death Stranding, but I really hope I can upgrade my existing version and access the new content without a new playthrough. It's a phenomenal game, but I don't know if I have it in me to do 70+ more hours unless it were a full blown sequel

The story doesn't start to hit hard until the last five hours, so it's normal that you feel that way midway through the game.

• 4K /60fps performance mode

• New content

• And possibly DualSense haptic feedback support...whew.

I hope KojiPro really go the extra mile to implement haptic feedback support as detailed as in the Astro's Playroom.
A game about traversing across various forms of terrain would be the perfect for it.

Same. Played through the game on PS4 and am currently about 50 hours in on the PC. I don't know if I'm ready for another full playthrough.

Definitely curious as to what this special edition could possibly entail.

Damn, I hadn't heard about this. Do you have a link handy?

Jesus.

Do you upload your saves to the cloud?

I assumed it was auto uploading like every other game. Didn’t even bother to check before wiping and selling my Pro.

When I went to download the saves on the PS5 they were never there, not even a single save file.

Will they also be adding an enjoyable game to it as well, or just more story?

Because yay who doesn't love walking from one spot to another while trying not fall over all the time... thrilling...
Rather reductionist, but I understand why some people don't like the game. It's pretty polarizing.

I really love the fact that Kojima and Sony went in on something that is so damn weird and doesn't rely on the typical mechanics that are seen in most modern "AAA" games

Big brain on you huh?

The game was prophetic!!!

A game where a cataclysm keeps everyone locked down in their domiciles while couriers ship packages between settlements... we're practically living this now during COVID lockdown.

Not only is Kojima a genius he's also a prophet.
I replayed MGS2 about 3-4 years ago and was just shaking my head at all the things that came to from that game. Kojima is a weirdo, but he's a fuckin smart weirdo.

This video is a bit long but worth a watch

The game is already damn long for what it offers in terms of mechanics, it took me 200+ hours to platinum. Why would you want an "extended" version of that? A quality stand-alone DLC would make more sense.

People do not really take their time to truly contemplate and appreciate all the content most games (whether short or long) have to offer. They just breeze through the story mode, arenas, missions, etc., and call it a day.

It all comes from several posts made nearly a year ago on the ResetEra forums by user KatharsisT, who has been vetted in regards to her information on Kojima Productions:
Katharsis: "Death Stranding was made by Kojima Productions. Insomniac, Bend and Guerrilla helped a lot tho, and Visual Arts from SIE did all the motion capture. All PlayStation WWS are collaborating together to have the best result possible."
User: "Only Kojima gets that royal treatment."
Katharsis: "Not only Kojima and Death Stranding dev wasn't a paradise. They had to help him because they forced him to finish the game early, soft-rebooted it and cut the budget. Kojima wanted DS to be a PS5 game and like you can see in the artbook, it should have been way more ambitious. I still loved the game but that's a shame. Kojima isn't always easy to handle but he clearly isn't the only one to blame in this case."
User: "How big was Death Stranding's budget compared to other Sony projects this gen?"
Katharsis: "It was very VERY big in the beginning, until it was cut aaaaand everything went down."
User: "Do you know why it was cut?"
Katharsis: "Yes. WWS were not happy with the budget Kojima had. Internal reorganization didn't help [all of this was happening around the time when John Kodera was put in charge of SIE after Andrew House's departure]. A lot of things changed internally at PlayStation the past years. Death Stranding and Kojima paid the bill of all these problems, unfortunately."
User: "How could he have wanted DS as a PS5 game when he announced it as a PS4 game in 2016 and he clearly stated that the game would be out before 2020 in 2016?"
KatharsisT: "Initially the budget was set for a PS4 game. After a little while, Kojima had way more ambitions and wanted it to become a PS5 game with a bigger scale. Sony didn't agree. Kojima wanted the game to be out before the Tokyo Olympic Games, initially, so the first release date was around March 2020. The problem is that Last of Us 2 was supposed to come out way before, in the end of 2018. [TLOU2] was pushed back so many times it changed the schedule. Death Stranding release date was brought before, initially in March 2019, then pushed back internally again because the game couldn't be ready to November 2019. Last of Us 2 took the place of Death Stranding in March 2020 (end of February actually) before being pushed back again and again."

What is so appealing about Death Stranding?
Great animation, cool sci-fi world, great music, pretty graphics and sound, decent combat and fun travel. Its about exploring and hiking, such unique gameplay thats entirely gear based. Its a new type of challenge in gaming.

Its ton of fun to plan out going from one spot to another (or several) and decide what equipment is the best to use, how to carry and balance it all, what issues could arise, the risks, rewards, time, etc.

Its one of the only open world games that actually needed to be for the gameplay loop to work. Lots of fun stuff to build out and see along the way. Its an emotional and cool journey. Story was classic Kojima, good and bad.
