Constantin Film has set in motion a new adaptation to add to the ever-expanding Resident Evil movie franchise. Constantin and writer-director Johannes Roberts said Tuesday that have conceived an official origin story adaptation with faithful ties to Capcom’s classic survival horror games. This story is set in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City.

Starring in the roles of the iconic game characters will be Maze Runner‘s Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield alongside Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough (Yellowstone) as William Birkin.

“With this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences, said Roberts, the filmmaker behind shark thriller 47 Meters Down and its sequel.

Franchise producer Robert Kulzer will produce again on behalf of Constantin with James Harris from Tea Shop Productions and Hartley Gorenstein.

Said Kulzer, “After a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spenser Mansion and Raccoon City.

Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems will once distribute the film domestically, with Constantin handling German-speaking territories, Elevation distributing in Canada, Metropolitan in France, and Sony Pictures Releasing International handling much of the remaining territories.

Constantin Film’s CEO Martin Moszkowicz and Victor Hadida of Davis Film will serve as executive producers. Alex Westmore and Colin Scully of Constantin Film are overseeing the project.

I was worried at first about them leaving the mansion out but it seems like it will appear after all 😁

The changes to characters i don't give a shit about, Capcom themselves change them all the time and its a solid cast 👍

I think it will be of a higher quality than the upcoming NETFLIX tv series at least, and its time for a proper reboot in the movie universe

what is up with these assholes always casting a popular established character as another race? What is the point? I'm Filipino and don't want Leon to be Southeast Asian. Funny that you never see any Asian people get cast in roles no one ever complains. wankers.

Another race? There are only 3 races. Indians are caucasians pal. Casting a filipino for example, would be as out of place as casting a black guy to play Leon. Indians have caucasian features.

I think it's a great cast.

Yeah.

Hannah John-Kamen is very pretty and I liked her in Ant-man, but damn, she's Norvegian-Nigerian. When Jake Gyllenhaal played Prince of fucking Persia, it was rightfully slammed for whitewashing, but, wait, other way around i A OK?

that is not my point. just don't change how the original character looks. It is not rocket science okay, no one had a problem with Leon looking like a 90s boy band member.

Bleh. Jamming RE1 and RE2 into a single narrative reeks of trying to "embiggen" the story when all its likely to do is add redundancy. The difference between the two stories was largely a matter of location and trying to support 4 protagonists (all of whom canonically need to survive) is just going to result in a mess.

The original movies are the biggest pieces of shit I've ever watched. Please keep to the games story FFS.

Isn't Jake Jewish? Sure he ain't Persian but I'm sure people seem to forget where Jews come from and it's not too shocking or unbelievable to a Middle Eastern white person
I remember not long ago people was criticizing the Stargate movie form 1994 for whitewashing
Ironically the character they bitched about Mili Avital who played Sha're was actually the only actor that spoke Arabic as her native tongue because she was Arabic

Her father in the film Erick Avari/Kasuf is Indian and her brother Alexis Cruz
/Skaara is Puerto Rican

Go figure

He's from noble Swedish family. He was as fit to play a Persian as me playing Chinese warlord. Besides he slammed it himself, albeit after the fact.

is it because it's a franchise about zombies and monster? it just won't stay dead huh? the casting looks fine to me, let's see how cheesy they're gonna make it.

Weren't people also complaining about Rami Malek for playing an Egyptian in Gods of Egypt with claims of whitewashing? And the dude is Egyptian.

Ah here we go with hollywood changing established characters again to fulfill a narrative. What absolutely dogshit casting choices they made for Jill and Leon. The rest are fine to me.

Leon is my wifes favorite RE character, this casting may make her cry. You wanna force some diversity whatever, but recasting Leon? That's a bit much.

Man another reboot?

After Star Wars now RE?

So sick and tired of reboot

Holywood ran out of ideas so they have recycles old material

What’s the problem here?
Millennials will most likely not watch the old good movies so why not let them watch the story with what they like? (New actors, visuals etc)

It’s not like Hollywood is removing the old ones, you can always see them. You just have more choice now. So it’s win-win.

The Jill actress is black.

She isnt Black or White technically, right? She have whiter skin than that another woman

Why is it that if someone have 10% black in them, and 90% white they are still "black"?

Something between of being purely one ot the another race= afro-caucasian

Just think about it, how about 90% black, 10% white would call themselves white, doesnt make any sense, right?

Maybe it is because I live in 95% white country(and people are mostly 100% white or 100% something else) and have talked once or twice with black person in my life(because I dont know any and they like to keep by themselves), so I just dont get the logic, maybe it isnt logical at all.

(And I'm not saying there is anything bad to be mixed race, she is beautiful, but I would never think she is black if I would see her on street)

But anyway, Leon actor looks More like Italian gigolo than zombie killer. And rest arent much better. Old movies had nice casting

Wait, Jake Gyllenhaal is from a Swedish family? I've never heard of that, and I'm Swedish.
His father is Swedish and his mother is Jewish
Why is it that if someone have 10% black in them, and 90% white they are still "black"?
Ask Mariah Carey, she insists on it
Even though she is actually very pale skinned

I enjoyed the first film for what it was, but I haven't watched it as an adult. At the time I thought it was enjoyable, even one of the better video game films until Silent Hill came out. The other movies? Hot garbage. It would be really cool to see the mansion and everything that happened there in a film, but, yeah. I dunno. It's hard to get really excited about video game movies because they're generally just awful ass. I know they claim to be working close with Capcom but eh.

In regards to the cast, you won't see me flip out about it, I think that's silly. I'd rather just wait and see how they look in the film.
