Very exciting news, all-round - especially for Daredevil. Shame at the lack of Punisher, which could make for a fun separate series, but... you never know - Castler might just make an appearance,

Its clear after the past 5 years that this tier nonsense based on nebulous and personal or anecdotal standards is bullshit, if done well people will watch the content, just look at the Green Arrow show, he is a huge COMICBOOK character that is now one of the most popular shows on television The CW.

big distinction

I watched one episode of Arrow and it was the most vapid, poorly acted bollocks I've ever seen. I've heard it gets better though, should I have held out longer, GAF?

That's what I thought too, but I've pressed through and now I'm up to the 11th episode...

It's still bad.

As someone who's not a comic book guy, I'd prefer Netflix to keep making producing shows like OITNB or even House of Cards versus this. I just can't really get excited about more series based on comic book characters I don't have any particular allegiance to that are part of a universe I don't really care to explore.

I'm happy for you if you're a comic book fan, but I don't really know if it's worth getting excited about at the moment without even knowing who is attached to write/direct. Not to temper expectations, but...

Just dont watch it then....??? I think ABC is going to make these shows netflix will get to have the content since ABC doesnt have channels for this kinda stuff, They already have one show and ESPN, DIsney channel , and disney XD arent going to be channels for live action marvel knights properties. Netflix is a way to distribute it, I dont think they will be bottlenecked because ABC/Disney is doing these series and putting them on netflix....surprisingly instead of Hulu.

Full of cheese bad acting and side plots that u don't care about.

But u look past those and it's full of nothing but awesomeness. ESPECIALLY season 2 god damn. Season 1 was good, season 2 awesome.

It is a bit campy in ways but I think it's great. Probably the best live-action superhero show on TV at the moment.

Villains anyone? For Daredevil, should they go down the route of Kingpin and Bullseye again. I don't know if Marvel got back Elektra since she had a movie more recent than him, which should include The Hand and Typhoid Mary. Owl, Mister Fear, and Mr. Hyde are probably the top three if the others are off-limits. Maybe Purple Man since he often clashes with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

Pretty much everything you said. Kingpin/Bullseye/The Hand/Elektra are all a must for Daredevil. Mister Fear/The Owl/Typhoid Mary/Gladiator all should be around if the project is a success and it gets to multiple seasons.

John Goodman should be The Kingpin

I think Kingpin could be an overarcing villain, the ultimate force why the four come together. Kingpin controls the streets, having someone beyond him while still on street level, would diminish his grandeur.

Speaking of which, how strong is Luke Cage?
He is mid tier in strength. Stronger than Spider man, but weaker than the Thing, Hulk, etc.

Flashmob for Luke?

- THR: 'Lost,' 'Buffy' Alum to Write, Run Disney's Netflix Drama 'Daredevil'
Drew Goddard is in final negotiations to write and serve as showrunner on the new take on the Marvel Comics hero.

Disney and Netflix have found their man for Daredevil.

Lost and Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Drew Goddard is in final negotiations to write and serve as showrunner on the 13-episode series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Representatives for Goddard, Netflix and Marvel declined comment.

Netflix has committed to four 13-episode series based on Marvel Comics characters including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. Daredevil is the first series and it's expected to begin streaming in 2015 before all four shows lead in to a miniseries based on The Defenders.

Goddard's credits include ABC's Lost and Alias, as well as Buffy and its spinoff, Angel. On the big screen, his credits also include Brad Pitt zombie drama World War Z and he directed The Cabin in the Woods, where he reteamed with Joss Whedon, a Marvel staple with both The Avengers features and comics including X-Men and more.

I still have no idea how they are going to make an entire series around Jessica Jones. So weird.

That one should be pretty easy. It's a private investigator show. Out of all the shows, it's the one that has a formula that's historically worked on television before.

It's kind of funny to contemplate that the Marvel shows based on established comic book characters with decades worth of source material will arguably be operating with more creative freedom than the currently airing show that mainly stars original characters.

More and more info keeps coming out about the creatives behind these shows. This time who is in charge of Jessica Jones

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/melissa-rosenberg-oversee-marvels-jessica-655571

Melissa Rosenberg will write and produce a series based on Marvel's Jessica Drew character for Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Rosenberg will serve as a writer and executive producer.

Rosenberg, screenwriter for the Twilight films, was tapped years ago to develop AKA Jessica Jones, a drama revolving around the Marvel hero at ABC, but the series never materialized. Rosenberg most recently ran ABC's Red Widow.

Marvel seems to keep sticking to their guns with this stuff even if it takes a while. I wonder if that Hulk show will ever happen. Seems unlikely with Del Tero going with DC right now. Can't really blame her for Twilight. Their wasn't much to the source material.

I'd assume not. It was always my impression that the reason Marvel pursued a Hulk series in the first place was because they struck out twice with the movies. But now that Avengers has come out and everyone loves Whedon/Ruffalo's take, my guess is they're going to drop the TV idea and just focus their Hulk efforts back on the movies again.

Plus, I can't see any way to do a legitimately entertaining Hulk movie -- at least the kind that many expect -- on a TV budget.

So it looks like they really want to tap into the creatives that have worked with Whedon before. Except for Melissa Rosenberg, but that's only because she had previously been working on a Jessica Jones project.

No. Netflix still has to license the shows to air them. And that costs money. Money that could go to other projects. Which was my point. That I stated more than once.

Instead, money is going to a show from the creator of Red Widow. Fuck. That. Since they became a major player, Netflix has had a pretty keen eye on the projects that they have picked up (with their only legitimate misstep being Hemlock Grove, but even that is getting a creative retooling). Melissa Rosenberg is a hack and now she'll have a show on Netflix that is taking up assets that could've been used towards something more creatively fulfilling.

Doubt it. I bet the other two projects go to people with ABC Studios overalls.

But... why did they go with Rosenberg? Why.

This is cool, if Jessica Jones is doing the Alias story then it should be brilliant. Purple Man is suddenly going to become a scary villain to the public. :) Daredevil I used to follow as a kid but a long time ago, no idea how good his stories are at the moment. Heard there have been some good runs though.

I hope they make a Punisher TV show with Jim Caviezel, made a little mock up:

Could be amazing.

After watching Person of Interest, Caviezel could be an excellent Frank Castle. He'd be very much an older Rucka version.

Tom Jane would be great too, honestly.

Is there any official word that these shows will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

I'm pretty sure they will.

I had never even heard of Red Widow before ivy's multi-thread tirade against it.

I hope not. A Whedon influenced Punisher sounds horrible. Can't wait for those quips and snark!

Whedon doesn't write the entire Marvel line. Nor does he have the monopoly on quips and snarks.

He will put anyone he has ever casted couched in positions of power. Both of the rumored showrunners have been humbled by Whedon before. The dream is over brah.
