Demon Souls Digital Deluxe Edition

What is the difference? It looks like a much better looking version of the PS3 game? Is it all new?
The difference is a remaster is when you take existing assets, basically upscale the game graphically, and release 100% the same game using its original assets. You generally also do this to the soundtrack.

A remake like this is being made 100% from ground up, new engine, new assets, refined gameplay(albeit similar to darksouls-like games, which there are a ton of nowadays), new soundtrack, etc. etc.

For example look at FFX remaster and compare it to RE2 remake in terms of how the 2 games were made.

Remaster
old game running 1:1 on newer hardware, upscaled to max. and added effects or better AA (if at all)

Remake
old game completely redone from scratch, stays true to the OG, level by level, items but done with contemporary assets and in case of Bluepoint a change of look&feel

edit: too slow, i was

These prices and the rewards are disturbing to me honestly.
Hopefully there's no MTX in game where you can buy souls if you want to.

Seems like this game has been greatly altered. To early to say whether this will be good or bad for the game. I am more of a pessimist though so I am not thrilled. The grains they mention gives me the greatest pause as they are not in the original game.

we still don't know how matchmaking is going to work.

My guess is that it will work similar to Dark Souls 3. It's already confirmed that there will be 1-6 summons, so I expect Bluepoint to also have designed fully dedicated pvp-areas or arenas, to match later installments of the series. It might feel archaic if it's not up to snuff regarding the online elements and all the improvements that's been done during the years.

Yeah I was wondering about those "Grains" didn't remember them being in the original at all. Sounds like they messed way too fucking much with this game, it's already borderline blasphemous and we haven't even see the full thing yet.

Definitely red flags all over this I'll say that much.

This is how you make a 70 USD purchase feel like you invested into something incomplete.

It doesn't make me feel that way at all. I'm assuming you can get this stuff by just playing the game, so I feel more like the regular edition is the real version of the game while this just makes the game easier from the start. Which is not something I'd ever want to do with a Souls game. I never pick the useful starting gifts for the same reason.

There was no Red Eyed Knight Armor or Ring of Longevity either. It just makes me wonder what else was changed or added? I mean fix things like item drop rates sure but adding new items to the game make me worried they changed some other things that are less new player friendly.

Problem with this is the more people buy it, the more normalized it becomes. Its ridiculous enough games got bumped up in price already. Yet we're still going to get the same business practices in them like microtransactions.

Becomes? It already is a normal thing with such editions. This isn't brand new in the slightest.

Its been mostly an ubi and ea thing with Gold and deluxe editions. Not many other publishers do this as much, at least off the top that i can think of right now.

Thing is the whole forum can completely ignore this but its not even a fraction of all the gamers out there.

To each his own. Me, I'm really looking for forward to this REMASTER!

I do not like hack n slash without it having huge rpg elements.
Hack n slashes were the first games which captivated my attention before i got into gaming. They do look phenomenal but only enjoy them watching others play it. Any particular demography, to which it appeals to ?

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
If they really are locking baby mode behind a paywall, that's hilarious.

I doubt it appeals to one demographic over the other. I do like when they add lots of rpg elements too. Not sure what this has for rpg elements. I'm just excited because it looks really good IMO, has a great pedigree, and will be (as long as I find a console I can buy) one of my first next gen experiences.

Are you calling Souls a hack-and-slash series? Good grief.

This entire thread makes it seems like no one NeoGAF actually plays video games.

Also let's be truthful, Souls games are as easy or hard as you want to make it. You can overlevel if you want and roll over every boss in sight but it's still a skill based game so even for the new players who want to use all of this extra gear early on, they will be still be skill checked. This won't carry them all the way through.
That and summons can make boss fights an absolute joke.

I guess there goes the argument that higher standard prices will reduce other forms of monetization.

It's great isn't it? They argue that prices should go up due to inflation and higher budgets, whilst also doing away with physical manuals, transitioning to digital distribution and raking in billions of dollars by turning almost all of their products into glorified slot machines with pre-order DLC, microtransactions, loot boxes, season passes and time gating mechanics.

And still people will defend the price increase for some reason.

Overreaction the thread.

Gold/Deluxe/Day one/Etc edition has been an industry standard since 2014, no one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

Drama queens.

It's actually thanks to people speaking out against bad business practices that some things have changes for the better, such as always online on Xbox One, Online Passes for 360/PS3, lootboxes in games like Battlefront 2. Maybe you should stop underreacting.

I really don't understand the appeal with "digital deluxe" editions. Physical special editions have some actual stuff, at least. But these pay to win kind of things?

But then again, there's lots of stuff people pay for that I will never understand, so..

🤷‍♂️

Oh please anger profiteers like Jim Sterling and his ilk has been bitching about these edition since at least 2012 and it changed nothing! You know why? Because it works! There's always some idiot whose going to buy these editions no matter what.

This fourm members take "Pride" in their "enthusiast" mind set of owning every console plus a powerful PC and buying Special editions and collector's editions, yet here they are bitching about something as insignificant as an edition with extra Souls (something you can get by playing normaly), some weapon and ring, and some cosmetic shit.

Excuse me for not flipping my shit over this, at least you can wait a couple of months and you'll find the game used for less than 40$.

My favorite part of the series is Fashion Souls

SOTC remake came out 2 years ago for $40. All content was included on disc and if you wanted some additional physical goodies there was a $50 special edition.

This is $90 for some items that should be unlocks.

As a Demons Souls player since it's release in 2008, and still owning the game on PS3, and owner of the Deluxe Edition of Demons Souls.....this "Digital Deluxe edition" is insulting.
Not going to pay for Easy Mode, that is not Demon's.
Iv'e not waited for years only to pay to make my journey more easy.

I'm not defending this shit i'm simply stating it's nothing new except like with this gen's Deluxe editions it was always 20$ more than the regular edition, so in their minds new price is 70$ so deluxe must be 20$ so 90$.

Give it 3 months at the most and they'll be selling the deluxe edition "edition" for 5-10$ separately just like FF7R Deluxe stuff.

90$ For a PS3 game with new graphics and some in game items to make it easier. Nice.
Im sorry you played the remake? you can confirm no new content or twists? also you do realize you can buy the standard edition right? noone is forcing anyone to buy a deluxe version but for the og soundtrack along its tempting.

90$ is the standard edition for the UK and Europe.

Reminds me of Ubisofts "Time Savers" crap in recent Assassin's Creed games.

I don't get the concept of designing and building a game and then saying to people "well if you pay an extra 10 to 20 bucks then you'll be able to get the game over with more quickly".

It kind of feels like it's not even in the spirit of a "game" but more like an "experience".
Like how you can get an "Express Pass" at a theme park.

I think that's like 15,0000 souls they are selling so it's got to be worth a good few levels.

Actually? Maybe it's not that much?
Either way it feels kind of weird to outright buy exp in a game.

I wonder if RPGs are just becoming a bit outdated and unfashionable?
There's something of a negative attitude towards grinding and leveling.
I always felt in the past that if the game was fun then leveling is OK.
Maybe it's mindless fun though?

I kind of can't believe that we're at the stage where developers are still trying to make an RPG but also are admitting "listen we know you customers don't have time for this anymore".

I guess the solution is to have people pay extra to complete the game a bit more quickly.

Even the Ghost of Tsushima deluxe edition offered a skill point from the start. Which just seems a bit daft.

Good luck to anyone who wants to pay the extra I guess.

20 bucks is like 28% of the cost of the standard game?
You'd think a deluxe edition that takes the price up to 90 bucks would be offering stuff like extra optional bosses or areas or something substantial.

I'd love to know what percentage of players go in for these deluxe editions and if they feel like it's good value for money.

I don't mind these Gold/Deluxe/Day one/Etc Editions.
If people want to buy them then that's fine.

I do question why though.
Why it's 20 bucks for some pretty poor digital items.

I'd be all in for a special edition that includes an artbook or some "making of" content.
A nice steelbook maybe. Soundtrack on vinyl or CD with a cool cover and booklet etc.
Not a huge fan of statues and figurines but even those are at least something.

The thought process behind it is kind of interesting too.

I'm just not getting why anyone would want to bring out an RPG where leveling up and equipping gear etc is a thing and then say "if you pay extra we cna make things go more quickly for you". Again using Ubisoft's "time savers" as an example but also it seems the same to ask players to pay for souls.

If the game gives you like 15k souls then it's for sure going to save the player some time.
Why not just design a game that "fits" with the hectic schedule of 2020s modern gamers who don't have time for these kinds of games?

I guess I'm seeing it as like they are asking you to spend money to take something away from the game itself?
So why play an hour or two leveling up? Give us 20 bucks and we can get that done quickly and you can go do something else for a few hours.
Read a book. Go outside.

Makes gaming seem like a chore.
Kind of makes it look like a lot in the industry agree.

Maybe they will someday market games like that.
For just 40 bucks extra you can cut the gameplay time in half.
Giving you time to work on your backlog.
