Buuu-urns... time to buy a GO.

Assuming you have a modern TV, buying the component cables (not the composite cables) will allow you to play games with your 2000. Though, unless your TV has a good scaler, or you buy one of those boxes that upscales the PSP video, games will be a tiny box in the centre of the screen.

Tom would have to answer for the European partner, and yes this game is a PSP-only PSN-only release.

I think Tom said on the Xseed forums that they were hoping to release it in Europe as well

Thanks, will give it a try.

To address a few of the questions on here:

- The 2000-model PSP is indeed capable of TV-out, as long as you have either an HDTV or a progressive scan (480p) non-HD TV. All you need to do is run to GameStop or Target or someplace (or order online) and pick up the component TV-out cables for the PSP. And yes, the game will show in a tiny box in the middle of your TV screen unless you have a good scaler... but even with just the normal "zoom" feature virtually every HDTV has, it'll scale to a reasonable size (similar to what you'd get if you were to play a letterboxed 4:3 version of a movie on a 16:9 TV). ...Oh, and the game's binaural 3D audio recordings? They sound just as good through your TV's headphone jack as they do through the PSP's. ;)

- We are indeed shooting for a European release. It hasn't been officially announced, and won't be until we're absolutely certain it's happening... but I'd say you European fans almost certainly have no need to fret. We will fight for you, I swear! :)

- Kusagari: Yes, PSN downloads work on every model of PSP, from the 1000 through the Go and the E1000.

The more I see of this game, the more I'm stunned it's coming out here. Good on SCEA for not being jerks anymore.

This and Hakukoi making it over should show people SCEA just don't give a shit anymore. Too bad Dagan-Ronpa is going to stay in Japan. :(

If they really don't give a shit, then why is making UMDs still so pricey? (I don't mind that Corpse Party is digital; just an idle question)

Actually, I don't think UMD production is entirely all that expensive. It's the whole having 15k unsold units in warehouses, and store shelves that is. Especially if US retailers are able to ship back unsold stock like they are for other things.

Ok I just went to watch this trailer and I don't know what's more disturbing. The trailer text, or what followed:

What the hell.

"Digital only is a real bummer.
I don't have the memory card space for games :-\

Those things are so expensive..."

Really? I dunno, I was able to buy a brand new 4 GB memory stick just a few weeks ago for $19.99, and a 1 GB stick -- the biggest you'll need for 99% of games on PSN, Corpse Party included -- is only like, $4.99 if you shop around. Memory sticks have really, really dropped in price lately -- in North America, anyway. Dunno where you're from, so maybe they're still expensive where you are?

Takao: Nail on the head!

Pancakes: Uh, yeah, that's definitely not quite the recommended video I would've expected! How... strange...

Normally wouldn't bump an old thread for this, but I mentioned an interview waaaay back toward the beginning of this thread, in which I'd be going into great detail on how the game played.

That interview was with Spencer of Siliconera, and the first part of it has finally been published:

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/10/10/how-corpse-party-got-an-invitation-for-localization/

Anyone still curious as to how the game plays, this should answer the majority of your questions -- and I can field any others you may have. :)

it's not really an old thread since the last post before yours was only three days ago

now if you had bumped a thread for 6+ months ago...

Awesome! Thanks for the bump it's interesting how you got the game to be considered for localization by making everyone else love it, haha.

Good stuff! This means I wont have to switch accounts when its released :)

wait, i've always wondered how this works... so i have a Euro PSP, if i put a US account on it, can i just switch back and forth between the two with each account having different games on it then?

I always thought that the games you bought on PSN were TIED not only to your account but to your PSP as well, meaning you'd have to get a different PSP for each account?

Switching accounts means all your previous games are deactivated and unplayable so it's kinda a pain to be switching accounts.

ok i get that, but then that means that all my previous games on the OTHER account are deactivated but not the ones i bought for this specific (US ) account in this case right?

Then if i log back in with my euro account afterwards i will have access to THAT content again right?

i get it's a pain but the alternative is to buy an extra PSP that you use for JUST that other account hmmm...

Yes, that's basically how it works, you don't have to worry about losing your games on the other account, you can play them again once you switch back over.
If you have a PS3 then it's easy, when you install a game from the PS3 onto your PSP it will switch your account over to the one the game was bought from.
I switch back and forth on the same PSP quite a bit.

Without a PS3 I think it is harder, you have to delete your old account on the PSP or something. I've never done it that way so I'm not sure.

If you have a Custom Firmware installed on your PSP you can use a program called PSN Manager which lets you easily switch between accounts. That's how I manage both my US and UK downloads on one PSP.

Naw, man, thank you! It's really great to see so much interest in such a niche game, and we're really grateful for the opportunity to talk about it.

Now you just need to convince RPGamer to cover it, and all will be right with the world! ;) Heheheheh...

Okay this definitely paints the picture of what this game is. It's unfortunate it took so long for some details, but the screens and description give a good synopsis and game play idea.

You guys kind make this sound like SAW the 16 bit RPG. You lose a little less each time you play! Bad ending get completely mauled and dismembered. Good ending die from a heart attack.

This game sounds like a very interesting concept. New horror game, 16 bit graphics, cheap digital price extremely mature and multiple choice/endings give the game an edge against the competition. Which right now the horror genre has so little of. Two things ultimately and potentially hold this game back from success.

1. Word of mouth

2. Keeping the player interested. You describe the game as an RPG without battles. What keeps people playing RPG's is the story and gameplay. If you have too much story the player will get bored and if all you have is the gameplay the player will most likely lose motivation to keep going.

Corpse party sounds like it has a lot of item collecting and character speech's. That's fine because of what kinda game it is, I just hope it have enough diversity of the type of storytelling. What I am trying to say is, I don't want it to feel like a huge text dump.

Slasher: I wouldn't worry too much about that. This game very definitely keeps things interesting right up through the end, introducing new characters, new whole wings of the school and fresh puzzles pretty regularly. Battles wouldn't suit this kind of game at all -- the whole reason it's scary is because you know you can't fight back. You know that if you get caught... you die! It's a lot like Clock Tower in that sense.

Besides, I'm sure just about everyone here has played an RPG at some point in their lives and thought, "man, I really want to know what happens next in the story, but these battles are annoying the hell out of me. I wish I could just turn them off!"

Well... if you've ever played a game and had that thought, then Corpse Party may be just what the doctor ordered. ;) Corpse Party is a story above all else, with gameplay perfectly suited toward advancing that story (and doing so in the most atmospheric way possible).

Infinite: Still not sure about when this game will hit PSN, but things are really starting to move now, so we should still be able to make our "fall 2011" release window with ample time to spare.

Well, that IS a screenshot from the game. I cannot deny, there is ample fanservice in Corpse Party. It's not too horribly blatant, and definitely isn't a major focus of the game or anything... but it's there!
