This is the most poor and barebones start of a new-generation

I've been asking this same questions to Sony fanboys and the question needs to be asked again after DA was moved to Feb today.

Why are they claiming this is the best launch in history? Demons Souls is the ONLYYYYYYY exclusive? What Microsoft has done is terrible for launch as well, but wtf is with the disparity in hate? They both have terrible launch lineups.

Maybe it's not those you're asking the questions to that have a problem. Maybe it's you not liking the answer.

If you're solely buying an Xbox Series console it could be poor yes.

But if you're getting a PS5 solely/alongside it it's not a bad launch year.

It's not the best first year but it's a very good one.

  • Demon Souls Remake
  • Spider-man Miles Morales
  • Destruction All Stars
  • Sackboy's Big Adventure
  • Returnal
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
  • Kena Bridge of Spirits
  • Godfall
  • God of War: Ragnarok
  • Stray
  • Little Devil Inside
  • Deathloop
  • Ghostwire Tokyo
  • Final Fantasy XVI

Add solid third party titles launching throughout year one like Cyberpunk, Far Cry 6, Hogwarts Legacy, Resident Evil Village and Gotham Knights and you've got a pretty decent first year on next gen consoles.

It may not be the best first year or the biggest generational leap at first, but it certainly isn't the worst imo.

PS4 and XB1 had a pretty shitty year one imo compared to this.

Easily worst launch/holiday launch line up in recent memory. The switch had BOTW which is one of the best games ever. Ps4 had killzone, knack (which wasn’t that bad). I think the ps3’s launch sucked, I can’t even remember it. So I agree with OP. If it wasn’t for demon souls the ps5/series X would be about even in terms of launch.

The PS4/Xone launch was worse and you couldn't even play your older games. The ps3 launch was nothing to write home about either. This is actually one of the best I can recall.

I really enjoyed both of these generation launches.

Xone had Killer Instinct and Forza which I enjoyed a lot. Ryse was really pretty too.

PS3 had Motorstorm and Resistance Fall of Man which were both really awesome as well.

I'd agree that PS5 would be way better than both if Miles Morales and Sackboy weren't cross gen and also available on PS4 same day.

You are not a Souls fan.

Most Playstation fans are.

Also, Spiderman MM and replaying games like TLU2 and Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 will be glorious. So most PS fans are fine with it.

if that makes fanboys sleep at night sure
I actually enjoy playing video games because I have games to play
Some people spend more time engaging in fanboy wars than actually playing video games
You say as you stroll in and start fanboy warring because someone criticized a video game and you want them to stop. Miles Morales isn't an all new AAA effort. It's a new story on the same map as the old story. Which is fine if that's what you're looking for and I sincerely hope you enjoy it. But the comparisons to DLC and criticism of the $70 price tag for it are fair. Having paid full price for Spider Man when it released I'll personally be waiting until MM drops in price to buy it.

2013 was much worse. Stop this nonsense
Nope, both PS4 and Xbox One had a really good launch lineup.

PS4 had:
*Killzone (the fps that proved a generational leap).
* Knack (the platformer that showcased how far physical interaction can be pushed on the console).

Xbox had:
* Ryse (the hack'n'slash that proved a generation leap).
* Dead Rising 3 (the open-world that showcased how many objects can be put on screen at once).
* Killer Instinct (the fighting game with double the performance of any fighting game on 360).
* Forza 5 (visuals and performance like nothing before).

From what we know of PS5's first year... FF16, Horizon 2, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Sackboy, Astro's Playroom, Ratchet and Clank, Returnal, Demons Souls, God of War Ragnarok.

Anyways the OP is correct for Xbox but PS5 has some big launch titles with a loaded launch year. Some may not make it but it blows away any PS console launch so far and the launch year rivals all but PS2.

I agree that there isn't much of interest at launch but hopefully GT7 will be here soon, and in the meanwhile there's backwards compatibility to catch up on what I missed last gen.

Launch lineups rarely intrigue but I'm not a fan of lumping Sony in with ms on this because they have totally different launch lineups while people keep calling Spidey mm "dlc" it's still a new game taking advantage of ps5 hardware from the get go and with demon souls that game has been asked for many times to be remade by fans and no doubt people will be happy with it the first year looks very decent for Sony .

Ms are far behind Sony at launch they don't have anything at all how can you say both are the same ? .

bleh it's fine, I'm more exited about Demons souls remake than any game the past 3 years and I'll get 100+ hours out of it. And I'm excited about trying some new games on xbox.

People, if you are a xbox person just go buy a ps5 for shits and giggles and play games you didnt have access to before. If you are a ps person go buy a xbox series x and play games you didnt have access to before.

If you are lucky enough to afford it get both and just play whatever you want.

They both are not good. But usually 3rd Parties don't make Next Gen exclusives at launch because the user base on PS4/Xbox One are massive and that is way too much potential money to ignore. For me personally, I have a lot more games I plan to play on Day 1/2 on my Series X than I do on my PS5. I am actually still not sure what 2 games to get on the PS5. I don't really care for Spiderman nor am I a Souls fan. With the said, Demon's Souls looks incredible. Right now perhaps Sackboy may be my only game i have on the PS5.

Funny enough my most anticipated game is Planet Coaster Console Edition.

The only people I see consistently complain about the upcoming launch is primarily Xbox fans. Somehow, their disappointment is how everyone else should feel. Most Playstation fans are very much looking forward to the incoming releases.

Before Halo got delayed, most of the fanbase were beating their chest about how nothing could compete with it at Series X launch. Now everything sucks because they can't troll with Infinite now.

No.
It has way better games annoucned than last/current gen started off with. Well Playstation Exclusives Im good with.
Demon Souls. Elden Ring next year, Final Fantasy 16. God of War. Gran Turismo 7. Ratchet and Clank. Im pretty happy

And you mention some of the worst companies, EA, Ubisoft and Activision lmao. Who cares about them.... especially EA

Really looking forward to the PS5 launch.

Demon Souls, Valhalla and the upgraded Fifa will keep me busy until near enough next Summer I reckon and I might pick up Ghosts of Sushima if it gets a next gen boost.

Actually thinking back - has any console since the SNES had a great launch?

PS1 took a while to get going, xbox was Halo and NHL, xbox 360 was that dreadful King Kong game and I think another NHL game with Madeen, PS4 was Killzone, Need for Speed cops and robbers and that shitty platformer. Black Flag was the best PS4 game in the first year.

literally nobody gives a fuck about any of those games. miles morales and demon's souls will prove worthy long-term for the brand.

Without being a blind fan of either company, you can tell this is the less exciting new-generation in like.... a very long while?

Yeah, Xbox fans will tell you they've got the most powerful console with GamePass with 200 games and backward compatibility through 3 generations making the console launch with thousand of enhanced games day 1. While PlayStation fans will tell you they've got a remake and an expansion pack.

So, this is the start of next-gen? A remake/remaster of a 2 gen old game, an expansion (also available in PS4), and a bunch of backward compatible games? That's it?

No big new IP AAA from any of the two companies? Heck, not even a AAA new entry on existing franchises either with Halo Infinite delay.

Also, all this talking about the big jump in power and none made a proper game at least to showcase the graphical leap?

AND, NOT ONLY THAT, but also, not a single big multi game from the big gaming companies either.

No new next-gen only EA games.

No new next-gen only Activision games.

No new next-gen only Ubisoft games.

And the list goes on and on.

Be it because COVID. Because companies are afraid to leave last gen playerbase numbers. Because there's almost zero innovation. Because.... etc. Whatever the reason, this is the most poor and barebones new-gen.

Spider-Man Miles Morales, Sackboy, Demon's Souls? God Fall? This is the best launch of any console generation.

Maybe this applies to XSX as it's by far the WORST launch of any console generation. Legit no games.

I think this will be the norm. Games just cost too much to develop and market just to reserve for next-gen consoles only, especially when you're not sure on the reception of the console years ahead of release. And those that do buy the console at a later date may not buy the game at full price anyway and will wait for it to go down in price considering it's been out for a while.

I'm quite happy with the (close to) launch lineup:
- Spiderman, original was great.
- Demon Souls, never played original so I'm hyped.
- AC Valhalla, though I might buy this on PC.
- Black Ops CW, first time 120hz CID on console!
- Cyberpunk, will probably get this on PC too
- Godfall, looks like a fun coop slasher.
- Sackboy, perfect time to play a silly platformer.

I skipped Xbox One and PS4 and Wii U (last generation) so I’m basically in gaming heaven right now with all the games I missed right now. Add to that the new consoles coming out and the games that will be out by the time I decide to invest in either an XSX or PS5, I’m pretty excited for the next generation

We need new Glory days. It's crazy that even back then most the next gen titles were sequels. It was cool back then. 2nd and 3rd iterations is fine, and Final Fantasy is an exception because every one is fairly different than the last. I've always considered next gen to be cancelled til 2021.

But on the bright side, Cyberpunk drops a week later.

We really need every person to have their own hot take thread on subjects like this? Guess who cares if you aren't amped for next-gen? NO ONE, you know why? Because it SOLD OUT ANYWAYS, what the fuck does either company care if you think the line-up is weak? What does that mean you'll wait for more games? You probably won't be able to find a console until then anyways, so who the fuck even cares. My God do people on this forum have insane narcissism thinking their viewpoints matter so much more than they do, no one cares, you change nothing.

For some gamers in some platforms maybe. We all know the overwhelming majority of gamers play on a single platform, or preferred platform - which is why this sentiment is common place for some. We should be quite honest about that instead of spreading the pessimism around.

Definitely not for future PS5 owners.

Demon Souls Remake
Spider-man Miles Morales
Destruction All Stars

Sackboy's Big Adventure
Returnal
Horizon Forbidden West
Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart
Kena Bridge of Spirits
Godfall
God of War: Ragnarok
Stray
Little Devil Inside
Deathloop
Ghostwire Tokyo
Final Fantasy XVI

All of that in some fashion exclusive to the PS5 platform for Year 1. That's a monster 12 months + change. Like I always say.... if your preferred platform ain't delivering.... you have the choice to switch. Eat it, man up, and simply do it.
Spiderman MM is a PS4 game, as well as Sackboy. All the rest in bold letters are NOT "launch" titles, as those are not available when the new console releases. They will come, sure, but not "at launch".

Are those games enticing? absolutely, but you'll have to wait several months to get them.

So... "console exclusive launch titles" on the PS5 side is Demon's Soul Remake, while on the XSX side is "The Medium" (iirc).

There: two "console exclusive launch titles" and 3rd parties galore.

Not that I'm complaining, but OP has a point: it's a very weak console launch from the software side. It'll take at least half 2021 for PS5/XSX to start getting interesting.
