she actually was writing an encyclopedia, but then focused on pottermore? so not sure if she'll ever release that

I mean, Pottermore is a nice site but an actual, physical book with all that information would be a whole lot nicer. I hope she is still working on it even if it takes a while to be released.

I wonder if the Japanese school does that too.

Still hoping for magic guns in the American school.

It says wands are a European invention so Japan probably uses hand seals as well.

Basically what I'm saying is there's nothing that prevents Naruto from existing in Potterverse.

I am 100% certain the American wizards will use wands. It makes sense considering we won't see Native American wizards who might have used something else, and then European Wizards came so they brought their invention with them.

But that is only until the tech companies all join forces and make better wizard gadgets.

Plot Twist: Jesus was the primordial wizard.

I think Moses was. Magic "came from Africa", and it's reasonable to assume the Egyptians had some idea of Magic. Along came Moses who transmuted water into blood, summons a rain of frog, death of first born, etc etc, then left. A lot of it was passed down by the muggles who were there at the time because there was no Statute of Secrecy back then.

Where are all the magic archaeologists in Potterverse??

Why is the Brazilian name for an ancient Wizarding school Portuguese when it's a relatively new language to the south American continent? You'd think she'd recognize that the indigenous people had a long history there before Spanish and Portuguese explorers arrived.

You forgot to mention that Moses used his staff like a magic wand :O

Yeah I was thinking of that too. The staff probably just happened to be of the right wood and maybe a Phoenix nested in it or something and boom, wand.

They were wiped out by the European wizards with their fancy guns wands. Castelobruxo was founded later.

WHAT?! No Canada?

Joking aside, it's always neat to hear about some of the other wizarding schools in the Harry Potter world.

yall complaining that the japanese name is so basic, but according to the Japan based around anime, it's only ONE out of many school for special children with superpowers. Those are there by the dozen, so no worries you have options

Keep in mind the name of the English school is "pigblisters school of girl magic and boy magic".

I'm not a huge Harry Potter fan but I'm having way too much fun with some of the responses here.

So where do South American witches and wizards go? Or do we have to learn English or Portuguese to go to the elite American schools?

There's likely a Spanish school she just didn't consider announcing one.

I mean if we think about it its not like the schools need to be approved. Just get a group of wizards in a country, enough funding, and open schools

Bahaha the Japan one is literally 'Magic Place'

Not even really.
Because of the rendaku phenomenon, it should be Mahodokoro.

Also, that "u" shouldn't be there.
While there are no rules set in stone for the transcription of Japanese long vowels, the official recommendation (e.g, for places on maps or names in passports) is to drop the "u".

what are the houses in the american school?

The Elephant
The Donkey
The Eagle
The Gun

I don't get this obsession with imposing the house system on other wizarding schools, maybe it works in a american context due the immigration nature of the country, but as far as I have understood houses is a very British thing and probably would make no sense for other countries wizarding schools.

1) I'm miffed neither China nor India have magic schools of their own despite having two of the oldest mythologies in the world. No way all the wizards/muggleborns of these two countries combined will fit into the Mahouwhatever,

There is no reason they don't have any, but Rowling has made a cannon of 11 great wizarding schools, but China and India is probably like Africa in having many smaller wizarding schools. EDIT: I realize we didn't fill the list yet, they might get a great school in the future.

I know next to nothing about the history of China and India, but why would wizards respect the muggle idea of countries and borders? The lack of say, a big Italian wizard school could come from Italian wizards ignoring the unification of Italy and still operate like a bunch of tiny wizard enclaves. Which could hold true to any other place on earth. Or maybe they just opt for home school.

edit: wait the african schools use hand gestures? hahahahaha holy shit they're doing naruto ninja moves

That took a lot of air out of my headcanon that Potterverse is an alternate reality in His Dark Materials, where getting the wand represents the settling of the dust. I don't even like those books so much, but loved this potential cross over aspect.

But yes it as absolutely awesome. And their "letter" is also way superior, good luck to Vernon Dursley to stop Harry from sleeping long enough for him not to get the token.

It says wands are a European invention so Japan probably uses hand seals as well.

Basically what I'm saying is there's nothing that prevents Naruto from existing in Potterverse.

Actually Japanese Wizards prefer cherry wood wands:

Cherry
This very rare wand wood creates a wand of strange power, most highly prized by the wizarding students of the school of Mahoutokoro in Japan, where those who own cherry wands have special prestige.

The Brazilian and Portuguese people are highly catholic believers.I doubt anyone here would ever name it Castelobruxo, If I would guess by our culture, it would be named after a saint and that's being realistic.

Glorious Onii-sama would have eaten Voldemort and Grindelwald for breakfast

Wait, is it really new? Cause I'm pretty sure the Mahoutokoro thing already made me laugh my ass off a few months ago.

Just beacuse I wanted to here is the so far known size relations, biggest to smallest:
Uagadou
Durmstrang Beauxbatons
Hogwarts
Mahoutokoro

Then Castlebruxo, Ilvermorny, Koldovstoretz and the three other shcools go somewhere between Uagadou and Mahoutokoro who are said to be the largest and smallest.

Also Wizards do prefer home schooling:

The number of countries that have their own magical school is minuscule compared to those that do not. This is because the wizarding populations of most countries choose the option of home schooling. Occasionally, too, the magical community in a given country is tiny or far-flung and correspondence courses have been found a more cost-effective means of educating the young.

Wait, is it really new? Cause I'm pretty sure the Mahoutokoro thing already made me laugh my ass off a few months ago.

Mahoutokoro was name dropped in the wand lore section, but now is the first information of the school outside of the fact that they use wands and prefer cherry wood.
