People with fringe opinions can't understand why a lot of people like something they hate. Go figure. Seems like a worthy winner, given how the events of the game rustled jimmies so hard. I still think AC deserved the win for its impact on socio-political events during the pandemic, but TLOU2 definitely made people feel some kind of way about its story. A good story isn't just one that goes the way you want it to. I didn't play the game, but wasn't under the impression that the story was bad. Just that it took an unexpected turn, and forced gamers to come to terms with a moral conundrum.
The Rise of Skywalker had all the feel good fanservice that delivered desired outcomes, but it wasn't a good story by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes, diverting expectations can be a good thing, even if it thrusts you into the position of following the story arc of someone you now despise, in order to fully appreciate some of the decisions said character had to make earlier on. This is one of the few PS4 games I would consider playing when I get a PS5, as I never got a chance to finish the first game, so never developed the same close attachment some gamers had developed.
